The head skull with the hoodie plus the paint make these shiny custodes way more appealing to me. I'm definitely building a custodes team! Ty for the idea.
I love really simple, but impactful paint jobs and this is one of the best! I'm likely to start collecting Stormcast soon as my first AoS army and I'm going to make them "Stonecast"!
Don't let anyone stop your creativity with these models my personally reason I want to join the hobby is so I can make my own custom army so what if I can't use them in tournaments I can still use them for fun
@MiniatureHobbyist yessss!!!! Music to my ears, and they obliterated them in absolute style!! A solid sub from my bro! Love your content, especially those dioramas. I might put my pile of shame to some use 🤣 Continue on imperator! 💯
Very cool mate 👍. They look awesome. They are also on my list to buy in the future. I am just finished painting my kill team into the dark terrain. I can now start getting aqainted with the rules to play lots of games and to make some battle reports for it.
@@MiniatureHobbyist Most definitely, that is the great appeal of these skirmish games. The ability to play multiple factions without breaking the bank. I rather play smaller games and have loads of fun with many then spend loads of money on simply 1 army
One tip from another channel us to use a bead of Green Stuff connecting the torso, another for the head. Makes them tabletop taller but proportions remain good.
So, for the record you build to the rule of cool. Nothing wrong with that. Just means if you meet a new player you have to let him know about your foibles. I think there are a few lads out there that enjoy discovering new foibles. By the way, when using magnets, have you ever thought of using tin for the base point to attach the magnet? I lost a magnet into a Serpent and decided the best recovery process was a flat bit of tin which funnily enough does not have a specific polarity.
The whole hide and seek of parts does my box in! These look cool, really enjoying your kill team content, power to you giving them the big punchy fists.
@@MiniatureHobbyist have you considered doing a couple vids on scatter terrain for kill team? Like video of: here's what I chose is 3d printed and how I painted it.
@@zackcook5123 I have, I want to do a video of making terrain from junk and recycled stuff everyone would have at home, I just havent got round to it yet lol 🙂
someone will have to correct me but i tihnk there is a part of the custodes that wears darker/black armor. either way love it, they've got the vibe of being trapped in a space hulk.
Its a piece of plastic with a magnet stuck inside, it helps me place magnets as well as always getting them the correct way round lol, especially with these small fiddly magnets 🙂
@@MiniatureHobbyist lore wise they're the predecessors to space marines they wear Mark one armor which is basically power armor mixed with medieval plate
Where on earth did you get those arms my guy? I've decided that I need to make these for my kill team but with Grey Knight heads. I know where to get everything except those beefy arms. The stls I've found have random junk all over the power arms and yours are nice and simple. If you - or someone - could drop a link or at least show me where to start looking I'd be grateful.
One might argue a death watch crew is a kill team, a single custodes is a massacre crew, and several custodes is just carnage at a level that'd make even the 'ardest nob boyz balk. With that said, bitchin' models you put together. The skulls make me think of some specialized archeotech helmets.
It's a genuine shame that the team doesn't consist of a single mini. Custodes are the best of the best, and when they feel they're getting on a bit, they go out on their own to hunt the Emperor's enemies.
@@TechnoDemon164 True, but with a small scale skirmish game, the opportunities for remaining closer to the lore do exist. There are several computer games where it's one 'OP' player vs a whole team, and they've found a way to balance them and keep the fun. You can do "contrast" paints using regular paint. These speed paints/contrast/whatever you want to call them are essentially regular acrylic paints with extra glazing liquid, gel medium extender, transparent extender, high flow medium, and acrylic thinner pre-mixed in. If you already have a bunch of acrylic paint, you can just buy a bottle of gel medium with extender and flow improver at around $8~$15 for 200 ml (or gel medium, extender, and flow improver all separate). This will last you multiple armies before you start running low. The only downside is you have to experiment with getting the right consistency, reading the instructions on how to mix properly, and will likely have to mix up new batches every time you want to paint (you can always bottle up mixes you use frequently). The price of speed paints and whatnot is simply paying for the convenience of using the product straight from the pot.
@@nekrataali thanks for the info mate, to be honest all that extra work kinda takes away the reason I was gonna buy them, I struggle for time to paint to be honest, a single mini takes me alot of time to get it finished. So I was thinking if this sped up the shading and highlighting steps I could get alot more done. It seems it works better on clothing to be honest, not sure if j like the effect it leaves on armour plating
@@sirkarl1 It sounds more complicated than it is. It's like instead of mixing your paint with water to thin it down, you're just mixing it with a substance that won't cause the paint to flake, chip, fade, or pool. You'll spend more time trying to paint up layers gradually vs. just using glazing medium to slap chop.

If you end up liking it, why not make two sets?
A lot of tournaments are fine with proxys if you can tell what units they are, just ask if u are interested
oh these just look rad as hell! awesome idea, I like the power fist to make their hands bigger, changes up the silhouette in a cool way
Love this look. They looked straight fire with just the white dry brush too. Really well done!
Those are Freakin Sweet Sir. I might just do this for my Custodes for the new Boarding action

Which white paint did you use during the dry brush step? It came out CLEAN
