      I totally agree. Was about to correct your comment “Nunno’s couching” but on second thought, he basically acts like an irate dad watching football on the couch and yelling at the tv. That’s Steve’s style of coaching. Bitch and gripe at the tv while you’re sitting in the couch.

    Dominique was awesome but I wish her training would have incorporated ballet to help her lines and toe point. Form deductions is what caused her to not have high scores.

    • @imoviegirl
      @imoviegirl 3 года назад +4

      Part of the problem with the toes is her muscular structure (no hate Domi, LOVE YOU!) Her legs are slightly bowed which pulls the feet muscles in different directions. I am a dance instructor and one of my students had that very problem. It can be corrected some with stretching and training the muscles to go in a different direction, but this can inhibit muscle strength and power in the legs. This is why we see extremely muscular gymnasts like Simone Biles not pointing their toes. The body can often go one of two ways: powerful or graceful. That is why power AND grace are such a rare beauty! Not that Dawes doesn't have grace, she does! It's just that her muscle/bone structure wouldn't let her have the same lines as others. :)

    Funny I just watched Dawes when she finally won US nationals and I was thinking for some reason how you never see her parents like most of the other girls then this came on and there's her Mom. Seems sort of weird to hear her parents don't get really involved. Anyway, I always adored Dawes.

    • @2134knees
      @2134knees 3 года назад +3

      I for one kind of get it. I was a former gymnast and dancer. And if I had a bad day at the gym or in the studio, my parents would ask if I wanted to talk about it. Whereas, with other sports (like basketball, baseball, etc) my parents would stay and watch (there wasn't a separate viewing room). My siblings both played soccer, baseball, and basketball and swimming. I personally liked not having my parents in the Gym and Dance studio room with me (I liked it was me and my coach). Also, the Dawes family lived a ways away from the Gym so Dominique eventually moved in with Kelly's family.

      What are you talking about? Kerri was the last up to go in Atlanta and needed a 9.4 average. After falling on her first vault she had to go again on a broken leg to win the gold for USA. she may not have landed all the way on 1 leg but as soon as she hit the ground she picked the broken leg up and basically collapsed after soluting.

    • @debbieb5861

      @@GwindorC Incorrect. After Dominique Moceanu fell on both vaults, the US team needed Kerri's vault or they would have lost to the Russians. Kerri fell on her 1st vault, the score was too low to clinch the gold and landed her 2nd vault, hense clinching the gold for the team. She recently said that 'finally, all eyes were on me'. You can Google it, wikipedia for Kerri Strug or any references will confirm it. I usually check my facts before commenting and that might not be a bad idea for you as well. Have a nice day!

    • @SchlichteToven
      @SchlichteToven 5 лет назад

      @@debbieb5861 The beginning of your comment is an arrogant, one-word "incorrect." The end of your comment is a passive-aggressive "Have a nice day!" That is the most obnoxious combination.
      In any event, it has been established that the Americans would have beat the Russians even without Kerri Strug's second vault, since they drop the lowest vault score of each team. They didn't know that until afterward, though, because the final Russian gymnast hadn't completed her floor routine yet (at which she didn't score well). It says it right on Kerri Strug's Wikipedia page, and it's also in Dominique Moceanu's autobiography, "Off Balance." It also says it here in a 1996 issue of Sports Illustrated: "The U.S. would have won the gold without Strug's last vault, but neither she nor her teammates knew that at the time."
      www.si.com/vault/1996/07/24/216315/us-women-gymnastics-gold-1996-olympics-atlanta-kerri-strug
      Everyone wanted it to be the heroic, injured vault that saved the day, and it could have been, but ultimately the Americans would have won without it.

    • @mchur001
      @mchur001 8 лет назад +4

      +James R But Wendy won a bronze medal as part of the US team in Barcelona. Brandy Johnson was a National Champion and won a silver on VT at the 1989 Worlds, which was unheard of at that time when the Soviets and Romanians dominated everything. The US wouldn't win another medal on vault for 17 years. Not to mention that the US team (Brandy Johnson was a key member) were the winners of team bronze in Seoul, but lost it due to a technical rule enforced by Ellen Berger from East Germany. In 1988, Brandy Johnson actually had the 2nd best vault score in vaulting finals, but that was before the new life rule, so she finished 5th. Brandy also made the AA finals at the Olympics. Wendy Bruce, while an AA finalist at the 1989 Worlds, did not make any finals in Barcelona. If you are comparing the accolades of both Bruce and Johnson, Brandy comes out on top.

    Kerri's problem is that she gives up too easily and she was always injured. She could've fought to stay on the beam @13:25. I think the only reason she did a 2nd vault in 1996 was because she wanted to beat Moceanu and stop being in the shadows like she was with Miller and Zmeskal.

    Why does it seem like the judges are generous with shannon? I'm not saying she isnt good but her tumbling was short on floor simple turns she was all over then she generously rewarded.Then the beam was shaky on all fronts yet big scores.

    • @catchthisbuck
      @catchthisbuck 9 лет назад +6

      So true Shannon was damn good this night but Dominique was just as good if not better but since she was the world champ at the time they gave her big scores that whole night, they did that a lot for her through her career.

    • @andrewb1147
      @andrewb1147 9 лет назад +2

      Im not gonna say that she wasnt deserving of some of the praise but her weakest event was always floor and her bars was usually basic but big scores as usual.Also as for ms dawes her difficulty was always up there and her gymnastics was exciting because she took risk which was nice but her weakness strange enough was vault but then again her degree of difficulty was always up there its the execution.Her floor and beam were the best for me personally.

    • @joannakroyd
      @joannakroyd 9 лет назад +8

      As much as they should "not"..judges award for body lines, which of course are beyong the gymnasts control. Dominique, in my opinion, was a better gymnast (most of the time) yet she us slightly bo-legged which makes her look not quite as clean. Even in today's gymnastics its the same. Many do not like Biles (even though she indisputably the best in the world...if not ever) yet being very muscular many do not like her "line". Its unfair and most judges will never admit to it..

    • @andrewb1147
      @andrewb1147 9 лет назад +2

      I agree wit what you said, but since 2000 i have not looked at gymnastics anymore but Biles caught my eyes last year and I had to come back to look at her vids she is really good but sadly you are right the lines and size.What people need to get is that these girls have more difficulty plus must do 4 passes now when on floor it is obvious they would be bigger than the previous girls.Sigh i really do miss the old days

      No wonder Americans never understand why they don't always win.

    It’s interesting to compare Steve Numno to Kelly Hill in terms of their coaching style. Steve got lucky with Shannon Miller, as she was already doing European style training and she was so determined to be perfect and to get it right. Meanwhile Kelly has had multiple elites who have had Olympic and world success, just as recently as Dicello 2021 world all around bronze medal.

Unless you were a fucking golden child back then u were screwed!!! It's suppose to be about the sport the technique of the sport but it never is it's all about racism & politics!! I haven't the slightest why anyone would want to dedicate there entire life to something they're clearly not going to have any fairness in unless they have blonde hair and blue eyes.
