Just for one example the 85 womens world AA title was shared by not one but two gymnasts who did not qualify and were put in, yanking teammates who also could have won (one of them the great Olga Mostapenova, the girl who probably wins the 84 Olympic AA without the boycott, but even she got yanked for her younger teammates). Another example, is Alexandra Marinescu was yanked twice for Simona Amanar, and Amanar went onto medal in the AA both times after technically not qualifying. @@carolebrown2621 oh I’m well aware it used to happen all the time. It is one of the most blatant examples of how toxic the sport was- and honestly in many ways still is. Gymnasts were treated like propaganda tools, like property instead of human beings. Politics still plays a huge role in who gets chosen for teams vs who doesn’t in far too many instances. Take Kaylia Neymour for example- bullied by the French delegation to the point she decided to represent Algeria instead… a decision that took the French GOVERNMENT stepping in and pushing for in order to make it happen! I’m just eternally grateful my father absolutely forbade me from becoming a gymnast. He didn’t like the environment of the sport. Instead he encouraged me to pursue track and field, a sport that is all inclusive. I was a thrower for nearly a decade and had the best time, learning many life skills and making a multitude of friends - something I undoubtedly wouldn’t have experienced in gymnastics.

    Miller should have had a ten on vault. Gutsu's feet were apart the entire time. According to these judges that only equals .25 of a deduction. The real cheating happened on bars. Miller got 3, 9.9's including one from Soviet judge, Nellie Kim while she gave Bogi and Gustu both tens. She was blatantly cheating. The judges from Great Britain and Hungary also gave Miller a 9.9. There was clearly some swapping scores going on. They were making sure Miller didn't lose to Gutsu. Nellie Kim was also trying to make sure Lysenko didn't keep Boginskaya from the podium by low balling Lysenko.

      @saragrant9749 Год назад

      @@LETMEINGUYS back in that time the Soviet Union had very strict control over the judging of international gymnastics competitions, particularly at the world and Olympic level. They decided who got gold medals- and who didn’t (even within their own team, just ask Olga Korbut). Errors- VISIBLE ONES- were often overlooked purposely because that athlete was their chosen one. Some medals obviously were won on merit, but others were definitely not. There are plenty of people who will tell you this isn’t true, but many judges from that time have fully ADMITTED it was the case. It’s why I’m honestly surprised (happily so) how Nadia was able to score her seven perfect tens, given she was Romanian and not Soviet. Just take a look at what happened to Vera Kaslaska (sorry if I misspelled that). She was from Yugoslavia, which the Soviets were trying to take over. Her floor gold should NEVER have been shared with the Soviet, but it was because the judges were instructed to make sure she got a gold- even though her routine was far inferior.
      It’s much like the East Germans in the 1970’s and 1980’s with doping. Everyone knew that they were loaded up on steroids, but had no way to take action as there was no system in place to identify it and stop it. Once drug testing became a thing they were, in many cases caught and stripped of medals. It’s the same thing here. If you watch competitions after the 1992 games, the judges were being heavily scrutinized for bias. Nellie Kim was actually suspended for quite a period of time for biased judging. Today the judges are still kept under close watch, to ensure equal treatment.

    Gutsu should never have been allowed to compete in the AA because she fell off the beam and was not the top two of her team to qualify. They sacrificed little Rosa to give her the chance to win gold for them. I still think it’s unfair that they were allowed to do that. Rules are rules and she fucked up!

      @@ojk46 i never said it was against the rules but it is wrong if she didn’t earn that spot like rosa did. Rosa earned that spot but was told to step down for Gutsu. I find it morally wrong. She made a mistake which meant she didn’t qualify to be in the individual round, therefore should have sucked it up and let Rosa compete. That is what i meant.

      @@LETMEINGUYS I’d head about that, yes. if that’s true then in a way… ok good. Money can’t take the place of a stolen opportunity or that medal. I also suspect that was to assuage folk who cried foul upon hearing about the lie. As far as I’m concerned it should have resulted in a rule stating that only qualified athletes can compete in the all around and individual finals. If an injury occurs- tough, you have only one in competition, not two. It would eliminate blasphemy like this.
      The part that disgusts me with Tatiana herself is she tried- and still tries in interviews- to say “she understood Rosa’s sorrow and anger.” That’s the behavior of a spoiled brat, and was completely disgraceful. If she’d said “I couldn’t imagine her pain, but it was the coaches decision” I would feel differently. To even try to say she did understand was selfish in the extreme. I wouldn’t blame Rosa if she never spoke to Gutsu again ever- which I don’t believe she has. I know I wouldn’t.

      Russians make “platinum” medals or special golds for athletes, especially figure skaters, they think should have won. Ask slutskaya and plushenko. Since when do Russians get to declare discussion over? Gutsu shouldn’t have even competed in the final. Her preliminary scores were too low, so the team faked an injury to another team member to get her spot in the final. Shady.

If she were anyone else, even a famous Soviet given the disdain for them, nobody would bat an eye at a 9.8 or worse so I don't see what was wrong about Kim's score honestly, LOL! 3 judges giving it a 10 is the only joke. An American doing the same vault probably gets a 9.7 or something.
