I like your theory of buying something for a dollar, taking a chance and if you can’t resell it for a lot more, you can still sell it at the flea market for a dollar. Same here.
True...I was at the Sal. Army store yesterday...and it did feel like Christmas...Santa and snowmen crowded three shelves! Your store makes the ones here look like they are going out of business...with the sparse shelves...except for clear glass...huge quantities of the stuff, and of course, mugs! I picked up eight CDs of artists of the 1950s-early 60s and a cute toy space ship...not old, but neat! Included were a pair of astronauts, taking their "One small step for A man, one giant leap for mankind". Yes...that Subway history book would have found a home in my library of historical subjects! That tool and equipment section is something else! Quite a store...I'd be visiting at least a couple times a week!! Those 2024 years are showing on the Lord! As a closing note, I ran into Buzz's RUclips channel, he was beginning restoration on a late 30s table radio, in pretty sad shape. He got the chassis fixed, the wood cabinet will be a challenge...I know, as I did my share of cabinet restoration and refinishing! He has an interesting way in presenting his work.
Buzz has a great channel and I love his editing! Very talented too! Our other thrift stores probably look more like your thrifts. I went to Goodwill a little over a week ago, just to look at jeans, and they have a whole aisle of used plastic water bottles and travel mugs. If they would just recycle them, they could add a third aisle of clear glass! Haha. Hope that you are having a nice weekend, Larry!

Yep...I wouldn't want to slurp out of one of those used travel mugs...who knows what mug was drinking out of it...ugh! I have seen some with sticky residue on them! Keeping in touch with Buzz.
I wish our Habitat Restore had all that kind of stuff !

Our habitat only had furniture and then tools and things to get for refinishing and refurbishing your home

Our rental sold 2 years ago so we had to downsize and move. I got rid of over 1,000 books. I donated them to a local who is a book reseller. Nice books, not just pulp. People said, "oh, you could make so much reselling". But the fact is, I wasn't doing it, and I needed to downsize. I'm glad that a local could benefit from it.
You´ve been in a very well organized and clean Habitat thrift store, highly appreciated. The weather has finally cleared here! Thankfully! Looking forward to the weekend flea markets, that’s for sure. I did go to another thrift store as well a few days ago, but I don’t think you all want to see a whole aisle of used water bottles & empty food containers with $2.99 price tags. I enjoyed going on this trip with you. I really liked that box of old doll parts. I think that stuff is neat. I also like your books. I used to love to read, but now I can't read much at a time because it's really gotten hard for me to retain what I've read. I don't like it. I used to be able to read a book in one or two days. Most bottle pits are actually old privies, also called outhouses. It was an easy place to dispose of old bottles and other household items that could not be burned. I have a Restore near me and I always end up driving by and forgetting to stop and see what they have. My favorite item that you either looked at or bought was that Baby Jesus Hummel. I would love to have a complete Hummel nativity set in the scale of your Jesus. Thanks for sharing and reminding me to go visit my local Restore soon.

In my Habitat Restore most non-furniture (other than contractor supplies) is priced very high but furniture is very,very reasonably priced. They have no books and no dollar section.

Hi Renee, there are 3 Goodwill stores nearby. The merchandise varies widely. Wings thrift shop helps battered women, and there are others. I've gotten beautiful
items at each store. Near O'Hare airport. Tina, Al's wife

Habitat is such an excellent charity. The store we have here is great. I have bought many of my power tools there. "Trickster" - I had forgotten him from the Lion King, but I believe there is a "Trickster" character in some Native American traditions. That was some nice furniture there though the prices seemed a little bit high - but I hear maybe brown furniture is coming back? Hope you have a great weekend & do well with the Hummel. I had thought Habitat used to do a percentage off on furniture after a certain amount of time, they must not do that anymore. Which could be a good thing because low prices on some of the antique furniture…. I’d be having to find a place to put it! Haha I’ve only seen the Disney cartoon Lion King, so wasn’t familiar with the Trickster (unless my memory has gotten really bad & they were in the cartoon). I should go there once a week, if only to look at the books better! Did you get to the estate sale today or is that tomorrow?
@@PaperandMoose Yep, If their inventory turns over it looks like a great place to be a regular. Today is the only dry day of my 3-day weekend & the estate sales looked mediocre, so I took a long walk with the dog. Also worked on a couple of old stained glass windows that I want to hang (on the wood frames - I don't know anything about stained glass). I have been looking for an old blanket chest for the end of the bed and your video reminded me I should hit the Re-Store tomorrow. The FM will be empty - but maybe an estate sale or two just to get out. The dog and I have been left alone for the weekend and we are "batching'" it. So tonight we are going to watch TV in our boxers and drink beer. Well, I don't drink anymore but, for a mostly-chihuahua, Dusty can put 'em away. And he always makes me watch Rin Tin Tin.

I love that you found a baby Jesus and a Hummel one at that. I endlessly see nativities without Jesus so I figure some people in the world collect all the baby Jesus figurines and dump the rest. Is the Hummel one actually part of a nativity or is it a stand alone?

The Re-Stores near me, nothing like that one, or the one by Cody you have shone before. The ones I've been in are one step before the dumpster. One closed because of lack of staff. That one looked very large. Never been on the NYC "underground", but when in college (Scarborough On) where I lived, I could take the TTC subway (Toronto Transit Commission) and enjoyed that. I still have a token or two they use to sell for entrance. Now likely digital without people. Anyways, enough rambling, looked fun and great to take side adventures when available 👍👍
Good ole' tokens... The bridge from PBurg into Easton used to accept tokens as payment. As the toll has gone up, no more tokens and now it's cash or a transmitter that is read and payment is withdrawn from your bank account. I'm surprised they haven't completely phased out cash there.

My Habitat got rid of their "thrift section" They had a silly Olan Mills picture of a family portrait on the stairs circa 1977-80 that screamed Eight is Enough. I didn't buy it and it was gone! My parents has Melmac daisy plates with Texas Ware amber glasses. Wouldn't grout be good for mosaics? I think that's what they use.

Glad to see you. Branching out and looking all over. Your Restore is better by far than mine in The south new jersey area. Here Restores don't have that much and they have early bird store owners buying them before you get them they offer these people discounts as well. My best way will always be to find anything worth arugula
While are yard or estate sales. Also I found the employees look to eBay for prices which is not at all the best way or know donated or taken from jobs restoring homes are hit or miss... Non the less is the time and place. With every treasure we come upon. Great shows as always😊hope your enjoying your adventures! Take care and always shoot for the stars 🌟 ..

Hello Renee. Your Habitat for Humanity looks great and fun to hunt for treasure in. Mine needs some help with organizing. But it’s still fun to go hunt for treasure. I love going and they do have lots of antique furniture. I haven’t been out thrifting in a few months and I do miss it. But hopefully soon. I think me and my sister need a thrift day together. I have the yellow bunny, it is based on an Easter Peep candy from New Born, if you had turned it over you would have seen the Peeps embroidered on his bunny behind.😊

Was that a Bob Dylan nutcracker? Looked a bit like him. ‘ Blood on the Tracks’ era. Might have been worth a snag. Wish I'd been there. Milk and Depression? Not today. The estate sales abound with both. Amazing place that though Renee, we don't have them in the UK. Your roving camera showed me I needed something on almost every aisle!! The books and plushies were cool as well…..

Nah, can't do that. All the shops are closed today, the only thing you can buy here is ice cream and beer. And hot dogs. With mustard. Hotdogs without mustard are not worth the trouble.
If the concert date is already set, the sports teams work their game schedules around that.
We were cautioned when purchasing tickets that the event could be cancelled/rescheduled because of playoffs (Knicks & Rangers).
@@PaperandMoose and the Rangers made it through to the semifinals last night, and the Knicks just need one more win to get to the semifinals. Hopefully you get to your concert, or maybe go to a playoff game! Lol😂
I've noticed the Re-Stores in the east have way better and more stuff than the southern and mid-west states.
How are your other thrift shops?
People need to stop donating to over priced greed y Goodwill and give it to other charities such as this one.
My RE store is more boutique like and with boutique prices.

Our local re-store is open 2 mornings a week for 4 hours. They only have leftover construction supplies and a few pieces of furniture. Not worth the drive in my experience.

I've been to a few auctions where they have the older Hummel figures and usually there are just maybe two people bidding against each other for a select few. I think now it is mostly adding to one's collection or replacing a broken one that prompts people to buy them.
I grew up in New York city & love the subways ! 🚇 .. In any city I visit , if they have a subway system I check it out. Thanks for some useful tips in the clip & remember .. Lets Go Rangers 🏒 !!
