someone pls bring this to a Friendsgiving potluck 👀 ALSO, genuinely curious, what other viral diabolical foods have you come across, that you think we should debunk together? 👀 taking all your comment suggestions below~
as someone with oral allergy syndrome specifically toward apples (and pears), this honestly fascinates me because i would love to be able to have pie like this again
Ditto that! Hubby has a similar allergy to pollinated fruit (tied to hay fever). I’ve made this before and it’s amazing how it does taste like apple pie. Last year he discovered he can eat processed apple pie filling without any issues.
@@bernadettewhitty2313 You guys should check out keto options for apple pie, primarily replacing the apples with chayote. There are also extracts and flavorings that will mimic almost anything, apple is a pretty easy flavor to mimic, so you could add the extract to your chayote pie or crumble. I promise chayote tastes amazing, and I'm not recommending it just because it's an ok keto replacement, it really should be used more in most kitchens.
Your videos always brighten my day. Thanks for being you! Please make a behind the scenes video. I’d love to see how you film everything to look so amazing. I want to make videos as awesome as yours.
I made this many years ago in high school home ec (yes im home ec years old). It does work and honestly now that im allergic to apples..might have to revisit it
real talk, i was gifted the Graza "sizzle" oil last year for xmas by either an exec or producer at my workplace as part of a gift bag bundle; at first i thought "...huh, a SQUEEZE bottle, okay, sure", but then after a few uses the oil itself really started to grow on me! then i found out later what the price tag was and hoo boy, no wonder it was an exec that gifted it LMAO since i'm the only one cooking with it, it's still got quite a bit left in the bottle, but given that it's the holidays i'm super stoked i can just use this code to buy these as gifts for my family, so thank youuuuuuuu
I made this many years ago as a child! We were all amazed how it tasted just like an apple pie! I’ve never made it again, but I’ve never forgotten it either!
Another reason to choose this over apple pie, is that it appears to be less labor intensive and uses mostly pantry stable ingredients. So, if you needed to pull together a dessert with items on hand, this is an option
What is this sorcery? I love how you find these recipes and share your personal take on them. In an apocalypse, I’m definitely looking for Inga to help me get through it! 😅
lol I might be the oldest one who remembers this recipe on cracker boxes in the 70-80s. It confused me how would depression-era homes have enough money for crackers and butter? Perhaps they lasted longer in pantry than apples and that’s why. Anyway never tried it so cool to see your experience!
We made this in Girl Guides (Canadian Girl Scouts) in like, 20...12 I want to say! It was pretty good, we did it as part of our history and baking modules! :D
@@cookiemonster59263 oh interesting! I always have remembered the recipes that I made as a kid in school learning how to cook. Dorito casserole and snickerdoodles lol. They might make mock apple pie as adults one day and remember too. ☺️
i believe this mock apple pie recipe came about due to apple shortages, not necessarily to save money. and in the video she says originally they used stale bread instead of store bought crackers
My mom made it when I was a kid and we slurped it down but then as kids we were always hungry 😂…now I’m 79. I’m always hungry so maybe I should make it again?
An even better option is replacing the apples with chayote. I do not like squash normally, but it's super yummy and what people use on keto to replace apples. You can add an apple extract or flavoring, too, but it's good without it, too, and not just because it's keto friendly. I feel bad we don't eat it enough, it's one of my fave veggies.
It really fascinates me for your creative skills in baking..🍎I love the way you caramelized the filing.. Thank you for sharing your delicious apple pie..Blessings to you my friend 🍉🍇🥭🍎🍏
I made this about 100 times when I was a kid. Loved it. Did not bother using a pie crust - you can just dump the filling into a pie pan and it’s great.
The dish looks absolutely mouthwatering; just looking at it makes you feel like you've tasted a slice of heaven. I can only imagine how amazing it must be to actually savor it-probably a festival of flavors waiting to explode!
I originally watched a video by B. Dylan Hollis where he made a Ritz Cracker Mock Apple Pie. He mentioned that the Cream of Tartar is the ingredient responsible for creating the apple taste. I believe he used four teaspoons of cream of tartar so the taste may intensify with a bit more of this ingredient. I'm really anxious to try this recipe out since in my area the price of fresh apples in quantity necessary for a pie would greatly exceed the cost of a box of Ritz Crackers (though like everything else. these have also gotten pricey for what you get).
My mother use to make these all my life (I'm 56) growing up. These are amazing, at least hers was. I will be making these soon. Wish she was here to try mine.
Great job Inga! Now if you could please make the mock "fried chicken " using sweet potatoes. It was in a cookbook written by Dr. George Washington Carver, designed for those who could not afford meat. Thank you!
Yay! I guessed correctly! :) Thanks for your content! As a chef turned food scientist, I love your balance of calm, curiosity and respect for all things culinary ❤
On one hand, my grandma is probably rolling in her grave as her apple crisp and apple pie recipes were the stuff of legends (as were, in contrast, the severely overcooked Swedish meatballs that even the dogs wouldn't eat). On the other hand, she grew up during the Great Depression and may have done this for all I know.
B. Dylan Hollis has a cookbook with a bunch of crazy old timey recipes! My bf and I actually fooled his whole family with Hollis's ritz apple pie recipe!😂😊
I have made something similar for the family members that are allergic to apples, my son included, and it was a pretty close dupe. I think the scent of the spices tricks us I to thinking it's apple
So funny to get an age check. Because Mock apple pie was pretty well known, at least in my family, and I'm Gen X. I think it's so strange to see this brought back as a shocking novelty.
What balsamic vinegar do you recommend? My husband loves to eat bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. However, the new balsamic vinegar i bought him is too runny. Thanks!
If anyone has tried this, would you say the texture of the filling is the same as normal apple pie, or is it different? I have a lot of food texture sensitivities [tism] to the point of gagging and being unable to swallow things. I cannot stand any baked goods with cooked fruit. Since Inga mentioned it being more texturally similar to apple sauce, this might be something I could eat!
This is why our grandparents as old millennials, were so much more likely to survive than us. Creativity and comfort while saving all the money… we should take months.
I was like =o the entire video Great permanent takeaway could be to use the crumble on top! I wonder what uses that might have outside of this Also 8:18 (yes she is, the pie looks good too)
Your cooking skills are seriously impressive! 🍳🔥apple pies are the best of course. We've also started a channel (Hipster-Comicures), introducing handy gadgets perfect for kitchen and home cooks in a humorous style. L👀k it up! Keep up the amazing work!
I like how you throw a sponsor ever so subtely in there while eating your $10 "snack"... lol... Graza marketing blitz continues to hit every youtube and tiktok'er on the internet... just buy a squeeze bottle and pour in your kirkland olive oil for a 60% instant savings... ignore the "hype" and sponsored free stuff for these folks!
Great depression? so they had access to a ritz cracker which is a industrial food you need to pay money than apples which just grows in your backyards and roadsides?
I guess some people might enjoy this or even need this, so I don't mind it existing. Though calling it apple anything, sounds like ''AI art'' to me 😂😂. That being said I might try it.
B.Dylan Hollis did this apple? pie such a long time ago, give him credit, this is just rude. He even has a book about baking old recipes. I can't believe no one mentioned him in the comments.
Let me preface this by saying that I’m a fan and this is not meant to be a malicious comment, and is rather coming from a place of concern and confusion. What is going on here?? I’ve always loved Inga’s videos and presentation style since A.T.E. and gladly subscribed to this channel but her video concepts have been getting progressively worse. Viral ramen hacks? Viral rice cooker recipes? Viral 3 ingredient recipes? Now, an apple-less apple pie, which hit a complete new low for me. Not to mention she took a bread baking course in France, and first thing she made upon return were viral rice paper croissants ;( I don’t get it. Are those an attempt to connect with TikTok gen? I root for Inga because I believe she is a very knowledgeable and talented cook and presenter but this is not in the least compelling.
someone pls bring this to a Friendsgiving potluck 👀

What’s the recipe so I can try it myself and make one before this coming Thursday for Friendsgiving please?
What a coincidence I’m literally brain storming ideas for desserts at my friend’s giving
Might do JUST that.
Not a viral food but can you do a video on how you do your hair it always looks so shiny and blown out

The intensely caramelized color was not expected. And neither was the gooey-ness of that filing. Wild.
really couldn’t get over how gorgeous the color was- totally unexpected ngl
my grandmother would make this and no one ever knew that it wasn't made with real apples! delicious !
Disturbed and intrigued is the perfect response to this recipe. Thank you for trying these viral recipes.

Never thought I would here a food review saying 'it is terrifying' and think.......I must make it now! 🤣
exactly why I had to make it 🥲
LOL at you throwing the apple and then regretting it a second later 😂 v v intrigued by this recipe!!
your voice is so calming i love hearing you talk!
these are the type of videos i used to love watching on the tasty channel. i’m glad y’all all have personal channels now we can still engage with.
When you randomly started making something else in the middle of this I was like "what is going on!?" Then I got it, no shade lol. Fun video
I think this recipe is very similar to a British Treacle Tart recipe, try that I think you would love it.
i feel like i absolutely must give this a try
What is this sorcery? I love how you find these recipes and share your personal take on them. In an apocalypse, I’m definitely looking for Inga to help me get through it! 😅
What I never understand is how these recipes come about like who was like let me throw some crackers in a pie shell, it’ll be great 😅

Inga you're my favorite youtuber!! Thank you for making videos 😊
Saving this one for the applocalypse.
this makes me hope for an Inga & B Dylan Hollis crossover.

Cinnamon, Cinamon and more cinnamon makes the magic
I was just thinking about this omg Inga you really do get it
Emmy did this a while ago and its so cool to see
Yes! Fellow Emmy and Inga watcher
Looks like a crumble pie ('kruimelvlaai') in Dutch. Great twist to a apple pie without the fruit!
Thank you Inga for making this so we all don’t have to do it. You are appreciated!!
here to serve, as always 🫡
My mother use to make these all my life (I'm 56) growing up. These are amazing, at least hers was. I will be making these soon. Wish she was here to try mine.
I used to make this all time. I learned how to make it in my food science class in high school.
Inga has outdone herself.. this was fascinating to say the least🍏
The cream of tartar is the flavor sub for the apple. It’s acidic and the tartness resembles that of an apple.
It's weird seeing a recipe from the 1930s go viral.
I've never been this early to one of her videos. As an apple pie lover, I'm so intrigued but so scared lol
honestly a totally valid sentiment
Great job Inga! Now if you could please make the mock "fried chicken " using sweet potatoes. It was in a cookbook written by Dr. George Washington Carver, designed for those who could not afford meat. Thank you!

I wonder how that would work with chopped pecans to make a mock pecan pie.
"Maybe it's fun to try. Other than that, stick to your apple pies." BARS 🗣
I'm strangely intrigued by this recipe, I really hadn't expected that colour and texture.
I made this years and years ago. Amazingly good
your hair looks absolutely gorgeous everytime ! how do you get that result ?

Recipe dates further back than the depression and is said to have been used when apples werent available, from my internet sleuthing
B. Dylan Hollis has a cookbook with a bunch of crazy old timey recipes!
My bf and I actually fooled his whole family with Hollis's ritz apple pie recipe!😂😊
watching your videos from Philippines!!!
I never clicked on a notification this quickly.
Whoever came up with this is a fuckin genius.
My mom used to make this all the time when I was a kid!
Inga getting a tad sassy with a recipe? Nice. 🤓 But you know she's so kind and apologized to that apple in the beginning. 🍎
I have made something similar for the family members that are allergic to apples, my son included, and it was a pretty close dupe. I think the scent of the spices tricks us I to thinking it's apple
That olive oil is so good
So funny to get an age check. Because Mock apple pie was pretty well known, at least in my family, and I'm Gen X. I think it's so strange to see this brought back as a shocking novelty.
“It is trickery, it is deception!!!”
-Inga Lam on TikTok’s Ritz Apple Pie
the Depression really was the mother of invention
What balsamic vinegar do you recommend? My husband loves to eat bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. However, the new balsamic vinegar i bought him is too runny. Thanks!
What I find bizarre is that the only thing missing is apples... but apples are cheaper than Ritz crackers. What's happened in this country?
[Johnny Bravo 'sickened yet curious' meme here] (but 100% yes it did weirdly look like apple pie)
If anyone has tried this, would you say the texture of the filling is the same as normal apple pie, or is it different? would say it does have less overall texture than your regular chunky apple pie! especially if you cook the crackers for a little longer
Inga is sooo Beautiful!!!
Crackers cost more than apples nowadays
gorgeous

highly highly recommend the crumble by itself!!

This is so dystopian to see in this political climate.
Uh, surely apples were easier to get hold of than exotic lemons? Strange.
The original recipe called for lemon juice in bottles.

it stinks!

No no no, too much fake food already in the market. Adding fake apple pie, which is American signature desert, is too far.
