  • In the wake of the incoming orders of the MTA's zero emissions fleet to start a newer, much cleaner era of buses, numerous different depots will be undergoing their own changes as they begin to prepare to take in these new fleets that will start getting delivered by later this year. For Gun Hill Bus Depot, the all new XHE40 hydrogen fuel cell powered fleet (the first buses introduced with this type of fuel) will debut, and bring a much newer image and certainly a big change to the depots overall fleet image. After the retirement of their final 2009 Orion VII Next Generation hybrids, the depot has consisted of just purely Nova Bus LFS 4th Generations for their standard fleet, and LFSA 2nd Generations for their articulated fleet. However, in the event of getting operators used to operating a modern Xcelsior fleet type, as well as the depots maintenance department, a permanent fleet swap was put into effect by February 3rd 2023, which quickly replaced nearly every 2015-2016 LFS from the depot, and instead replaced those empty gaps with ex. Jamaica 2017-2018 XD40's, with Jamaica receiving those transferred 2015-2016 LFS'. The XD40's were kept in storage throughout the weekend, however by February 6th 2023, most of the transferred XD40's had debuted into service on all of Gun Hill's standard routes, which brings a new face to The Bronx as a whole. As of this videos posting, there is only 2 remaining 2015-2016 LFS' remaining, as Gun Hill received a few more XD40's for more operators to drive them, alongside the rest of their newer LFS SmartBus fleet. If these units get replaced with 2 final XD40's, this means Gun Hill's era of old scheme buses, as well as buses not equipped with USB ports will be over, and the depot will consist of entirely New York State scheme buses all equipped with USB ports. #mtabus

nice video!, as someone whose routes contain routes from jamaica depot, it is still very weird that there are 8300s here now.

Yeah, its a weird occurrence for both parties I would imagine. I'm sure its a change that we can get used to though, although maybe not for everybody. At least the fleet is still something Jamaica is accustomed to.

Nice! The reason why Gun Hill still has two 2015-2016 LFS' is because of 7507 and 7548, which got into accidents on the Q85. Maybe once those get fixed, they will go to GH?

When the XHE40 come Will the XD40 Stay in Gun Hill or Will they go back to jamaica

The XD40’s may stay in Gun Hill, though only time will tell. I don’t think they would transfer a whole fleet of them into the depot and bring them back after only 2 XHE40’s are delivered. Plans could change though.

I’d say at the end of this year/early 2024, approximately.
