So many memories of this competition! I remember being 14 years old and begging to leave my brothers wedding to get home to watch this! Priorities were in line!
I miss Kathy Johnson and her commentary, really loved the duo of her and Bart, hands down my favourite gymnastics commentators alongside the whole BBC crew.
i will never understand why they kept Al Trautwig (who knows ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about gymnastics AT ALL to the point he always has to ask Tim Daggett about what’s going on around him) instead of keeping Bart Conner (who is an OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL CHAMPION) lol
13:00 the routine that will always be a great memory from my childhood. I love how Kathy Johnson says "Ah double twisting front!" and "beautiful landing!"
This is some beautiful gymnastics! It just struck me compared to today there seems to be a lot less of the artistry, the musical interpretation , grace, etc. in the routines today.
sk is 5 ft 5 !!and wonderful at that height... she used it to her advantage and quite frankly she is average height for a woman,a girl i knew in highschool was a gymnast at same height,,they come in all sizes!!!thanks svetlana!!
Ghimpu was injured and retired in 1995. I think Fabrichnova started being overshadowed by her teammates by 1995, and she was the alternate for the Olympics in 1996. I assume Malaya also didn't fare well after 1994, as she was not on the 1995 Worlds team. Also not sure about Irina Bulakhova. Perhaps she was usurped by Teslenko and Sheremeta, who weren't on the 95 Worlds team but at the Olympics.
Fabrichnova also grew quite a bit and had a severe elbow injury that she never fully recovered from. She was also rumored to be a bit “feisty” with the coaches. UKR had a bigger pool to choose from in 1996.
Awww! Lol scrunchies were the height of cool in the early-mid 90's. Match it to your outfit! If youre wearing your hair down, wear it on your wrist!😎😎💖🖤💖🖤
@@JennaLeigh THANK YOU for keeping it real. I was in middle school in the mid-90s and if you were a girl who didn't have a scrunchie in your hair or on your wrist, you were supremely uncool!
Jesus, Nunno, maybe ease up on the Shannon cloning angle? Literally every single American had Shannon's huge white scrunchy and agitated violin music. It's a great look--Shannon was always a class act--but not necessarily right for everyone.
It's not Nunno you're mad at, it's Peggy Liddick -- she's the choreographer (and hence the music chooser) and the "artistic" angle of the girls -- the scrunchies and leotards would have been her domain. She's likely also the reason none of Steve's gymnasts were molested by Nassar btw, so I won't hate on her despite my the fact that I, too, despise that screechy violin stuff.
The Goodwill games rules for gymnastics were that the there gymnast could only come from one gym (mainly because almost every team like Ukraine and Russia were training together)
That is completely untrue. The top finishers at the American Classic that year were offered invitations to the team. Dawes, Borden, Fontaine and Kellee Davis turned down the invitations because they were focusing on the national and world championships that year. It just happened that the other finishers 5-8 were from Nunno's gym, and Miller was offered spot as a national champion.
You can see the same problem with the BHS on beam that Shannon had on all the americans; I guess it was a result of training rather than an individual quirk of Shannons
Is it just me or does Mariana Webster look like a baby carbon copy of Shannon miller? I know they were trained by Nunno but that was eeerily similar lol. Also, love the tracking bar issues from the vhs tape lol. Only us 90s kids would understand
i dont know why the announcers always say that "falling off of the beam" only costs he athelete 1/2 of 1 point!! when it almost always costs them 4, or even 5 points from their score! something should be said, and done about this fairy tale!

2KX they are now doing commentary for ESPN of NCAA competitions.
So much better than Elfie and Tim- no negative Nancy crap.
Their faces get so close when talking-it’s almost awkward. 😂

kathy is so encouraging...love it
51:28 that round-off, lay-out + punch front walk-over on beam 😳🤯
This is some beautiful gymnastics! It just struck me compared to today there seems to be a lot less of the artistry, the musical interpretation , grace, etc. in the routines today.
Chuso still competing in 2023, hoping she makes it in 2024
I love Grosheva’s floor routine! Great music and expression.

Loved Kathy Johnson's commentary. Does anyone know why the likes of Malaya, Bulakhova, Fabrichnova and Ghimpu did not make the 1996 Olympic teams?

The 3 gymnast compete is a precursor to current future
Lol there was definitely a scrunchy PROBLEM on the US team in the early nineties

Shannon was jojo siwa before jojo siwa with those bows
Baby Khorkina😊
Just a gorgeous gymnast. Beautiful lines and elegance.
I was literally JUST coming here to make that comment!!!
Why were all these girls from Nunno's Gym? What about Dawes? Bordon? Phelps?
The Goodwill games rules for gymnastics were that the there gymnast could only come from one gym (mainly because almost every team like Ukraine and Russia were training together)
They or their coaches wouldn't let Nuno touch them.
Where did you hear about this rule?

its a lie see below
I always liked Soni Meduna. Always thought she got overlooked a bit.

cool
hey do u have 1994 womens volleyball from this goodwill games? looking for usa womens matches
Considering the channel is "USA Gymnastics", probably not.
