This is an excellent roundup of the discussion around the new perspective. Thank you for your honest, educated and articulate explanation of what this is about. It's great that you do the work for us and help us to know what is worth buying/reading in order to engage with this teaching in a balanced and prayerful attitude. Much appreciated.
Hi Stephen. I think Barclay's book is excellent. Wright's 'Paul and the Faithfulness of God' deserves a mention but suffers from not being edited anywhere near enough. He could have said the same thing in just one volume not two. But that's Wright for you!! All the best Steve
You are right! Should have mentioned it, but then I took one look at the two volumes before filming and couldn't raise the emotional or physical strength to lift them off the shelf and wave them in front of the camera...Bless you my friend!!
Dear Stephen, this is such a helpful message! Thank you so much for preparing for it and reminding us of the earlier books. When I first read Stendahl's essay (twice) about 15 years ago, I thought he hit the nail on the head. Dunn's books are also excellent though this one too expensive for me until now, as too Sanders, as is Barclay's which Tom Schreiner says has been a big influence on his thinking on Paul. They are quite substantial books. I have struggled with this for many years, not because it isn't clear now that the Jewish food laws, sabbath and circumcision weren't the dividing line (they certainly were), and that justification is of eschatological importance (thanks to NTW for that), but because St Paul did seem to me to treat obedience to the Law (failure thereof) as THE Jewish problem of his day. I have found these two approaches not easy to reconcile, even with help of NTW's many books. And on everything else, as before, yes and amen, with you all the way. Wonderful; thank you.
You ae very kind! I have kept putting off this one so I am glad to get it out of the way. I loved reading all those books and yet I know that they can be divisive. Bless you for taking the time to comment!
Thank you so much Steven for your detailed comment which is so helpful. I find myself in some similar places to your self and understand exactly where you are coming from. God bless you!
Thank you for this video! Ironically, I just picked up the "New Perspective" (revised ed.) by James Dunn today! 🙂 (Also, I have added the Barclay book to my Amazon cart!)

My first Pastor told me when I was 10 years old - don't just believe what I say but go home and study for yourself - those words have stood me in good stead all these years. Bless you!

But is it irony? or has God's Spirit got a hand in it? Who knows? Or there is that proverb "great minds think alike". Enjoy your reading!
