@ashleyc8373 Aside from the impact of the abuse she was going through, her coaches HORRIBLY misconstructed her routines. Her bars and floor had built in errors that were completely unnecessary, they could have totally structured her routines differently that wouldn't compromise the difficulty or necessary components. I'm sure I'm describing skills incorrectly, but her second low-to-high bar transition, the clear hip transition, plagued her and they totally could have changed that. And her third pass on floor was a constant problem that they could have worked around. Her 1.5 twist to her double back was constantly out of bounds or underrotated cause of the fear of going out of bounds. They totally failed her on her routine construction!!
Ridiculous how al was criticizing koko tsurumi for her floor music. And how elfie just joined in. She can chose whatever music she wants. And for Beth tweedle to be playing a pub song??? So biased.

I also found it annoying how they pick apart other countries mistakes but almost NEVER pick out mistakes from the US team. McKayla’s vault absolutely. Sui Lu on beam and floor? Magic. The Russians on floor- as long as you ignore the near fall from Victoria (really good save!) definitely. Beth Tweddle on bars was always a treat. Ponor on floor? Not hardly, great leaps and dance but absolutely atrocious tumbling form.

I find it so hilarious that over the course of the broadcast Tim, Al, and Elfi just loved to mention it when other gymnasts had issues with form but never once mentioned any form issues our girls had. They're a good bunch of gymnasts, but they all have issues with form as in bent knees, flat feet, not hitting their splits, a general lack of rhythm on beam and floor, and almost painfully bad form on UB. I wish they would take a leaf out the BBC's book they actually know how to commentate.

I’m so glad he and his ilk are gone- so many harshly abused and disrespected athletes throughout his dictatorship.
I agree about the abuse part but acting like Romania's routines (of course not from every single one of their gymnasts) on beam, floor and vault weren't difficult is just delusional. Not only that but they were innovative too, hence why there are so many skills named after Romanian athletes in the code of points.
@@britneyg5522 in the 1980’s, they were innovative for what could be done at that time, yes. By the early to mid 1990’s they were relying on simpler, more easily executed routines which worked for that system. When difficulty really started to matter as much as execution- they were left behind.

Romania has learned to adapt to both and it’s why they are now back as a team at the Olympics.
I love how the Chinese girls cheered for the Romanian girls all the way through that's so sweet what's sportsmanship we can all learn something from that
43:00 Sue Lu staring at the camera is so cute just like a wondering child. I love Komova, Mustafina, Yao, Weber era. Was much more exciting, more gymnasts to challenge each other and the artistry, difficulty was top notch.
The Olympic AA champion is rarely the "Queen of the Quad". In gymnastics, the person who is best on the day of the competition is the winner. Fair and square. That's just the nature of the sport in its current state. I don't think it's sad at all. Komova would have won the AA in London had she not taken 3 unnecessary steps on her vault, but she did. Gabby did not make mistakes that night and she was rewarded for it.
Sabrina competed on bars and beam in team finals while Gabby only competed on bars. Anna was the alternate, and although Alicia got hurt, the team was not changed as Anna was injured as well. Alicia went home for surgery, and Anna stepped out onto the floor and in the medal ceremony to fill out the team. The medal officially went to Alicia and USAG gave Anna a medal replica a few months later.
actually, i’ve heard Anna wasn’t injured but just in horrible luck with who got injured. Alicia competed all but UB, and Anna was only useful on UB. They needed to replace someone on the three events that Anna couldn’t help on. Anna still should have replaced Mykayla Maroney on UB as they already had 4 AA’ers.
Where is Al getting his info from on Oksana?! She's been competing since 1990 with the USSR and since when has she competed for Russia?! She competed for Uzbekistan
+byn63 Unified Team was only for the 92 Olympics though. And most people consider that still the Soviet Union because it was the whole Soviet team. At the beginning of 92 after the Soviet Union broke up, they all compete for their individual countries. Lysenko and Gutsu competed for Ukraine, Oksana competed for Uzbekistan until like around the time of Beijing( or a little before that) because of her son.
She lived in Germany but was a member of the Uzbekistan team cuz of residence. I think u had to live there for three years. Once she met it she represented Germany.
All this negativity, why can't anyone just enjoy the beautiful gymnastics- bottom line is all countries are biased to themselves it's just how it is, and with Koko's music, it's just that it would've been nice if she used Japanese music, just like there's going to be a lot of tango/Latin music in Rio this year
***** Sabrina Vega competed on both beam and bars. Gabby competed on bars only (even though NBC didn't show her routine or Sabrina's). Anna Li was a replacement gymnast. Even though she is on the floor, the USA never officially took Alicia Sacramone off the team. Anna Li accepted the medal on Alicia's behalf, so Alicia received a medal despite not competing.
+SheaNDamon1829 Alternates also received medals, but did not stand on the podium. Anna Li went in place of Sacramone, since she was not present. However starting in 2014, the alternates got to stand on the podium with the team. Desch was there in 2014, and Skinner was on the podium this year.
I think they should just get rid of that requirement in their floor routines that they have to stick all of their tumbling passes. Also, Tim & Elfie: NO ONE'S PERFECT.
Whoever choreographed these Russian floor routines needs to come back and work with Russia's gymnasts again, their floor routines have really gone down hill as of late in tumbling and choreography.
so so so true, even Aliya who is always lovely on floor didn't have the best choreography in Río, immediately after London it seemed the choreography had gotten worse. When Alexandrov left a lot of what made Russian gymnastics beautiful left too, really unfortunate.
I have to agree; choreography has really gone downhill in every country the last few years (barring a few exceptions) but Russia has collapsed in terms of artistry in the recent years, so unfortunate. I think they also changed their choreographer after 2012, which was a mistake imo bc 2012 makes pretty much the last time they had consistently good and innovative choreography in all of their athletes.
Watching this, it's rich coming from nbc commentators talking about form on uneven bars or artistry on beam and floor when nearly all of the US team heavily lacks in all those areas, what helped them was difficulty and consistency to be honest their execution isn't bad by any means but nothing to rave about either, too many flexed feet and bent knees and leg splits to count.
@@angelamiller3911it's because they started valuing who can hit more than who can hit while still having an artistic or clean routine. I feel like it started going downhill more when Marta made gymnasts take out beam mounts.
I usually don't do the underscored/overscored thing, but it's kind of ridiculous Vika's bars scored .2 higher than Gabby's since her start value is .5 higher, and her execution miles better than most in the world (excluding Aliya and maybe Jinnan);
The 'perfect 10' system really wasn't that much easier to understand. Sure a 10 was always the 'perfect' score, but what made a 'good' score changed all the time! In 1988 all the top gymnasts were getting 10s and a 9.2 was pretty much a disaster; by 2004 a 9.2 was a decent score and a 10 was totally impossible.
The point is that they should use any song that appeals to them not where they're from. I find it cool that someone from Japan recognizes European culture.
It shocked me that they took Sabrina Vega over Shawn Johnson for the World team... almost as much as it shocked me that the precise moment Tim decides to talk about how the US has made no mistakes, they show Vega's dismount from beam with awful form.
+mchur001 Ok, traveling alternate then. My point being, it's always nice to have veterans with you on a world stage, especially after what happened to Alicia.
But what was the point of taking Shawn Johnson? For UB? They took Anna Li for that. Johnson's BB was a mess. She fell on it at Classic and then she fell twice at Pan Ams. She didn't belong anywhere near that World Team.
+mchur001 Look, I don't know why you feel like you have to put down someone else's opinion. They took Anna Li. This happened 4 years ago. And sure Anna Li can do bars, but that's all she can do. Obviously they wanted to give her the experience of going, but had no intention of ever using her. Shawn had placed 4th on beam at Nationals, the last competition before both teams were selected. And she did win the Silver on UB at the PanAms. I'm just stating that I'm surprised they didn't take her as the first alternate. That's it. My opinion. Sheesh!!
The fact they didn't even show Gabby's event... yikes. They clearly didn't care about her, they were either using her as a Token Gymnast or to showcase her background and family situation for an inspirational moment. I'm so glad both Vika and Gabby show NBC their golden girl was not unbeatable.
it's pronounced Aliya Mustafina and she was the 2010 World All Around Champion as well as won gold with the team, silver on vault, bars, and floor in those World Championships. She was a dominant force at that time but torn her ACL in 2011 Europeans which caused her to miss these World Championships even though she has begged her coach to put her on this team. As time went by she healed in time for the Olympics in 2012 and came away with a silver in team final, gold on uneven bars, bronze in All Around as well as floor. She also went to the Olympics in 2016 and came away with gold in Uneven bars, bronze in All Around and silver in team final
AM I DREAMING?? Tim and Elfie complain about the "lack of artistry" in Beth's floor routine, and the fact there is a great deduction for this, but saying nothing about Americans who almost turn FX into a tumbling competition?
Just for anyone who doesn’t know, especially since we had to hear it mispronounced throughout this video, Huang Qiushuang’s name is pronounced “chyo shuang,” and not, “kwi shuang,” 😅 I just feel like she deserves the justice of her name being said correctly 😂
@@saragrant9749 “Q Q yuan” for poor Qiu Qiyuan 😪 like idk how busy these commentators are, but the least they could do is study the names properly before the competition 😅
@@ItsSeanziehave you ever- just once- actually thought about the language differences between various countries, how certain letters and syllables are pronounced? There are probably about 500,000 different ways to pronounce people’s names based on what language the individual claims as their primary. These athletes are quite used to others mispronouncing their names, understanding that language changes pronunciation. Think about that instead of just complaining unnecessarily.
@@saragrant9749 Ok weirdo? First off, I was agreeing with your reply to my initial comment. Secondly, you’re the one complaining on my thread? I simply gave the correct pronunciation for her name with my initial comment. The only person complaining here (and you did A LOT of typing, ma’am) is you.
@@saragrant9749 Additionally, I mentioned Qiu Qiyuan because she DID complain about her name being butchered left and right. Instead of defending your ignorance, maybe learn how to say people’s names? Weirdo.
Catalina Ponor's beam routine had a round off to back layout and an Onodi, back handspring, back layout... Are they allowed to have two of the same elements in one routine? Or did it get deducted?
I think Jordyn is a pretty good all arounder, but I think she should have gotten silver because of her huge form break on bars. It's sad how the AA Olympic champion of this quad is not the Queen of the Quad. She dominated for one night.
That’s what the Olympics is about… and the world championships. Whoever wins that night is the queen or king of their sport. As much as many would have preferred to see Victoria win, she had less start value on vault and floor, many little bobbles on beam and a floor absolutely full of mistakes. That one error on bars for Jordyn was countered by a 7 tenth advantage on vault, 3 tenth advantage on floor and a substantially cleaner floor routine with just the one step out of bounds being a reasonably size able deduction. She won because she just plain made LESS mistakes and had more start value in key places.
Always be nice FullHD display sports content for the wonderful contrast between video and audio. NF101 Thanks for uploading these great videos. I would also come upstairs content rhythmic gymnastics and synchronized swimming, sports great visual beauty. I hope you are very aware of what happens during the Olympics Games in London. Thank you.
They made her apologize for not winning a medal? Seriously? She made the OLYMPIC TEAM, they should be proud of her. If they wanted a medal so badly, one of the people shaming her should have went out and competed and saw how hard it was.
I know that the Romanians don't have that much difficulty, but their form on bars is so great! I think they are very good at bars actually. I mean, I'm no expert, but I don't think that they are terrible at it
You missed the point with what they were saying. They thought the Japanese girls would play something from their homeland since this competition took place at home in Tokyo.
Yes she could have done that and it would have been a great thing to do if she did do that but still, its her choice what floor music she chooses and I thought her music and her routine were beautiful.
I can’t wait to see team USA🇺🇸at the swimming and gymnastics and synchronized swimming at the 2024 summer Olympic Games in Paris France(July 26th-August 11th)2024
Yeah that's true but Sarah Finnegan uses a very Spanish-y song in her routine and the commentator (I think its the same one it sounded like him) was gushing about how he loved the music. Bias.
for me the russians fell a little flat on floor. they have great music and artistry but no personality or expression in their faces. the first girl was good but komova and afanaseva were so solemn and didn't even look like they wanted to be there!
Hey just a question. How many events are there before the olympics and how do you know the order. I would like to watch the events leading up to London. Thanks.
I hate to be the one to say it but Oksana Chusovitina has always been over scored on vault ridiculously. Did that vault right there really deserve over a 9.0 in execution? Loss of form on first flight phrase and serious loss of form on second flight phrase and lands with foot out of bounds. Don't get me wrong, she is simply amazing just to be competing against 16 year olds as a 36 year old, but she is ridiculously over scored.
Gotta love Al's commentary. "London, England and that is where Elizabeth Twiddle is from..." Firstly, her name is pronounced Tweddle and secondly she is from Cheshire which is, in fact, nowhere near London.
That's not the same thing at all. One thing is floor music of ONE Japanese gymnast whereas the other thing is a NATIONAL ANTHEM being played. The two don't have anything in common apart from being music.
Yes, I am aware of the fact that America has a large Jewish population and that America is a "melting pot" of cultures and whatnot but that doesn't mean that someone who is Japanese is always going to use a Japanese song in their routine. Sacramone, Pezsek and Sloan all used spanishy/tango style music in their floor routines and neither of them were Spanish. The commentator was just being stupid about the Japanese gymnast.
And also, you would not call Gabby "Queen of the Quad" at the London Olympics because, fine, she won the AA, but she pretty much screwed everything up in all her other finals.
Elizabeth Tweddle was so ahead of her time with her connections on bars. Freaking love her

Anna still should have replaced Mykayla Maroney on UB as they already had 4 AA’ers.
yup, Im totally watching this AFTER the 2012 olympics
Where is Al getting his info from on Oksana?! She's been competing since 1990 with the USSR and since when has she competed for Russia?! She competed for Uzbekistan
+AfanasyevaFan Oksana Chutsovitna actually competed for the Unified Team first and then moved to Germany when he son got sick.
Thank you!
She lived in Germany but was a member of the Uzbekistan team cuz of residence. I think u had to live there for three years. Once she met it she represented Germany.
"Yao Jinnan got a 15.2, that will not help china out at all" wtf Al Trautwig
HAH! LOL. USA isn't nearly as good on bars.
But, if you saw Tim's double layouts, you'd cry. Look up "Tim Dagget Floor 1984"
Kameron Coleman Yao got 15.2 on beam not bars
All this negativity, why can't anyone just enjoy the beautiful gymnastics- bottom line is all countries are biased to themselves it's just how it is, and with Koko's music, it's just that it would've been nice if she used Japanese music, just like there's going to be a lot of tango/Latin music in Rio this year
Amen.
I found that I like Tsurumi’s choreography more and more...it’s so simple yet so complicated as well and it really shows off her natural elegance.
+SheaNDamon1829
Alternates also received medals, but did not stand on the podium. Anna Li went in place of Sacramone, since she was not present. However starting in 2014, the alternates got to stand on the podium with the team. Desch was there in 2014, and Skinner was on the podium this year.
Whoever fixed up Jordyn‘s number after her bar routine, I love you, it bothered me so much😂
So whoever was in charge of broadcasting this meet decided leaving Gabbby Douglas' bar routine out was a good idea?? Well shame on them.
i luv aly raiman she has so much focus and drive
32:46 most awkward hug ever
I think they should've put in Anna Li for the Uneven Bars with Jordyn and Gabby... Sabrina Vega was wonderful on beam though! :)
They wanted Alicia to get that tenth medal and if Anna had competed then Alicia wouldn't have gotten it from what I understood of it all.
Heather Wicker Yes, but FIG let Anna Li and Alicia Sacramone get their own gold medals which was very considerate of them to do so :)
Anna Li didn't feel right and gave it back to Alicia then FIG got her another medal.
Very nice of them :)
1:21:24 freaking creepy seeing those two monsters side by side.
Gotta watch it again! ^ ^ So proud of this young team!! They deserved the GOLD!
I adore Sui Lu!
kras118 her beam is just exquisite!! 😍♥️
I love Tim’s commentary
Watch Komova's face at 1:23:30!
lol what was that
Harriet Tubman envy 😂
I think they should just get rid of that requirement in their floor routines that they have to stick all of their tumbling passes. Also, Tim & Elfie: NO ONE'S PERFECT.
Wow 😲😲😲😲 sui lu's beam routine is just perfect
Chinese were so underscored on beam how did Sabrina Vega score higher?
It was very rude to criticize Koko tsarumi. She is a fabulous gymnast but at the same time I understand where Elfi is going with this
Whoever choreographed these Russian floor routines needs to come back and work with Russia's gymnasts again, their floor routines have really gone down hill as of late in tumbling and choreography.
Honestly! In rio, team finals, Seda's routine was a mess and Aliya's wasn't the best, and it's just not working rn.
so so so true, even Aliya who is always lovely on floor didn't have the best choreography in Río, immediately after London it seemed the choreography had gotten worse.
@27:20 one of the most beautiful full double back dismounts
Watching this, it's rich coming from nbc commentators talking about form on uneven bars or artistry on beam and floor when nearly all of the US team heavily lacks in all those areas, what helped them was difficulty and consistency to be honest their execution isn't bad by any means but nothing to rave about either, too many flexed feet and bent knees and leg splits to count.
Agreed American teams are "built" for strength Not grace, sadly.
@@angelamiller3911it's because they started valuing who can hit more than who can hit while still having an artistic or clean routine. I feel like it started going downhill more when Marta made gymnasts take out beam mounts.
I usually don't do the underscored/overscored thing, but it's kind of ridiculous Vika's bars scored .2 higher than Gabby's since her start value is .5 higher, and her execution miles better than most in the world (excluding Aliya and maybe Jinnan);
I spy West Side Story floor music at 45:55 haha! :P
It shocked me that they took Sabrina Vega over Shawn Johnson for the World team... almost as much as it shocked me that the precise moment Tim decides to talk about how the US has made no mistakes, they show Vega's dismount from beam with awful form.
thetigerbeat007 Yeah, Shawn should have at least been an alternate, too bad for her!
+ahluvdrums
Shawn Johnson was an alternate. She was the non-traveling alternate.
That's it. My opinion. Sheesh!!
1:05:00 is what WAG IS ALL ABOUT MY HEART
Thank you so much for uploading! Loved it!
Maroney was cute! We’re ready to go...we’re good
The fact they didn't even show Gabby's event... yikes.
They clearly didn't care about her, they were either using her as a Token Gymnast or to showcase her background and family situation for an inspirational moment. I'm so glad both Vika and Gabby show NBC their golden girl was not unbeatable.
And she went on to be the first black Olympic champion a few months later and first us to won both AA and team @ same Olympics
It would be great if you made this available on mobile
Thanks a lot! Sad little Dementieva isn't on the team though, she is so pretty and I love her gymnastics.
thank you for posting!
Who’s alaina mustafina?
it's pronounced Aliya Mustafina and she was the 2010 World All Around Champion as well as won gold with the team, silver on vault, bars, and floor in those World Championships.
McKayla was the 2nd in the AA at us nationals in 2011
Just for anyone who doesn’t know, especially since we had to hear it mispronounced throughout this video, Huang Qiushuang’s name is pronounced “chyo shuang,” and not, “kwi shuang,” 😅
I just feel like she deserves the justice of her name being said correctly 😂
Listen to the BBC commentary, you’ll hear some absolutely god awful pronunciation. Rebecca Andrade is a classic example of that.
Or did it get deducted?
the onodi was actually connected to a back handspring and then a back pike. but i agree with you, her back pike looks a lot like a layout.
Adam Travis I would say her layout looks like a back pike ahah
Does anyone else think Aly was underscored on vault I only got 7 tenths off
I think Jordyn is a pretty good all arounder, but I think she should have gotten silver because of her huge form break on bars.
Had Raisman performed beam like she did her in the AA in London, she'd had the Bronze easily.
In the end I’m selfishly glad she didn’t get that AA medal, as it pushed her to make the comeback she did… and what a return it ended up being!
What is the song called that Jordyn did her floor routine to?
Always be nice FullHD display sports content for the wonderful contrast between video and audio. NF101 Thanks for uploading these great videos. I would also come upstairs content rhythmic gymnastics and synchronized swimming, sports great visual beauty.
I hope you are very aware of what happens during the Olympics Games in London.
Thank you.
They made her apologize for not winning a medal? Seriously? She made the OLYMPIC TEAM, they should be proud of her. If they wanted a medal so badly, one of the people shaming her should have went out and competed and saw how hard it was.
I can’t wait to see team USA🇺🇸at the swimming and gymnastics and synchronized swimming at the 2024 summer Olympics Games in Paris France 🇫🇷
Qiushuang Huang definitely has the ability to knock it out of the park but it’s what you do with it that matters
Yep. Many an athlete has been like that too unfortunately.
beth tweddle makes floor look effortless
will you upload the olympics as well? :)
You were sooooooo right!!! :)
I can’t wait to see team USA🇺🇸at the swimming and gymnastics and synchronized swimming at the 2024 summer Olympic Games in Paris France(July 26th-August 11th)2024
Elizabeth Tweddle on bars at 58 is amazing.
@@bluepanther1013 I was
Yeah that's true but Sarah Finnegan uses a very Spanish-y song in her routine and the commentator (I think its the same one it sounded like him) was gushing about how he loved the music. Bias.
Loved Gabby’s bar routine. It was amaz….oh wait!🤨🤦🏻♀️
Omg Komova's face at 1:23:31 😱😱😅😂😂
for me the russians fell a little flat on floor. they have great music and artistry but no personality or expression in their faces. the first girl was good but komova and afanaseva were so solemn and didn't even look like they wanted to be there!
Hey just a question. How many events are there before the olympics and how do you know the order. I would like to watch the events leading up to London. Thanks.
"we're good." 💜
I hate to be the one to say it but Oksana Chusovitina has always been over scored on vault ridiculously.
"London, England and that is where Elizabeth Twiddle is from..." Firstly, her name is pronounced Tweddle and secondly she is from Cheshire which is, in fact, nowhere near London.
who is on the russian OG team, is it announced yet? i guess mustafina and komova are two obvious ones... dementieva? afanaseva? grishina?
His speech about Chusovitina is so cringe with wrong facts about her and the mispronunciation of her kids name. Insert eye roll!
