All I can say is thank god I grew up in the 70s/80s & got to hear all this music on the radio, as it was released. The whole feeling was so amazing back then, compared to now. We had the best music of so many genres, genuinely talented musicians, good vibes, fun, funky, rock etc..nothing better.
That era is the peak of American culture!
Born in 72 and grateful. Not just better music and awesome movies but none of the woke nonsense we have now. We knew what a woman was and black people were just people.

The only word for this man's voice is smooth. Love Kool & The Gang! This sound came out at the time where funk was peaking, and it was this groovy little bubble in time of "R&B meets disco" dance music. Kool & the Gang, George Benson, Lou Rawls, Earth Wind & Fire, even Michael Jackson was into it with his Off The Wall album! So good!!

Kool and the Gang were masters of the groove. They had kind of three iterations. Early 70's they had a real jazz/ funk vibe. As they moved through the 70's they became more of a Funk band. Towards the end of the 70's into the 80's when J.T. became their singer (this song) they became more of a groove soul band. They were amazing through it all.
This group were fantastic in the 80s. "Cherish" "Joanna" "Celebration" & "Ladies Night" were ALL great songs by Kool & The Gang. ❤🎶🎼

Wife here..,Kool and the gang were an absolute quentissential band of the eighties!!!...I bought every record and album they produced.....Hey Amber, ..,My Dad liked these guys as well!!...Fresh is Amazing!!..The 80's couldn't of happened without them!!💃💕
When you have songs like this I watch your reactions over and over. My dance song during the day. At family togetherness me and my niece requested this song to get people moving and dancing. Yeah! We're known for this. What a grove and a faithful watcher.

You nailed it-I was an uptight little white kid growing up in the late 70s and early 80s and I was so lucky that bands like this (and the Gap Band, and the Brothers Johnson, and all the amazing funk/pop bands of that time) told me to just find a groove and dance.

Definitely a building block of the 70's & 80's dance scene. They got alot of sweet songs.
For lovers of funk and the horn section, 70's Kool and the Gang got you with tunes like Hollywood Swinging, Jungle Boogie, and Spirit of the Boogie and the fantastic OPEN SESAME. For a nice vibe, Summer Madness is your gig. When you get to the 80's, the band re organized around a lead singer and released a string of more well known hits like Ladies Night, Cherish, Too Hot and Joanna.
Celebration is a must! A classic, their biggest hit, and a great song. Jungle Boogie and Ladies' Night also great. Saw them live in 2012, and they played them all. Best of all, they were opening for Van Halen.

Kool & The Gang were one of the best bands back in the 70 's and 80's along with Midnight Star, Rose Royce, One Way and Atlantic Starr. Try Jungle Boogie, Hollywood Swinging, Tonight, Ladies Night, Hangin' Out, Misled and Celebration. 😉

This is when music was Real. Real instruments, no mixers, or pre recorded beats. And they enjoyed music in their heart's.
Who says the funk era ended in the 70s? Not me. Kool & The Gang (who started groovin' the year I was born, 1969) were making charted hits all through the 80s, and are still going today! "Let's Go Dancing" has always been my favorite of theirs because of its reggae vibe, but I think you'd also love "Joanna", "Misled", "Tonight", or their sweet love ballad, "Cherish". Robert "Kool" Bell was one of the GOATs of 80s R&B!

"Celebration" was THE song at every family gathering with every generation doing the electric slide -- toddlers to grands and even babies held in arms. Everybody was getting down on the floor.
I loved Too Hot, Hollywood Swinging & Jungle Boogie.
But seriously, that late 70s/early 80s R&B era just was a 5 minute party every song.
GAP Band, EWF, Atlantic Star, Midnight Star, Heatwave, Shalamar, Switch, The Whispers, Zap & Roger, Chic, Dazz Band, Mtume, Commodores, Jacksons, Con Funk Shun.

Ten years ago I saw them opening for.....no kidding...Van Halen. They were FANTASTIC. What an eclectic night.
I saw that tour. A night of awesome music.

Taylor was the lead singer of the band for most of their songs, then he left the group to go solo. Kool & the Gang is an American R&B/funk band formed in Jersey City, New Jersey, in 1964 by brothers Robert "Kool" Bell and Ronald Bell, with Dennis "Dee Tee" Thomas, Robert "Spike" Mickens, Charles Smith, George Brown, and Ricky West. They have a lot of great hits that U guys have to react. Celebration; Ladies Night (Long Version); Jungle Boogie; Hollywood Swinging; Summer Madness(Instrumental); Cherish; Too Hot; Joanna; Emergency; Misled; and many great hits. More..yes... So many great family get-togethers with music like this playing... Sometimes our family would get together back-to-back days.weekends.. At the family building...7440.. In Chicago... All floors family owned. Everyone brought their own barbecue pits., the backyard full with them the. fence to the next house open because a cousins own that as well children everywhere... Men and women enjoying each other's company.. Different Music playing in all four apartments. Boomboxes in the back yard... Such a great time to be a child. I miss it a lot..... But I'm grateful to have those Moments... Thank You.....

Aging myself…Graduated from high school in 1980. For the graduating class there was a thing they called "Grad Nite". It took place at Disney World in Orlando.
Let's take a nostalgic look back to another time-to “a warmer kind of sunrise” and the Grad Nites at Walt Disney World in the’70s & ‘80s. . . when more than 8,500 students gathered for the largest graduation party ever thrown in the United States. Kool and the Gang was there, along with KC and the Sunshine Band right in front of Cinderella’s Castle. There was another band there called McFadden and Whitehead. Singing there a hit "Ain’t No Stopping Us Now".

I'm glad u guys got to enjoy this group, soooo it was early '80's we lived in Ft Scott 70 miles S of KCMO, on Frid nite you could either spend $5 on a Royals game (cheap seats) or $5 after 5 at Worlds of Fun, and they had a band @ least once a week, we got there and it was Kool and the Gang, they had just got back from Japan and had won some kind of Festival for this very music, there was soooo much great music it was like trying to drink from a fire hose, couldn't be done....it warms my lil heart 2 see you guys love this music so much its great to share...peace

This group was huge when I was a little kid. My parents used to play their song Celebration at all the birthday parties. I love all of their songs though. Roller skating to their songs was fun too. 🎉

OMG....This transported me back to High School, college and Grad School.... they had soo many hits that many of us danced to (and sang)! I am sitting in the laundry facility of the 55+ Community where I live in SoCal with my earbuds in and groovin' to this! Yes, all us old farts (I'm 63) were cool and down with "Kool and the Gang!". So many more songs to listen to!

This band is SO MUCH FUN to listen to! this song was a great suggestion! the sound and movements that come over you is addicting! Just like "Celebration", this tune has to be a part of any DJ's playlist at a wedding reception!

Kool & The Gang are one of my all-time top 10 bands like Earth Wind & Fire 🔥 carried the big band genre of the 60's, 70's, and 80's this band among a few carried the sound to the 90's and beyond. We don't have any popular big band groups today.
Thursday night was Ladies Night at the clubs. So you know Kool & the Gang's Ladies Night was always played. Such fun times!

This was one of those roller-skating rink songs back in the day. Such a classic song. One of my favorites is "Victory" and once you react to the song and see the video, you'll understand. Please do CELEBRATION soon!! it is so much fun and lots of great horns, the song stands the tests of time. The song came out around the fall of 1980 and was doing well then in January, Americans held hostage in Iran were safely released after being held 444 days. The song captured the celebratory mood of the country and lept to the top of the charts.
The song that comes to mind when I hear Kool and the Gang is "Celebration". It stayed #1 for weeks. Unfortunately, it was driven in the ground lol.
