LOCATION: Majestic Theatre, NYC

NOTE (PLEASE READ):
This video was uploaded purely for entertainment purposes only, and to preserve the legacy of the final flagship Brilliant Original production of The Phantom of the Opera, which permanently closed on April 16, 2023. This, along with the several other videos on this channel, were uploaded with the hopes that viewers would see what this incredible show once was before being reduced and scaled down (except in Japan and Korea), only to be called "substantially identical" to the original. This video especially displays one of the most important aspects that made this show the success that it was: it's orchestra. The Brilliant Original production had an orchestra ranging from 27-29 musicians throughout its 35 year run, making it the largest orchestra on Broadway. This full orchestra brought the show to life with its rich, beautiful melodies. Every production of Phantom now has scrapped this (including the original productions in Japan and Korea), instead opting for a halved orchestra with digital synthesizers to "make up" for the lost instruments. This makes the previously grand orchestrations dull and lifeless. It is likely no version of Phantom will ever utilize a full orchestra ever again. So please, enjoy this recording of the full, 27 piece orchestra playing one of the greatest play outs in Broadway history.
As much as it pains me that Phantom of the Opera is no longer showing, just remember don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.
I love this and I love phantom so much! Thanks for sharing
I will forever be so grateful that I got to see Phantom at its peak with the glorious huge orchestra and the beautiful proscenium statues and the pure 80s extravagance of it all. Nothing will ever come close to the feeling of that chandelier rising to the ceiling of the Majestic while the sheer force of the overture rumbles your seat. I would do unspeakable things just to get this show back on Broadway in its original form.
Thank you so much for committing to just angling that camera at those red curtains with that proscenium. Can't get enough of it!
absolutely! in all honesty, the proscenium is my favorite thing about this show. not only is it just gorgeous (and absolutely massive in person, each statue is nearly 2x the size of a regular person) but it also serves as the perfect metaphor for the themes of the show. i couldn’t resist the opportunity to record it!
Can’t believe phantom on Broadway no longer exists
I know, I need to go see it in London. So sad 😢
@@milliem8051 sadly, the london production has been watered down, and the orchestra was cut in half, among many other reductions across the show. the original production is currently playing in japan, korea, and china. if you are able to, i highly recommend seeing it in one of these locations!
@@_zeerosd good to know though I prefer to see it in English
@@milliem8051 if you want to see the sequel. Love never dies is coming to London this summer in August. I don’t know if it’s sold out though
@@milliem8051 There's also a new production (in English) with Ramin Karimloo in Milan, Italy, scheduled for mid-October
Beautiful music and wonderful video. Thanks for recording and sharing!
Amazing we got to live to see this, the King of the Stage, for 35 beautiful years. Theater will never be the same.
I love phantom and Christine ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Do you have any more? Like Point of No Return or Masquerade?
sadly, no. i have a couple more videos lined up to release, but they're mostly generic things like the chandelier reset during intermission.
