You asked why I made the video, and the answer is quite simple. I was curious how the game was doing on console and started Googling. After finding the active players website, the information made me happy. Near the bottom of the page, it even says "Is Mortal Kombat 1 Dying? No, Far from it!" and that phrase is what inspired my title. I wanted to create a positive video for my audience to enjoy based on the information that I gathered that day from various sites. I enjoy playing Mortal Kombat 1 and my friends do as well. We want to see the game improve and grow; similar to how we felt with SFV. It doesn't really go any deeper than that. I worry my Tekken 8 video gave you a bad impression of me, but the truth is that I want all fighting games to succeed. I cover mostly MK stuff lately, but mainly because my audience has made it clear they prefer that content. Cheers and I hope your channel keeps doing well.

Obviously, you know my video is not a hate video and just an observation of the information presented so I do have to ask.. how comes you didn't show the full scope of the numbers or break down the actual fluctuations in the player retention? I get you wanna make a positive video for your audience and the people that come to your channel, but don't you think it'd be a better idea to represent the facts as accurately as possible?
@@RealMikeHollow Which fluctuations in particular? Do you mean how the game kept losing players each month? I suppose that part felt implied to me. The game had an absurdly bad desync bug when Quan Chi dropped, then when the desync was fixed we see a similar number of players come back. Or are you referring to something else?
From the get go, MK lost 400,000+ players in its first month and went on to lose roughly 1 million. You referenced the most recent spike in returning players which showed 160,000+ but the issue with that spike in players is that it is exactly the same as the players that left the game in January so the numbers can't be accurate. You only referenced the irregular spike that mirrored it's lack of retention from the previous month. I was wondering why that wasn't acknowledged in your video even though you put the stats on the screen.

MK11 is 3 years old? Is he lost? The game came out April of 2019, it's almost 5 years old...also that's embarrassing how a 5 year old game which was shat on for years is now doing better than the most recent release. TUD is coping so hard about MK1...it's genuinely sad 💀.
I believe the real reason MK11 was shitted on was because of the lack of Kombos. Like literally for Spawn, like only TWO moves were for launching for Kombos 😂😂 other than that Spawn didn’t launch. Almost ALL Characters had one or two launch attacks. The characters move set was useless asf

This really makes me think he's just trying to make the game not look as tho it's dying to keep his audience (who are probably predominantly MK fans) interested in the game and engaging with MK1 so that his videos perform better on his channel.
He probably saw the current daily figures and decided against using those because of how low they are on PC.

You can make a more recent example with people jumping from MK 1 to MK 11 with the Suicide Squad game. A lot of people were unhappy with that game and the last game in the series, Arkham Knight, has garnered a big boost in players base. Despite some of the issues with Arkham Knight, people still chose to go back and play a game made almost 10 years ago, cause the current product was that bad.
Literally me. Arkham Knight is so much better than i remember. Im actually enjoying the batmobile combat and working on getting all the Riddler trophies. So much more fun than playing the same three missions in the endgame of Suicide Squad ad nauseam. I put a ton of hours into mortal kombat 1 and then one session it just hit me; i hate this game, why am i playing it. Same thing happened with suicide squad. I think WB Games in general have a huge problem when years old games are just more enticing than the current products.

And now he is trying too hard to help out and work those money out so hard, that his understanding of things that he says is completely gone. Also, that explains why almost none of the NRS are active on social media. Cause they are doing damage control. Sadly for them, it's not going to work out. For whatever reason, I thought MK1 came out like over a year ago. It just looks so ancient... But now I realize it came out only like 4-5 months before Tekken 8. This is a crazy difference. I've only played Tekken my whole life. Never touched other fighting games. But I just can't comprehend how people would think it's better than Tekken.

My measurement system for games is based on my location; Australia.
•if the game has no players in Australia than it’s either dead or has dropped so much that it’s close to dead in other countries.
•if the game still has players in Australia than the game is nowhere close to dead.
The mortal kombat games NEVER have players in Australia unless they only JUST came out. Mk11 took a few weeks to have no players in Australia.

When sf5 came out a lot of players (myself included) kept playing sf4 for a while.
This is the same situation.
Using Steam Charts for comparison, SF6 reaches a peak of ~20,000 players on a given day on Steam, but the peak for MK1 is just over 1,000 players at the time of writing this. What will make this worse is A) Ed drops soon, which will bring more people back into the game and B) one game has crossplay whereas the other does not.

Monster Hunter World, a 2018 game, post the big influx of players it had last month because of the announcement of Wilds, having more players than MK1 is sad honestly.

Playing devil's advocate here, that second month where mk1 lost 400k players. That number could be the amount of casuals/ offline only players that have stopped playing.
Biggest thing I've noticed from crossing into the Tekken space. When I play Tekken online and get my ass beat, I never get salty. Polar opposite to the experience of playing mk1 online, where I will either be frame trapped to oblivian, or I will be zoned till I submit. 😂
There's no way you can be a modern day fighting game consumer and see that a major fighting game drop 400k players and see the prior game in the series get an uptick in players and conclude that MK1 is in a good spot. The lines of reasoning is so weird
I'm a casual and I loved MK11 and spent hundreds of hours on, even after its life cycle ended. MK1 has been a massive let down since day 1. The only thing that would bring me back at this point would be a massive content overhaul but that's not happening any time soon and even if it did I'm sure they'd charge for it.

I watched that video and thought the point was to say that the (negative)perception of the game may be disproportionately amplified by Steam statistics, or a handful of RUclips content creators.

I am simply not going to listen to a single thing a person has to say if they have Overwatch merchandise on display in their home.
The reason I can’t commit or stay loyal to mortal kombat is because they change the move set for every character and commands for every game. I loved sub zero in mk10 but hated him in mk11 cos they changed him so much. In contrast i am an avid loyalist for Kazuya in tekken.
Guys it’s confirmed by the man who speaks out of his nose with the lisp. Both games are masterpieces.

Trueunderdawg: Look at how many people are playing Mortal Kombat! It is very impressive.
He's just a stupid simp at this point, it's absurd. SF6 may be on last gen, but the fact that the online is still amazing and that it runs at a stable 60 fps is a testament to how good that game is. Mk1 is not on last gen consoles because the engine is Unreal engine 5. From what I searched, Unreal Engine 5 is not ideal for last gen. I don't recall any UE5 games on last gen, unless you count the switch port of MK1, which is one of the ugliest things ever made.
And to top it all off, Tekken 8, a game only on current gen hardware, and runs really well, sold 2 million copies within 3 weeks. Need I say more?
