I feel the same, such good entertaining editing that gives of the feel of something very professional but still homemade and relatable in a way. Which is also how Claire’s recipes taste. Such good visual representation of this small team and the home kitchen
One of the most beautifull things about claire is that she doesn't pretend. Shes just a regular woman. She doubts, gets confused, is lazy to do certain things, makes mistakes, etc. These are all good things. She's not an influencer pretending to be perfect. She's just one of us. I have found this very enjoyable and endearing since I discovered her when she worked at bon appetit.
It's so so important to humanize the cooking/baking experience. She gives tips even when not struggling because she has experienced such challenges And she explains why her suggestions will help. She is a great teacher. I've also learned a lot from creators such as Emmymade, Sohla,, and Carla Lalli who take a similar approach to presentation for their viewers.
I feel like the production of this episode was more subdued than usual and it really let Claire’s technical skill and knowledge shine. Amazing episode as always, you guys are awesome.

As a German I'm pretty surprised that they discontinued the deep fried Apple Pies in the USA in the 90s already 😮 They're still selling them here in my country and they always have been selling them, as long as I've been on this planet. They're insanely delicious and sometimes they have them with other fillings like cherries. You should try them as well, the pastry on these is pretty nice. They have these tiny crispy bubbles on the surface. Amazing.
@@deyvidyfs Nice! Banana pie also sounds delicious! I might have to try to recreate that! I live in Germany, we only have the apple pie as standard item. Everything else is just seasonal and limited. Right now they have "Double Choc" pie, made with a dark chocolate pastry and chocolate filling.
It's because in the 90s Americans were like, Oh were getting less healthy, I know, instead of organizing for walkable cities and more paid time off and a higher minimum wage so that we can buy and prepare our own food with less stress, lets just freak out about McDonalds convenience foods. We're still doing it, take a look at the "Make America Healthy Again" campaign, pretending like food dyes are the problem lol
I love everything about this series. But especially how the kitties get special little appearances, even editor's cat Spud gets a cameo at the end! Very endearing.
I'm so-so on seeing the cats 😬. I wish she wouldn't pick them up, hold them against her apron and then immediately handle food again. I also wish they'd show her change aprons and wash her hands. It just seems like cat hair is definitely in the food too. I love her and her technical mind. I've been watching since the bon appetit days...and no cats in the kitchen.
I love episodes like this where things don't necessarily go exactly as planned and we get to hear Claire's thinking as she solves the issues in real time. Very informative :D
I dont know if things were different in europe/Germany, but i feel like i ate the fried apple pies in high school in like 2013/14. Maybe I’m misremembering but i just have this faint memory of the bubbly crust which was amazing. So sad that they don’t have those anymore
Thank you for making your videos. I have been cooking and baking for about 50 years and love it all. My Italian grandmother taught me how to cook and make bread and my Hungarian/German/Austrian side taught me how to bake. Your videos bring me so much joy and you are a lover of the craft and super talented.
The editing has been so fun on your videos. It has been fun to watch your channel grow and change. Love that you’re leaning into the cats and filming intros at the fast food restaurant. Thanks for all you do!!!
In the uk we still fry the pies as full pockets of apple filling!! we have also had promotional seasonal pies like the white chocolate and raspberry pie or a milk chocolate ganache pie
Adding bitters to pie filling is genius! I'm sure it's a thing but I'd never heard of it before and my mind is expanding, every time I watch your videos I always learn so much about baking and you always give such good technical advice, like chopping apples and I think I could use that with potatoes too! Anyway, you're awesome, just wanted to say how much I appreciate you and your skill.

In those moments, it’s like we’re part of your craft.
Love watching this series and was thinking back to before Claire did this on her own channel. Its so nice to see her actually enjoy doing this and look considerably less stressed lol. I think this series is successful bc its the comfort of a cooking video like what i grew up with in Martha Stewart and the like but theres no pre-prepared dish waiting in the oven, and the trail and error is interesting to watch. I also like hearing Claire talk about the ingredients in the original dishes and why they're there. I feel like i learned a lot from the ice cream recreate. I hadn't even thought to look at the packaging of ice cream and making sure it even says "ice cream" and not "dairy treat" so i enjoy her breaking down those ingredients as well as the ones she uses in her process.
Ireland still has the fried versions and they look way more appetising than these ones 😂 they sometimes release different flavours like double dark choc and dark choc raspberry, all as the fried type of pie. My mom has ordered 10-15 at once and stuck them in the freezer.
I love this so much. I love the asmr moments, I love the lack of annoying music that so many cooking videos feel the need to attack us with. Don't change anything, just keep making videos.
As someone who enjoys collecting cookbooks. Is there any chance we could get like a top 5 baking or a top 10 baking/nonbaking favorites list? Could be ones you reach for the most, or ones that inspired you in your formative years at culinary school, etc! That would be lovely
I use to watch the older videos years ago on the old channel that will not be named... the nostalgia and joy i just felt finding this video and realizing that i have years to catch up is insane. Huge shoutout to Claire and the team. cant wait to watch them all
I long for Claire's videos, specially the recreation ones 😍🤩 love you Claire, your awesome personality is a splash of warmth and positive energy, thank you for your hardworking 🤗🤗🤍
This is the way I was introduced to Claire on that other channel. She was my favorite chef there and I'm happy to have rediscovered her here! One of the celebrities I'd love to meet in person.
Not a recreates idea but I’d LOVE to see a video that documents the process of developing a recipe for a cookbook! It would be so interesting how you come up with the idea, pick your angle, and modify the recipe to get there ❤
I'm glad you're doing these kinds of videos again. Watching you deconstruct and rebuild recipes is legitimately a big part of why I fell in love with baking.
I am so glad Claire has brought back the recreated episodes. I am fascinated by the problem solving and her ingenuity. These apple pies look delicious. Claire so glad you are doing what you are doing on your own terms. You look so happy and at ease.😊
I would love to see Claire venture out of just pastries. I’m thinking back to pocky, almond joy, and combos that didn’t already have a common homemade counterpart.
@@gozerthegozarian9500I don’t see how they could switch to a baked version on the European market tbh. Like at least here in Germany any cheap grocery store bakery would have a better Apple pie than that. Being fried sets them apart from that as something unique you can only get at McDonald’s
From all the videos that Claire has made since her time at BA, it would be interesting to see her recreate Blow pops and the Tootsie roll pops. Im sure on the surface it seems easy but Im sure Claire would blow us away (no pun intended) with all the components and techniques needed to achieve this. Either way keep them coming I feel like regardless of what is done theres always so much I learn from every video!
I know that these aren't nostalgic American snacks but would love to see you try and do Jaffa Cakes which are a British snack - they're a small cake/cookie with an orange jelly layer, and then a chocolate top.
These pastries hold a special place in my heart. My dad cleaned as a janitor on his days off from firefighting, and sometimes if a Saturday was a building where I could come along and help, he would thank me by buying me one of these McDonalds Apple Pies. It was so cool to see Claire create a beautiful homemade one!
My almost 20 year old cat died in April, but my arm still has the burn marks from trying to maneuver a sheet tray into the oven while not completely opening the door, because her ancient ladyship was in the way.
I truly feel like this is one of your greatest successes in all of Gourmet Makes and Recreates. Not only does it look like the original, it looks significantly better and I have no doubt it tastes leaps and bounds better too. I think I'm going to try to make these myself!
The company that makes McD's pies is actually a very awesome company. Very cool history. Women owned and privately held to this day. They make about 1.5 million hand pies a day. It was cool to see Claire take a crack at it.
the best part about mcd's pies for me is that it's accidentally vegan. As much as butter makes an amazing pastry, having a plant-based treat option at mcd's is awesome. I get that you use butter, but I know there's a HUGE vegan audience that would love to see you recreate something purposely or accidentally vegan and/or share a vegan dessert recipe that's up to your standards!! Love youuu :)
Not related to this particular episode, but if I could bring one person on an island to survive with, I would bring Claire. She seems so resourceful AND can build a pizza oven
lofthouse frosted sugar cookies. they were my all time favorite growing up, the texture of the sugar cookie and the frosting. or entenmann's pop'ems donut holes, I could eat a whole box
I really enjoyed this episode. I’m often scared of experimenting in baking and sticking to written recipes, but this episode made the recipe look super achievable by simply reusing repurposing different techniques and recipes to create a new one.
Claire, make Whoopie Pies! They’re delicious, but I’m never happy with the filling when I make them at home. Is it marshmallow? Is it buttercream? It seems like a hybrid! However I try to make it, it just doesn’t seem quite right. Obviously not for this series, but just in general.
The fried pies were so delicious. Sometimes I dream I am eating one. 😢 I absolutely love watching Claire making dough in the food processor because you can see the flour change color when the butter is added and then the mixture also changes again when the water is added. I would like to see Claire make the Hostess Pudding Pie because I have such fond memories of eating them as a kid (and Hostess doesn’t make them anymore)!
You should try to attempt the fried ones! This was so good, it's so mesmerizing watching someone who is a complete expert in their field do their job, such an amazing video, thank you Claire
In the same vein as this one, I'd love to see Claire take on the Holiday Pie from McDonald's. The pastry is more like a sugar cookie and it has that custard filling. These videos are so relaxing now that they aren't designed to cause Claire as much stress as possible, which is sometimes how the original conceit of this felt on the other channel. Now they feel like someone who is very much in their element breaking down how to achieve a mass-produced effect from home baking/cooking.
I tried out the Onion Galette and it was sooo good. Your recipes really transformed me into the resident cook/baker for my roommates and I love it and i think they love it even more 😂
Yay, you took my suggestion! 🤩 I'm sure a million other people also suggested the McDonald’s Apple Pie, but I'm gonna pretend like you only read my comment 😅
I love that you are recreating things again, there’s just something so satisfying seeing these classic treats being homemade with love and flavour. I wonder if you have ever made Tim tams? Would be so great to see you make the Aussie/English classic even better, and see if you can still do a “Tim tam slammer” with your homemade biscuits. (A Tim tam slammer is basically biting off both ends of the biscuit or opposite corners and then dunking one side in a hot chocolate or milk and drinking it up like a straw till the tim tam is soft and melty all the way through then you down the softened biscuit. (I think Claire will probably hate it 😂 but it’s amazing and us aussies love it))
Claire- thank you so much for your videos. I found you through NY Times cooking and have stuck with your content ever since. Love your baking books too. You make baking and cooking fun and inviting. I had no idea what I was doing but really wanted to get in to the art of it all and you helped to make that possible. I see at the end of this video you are open to ideas for more videos like this. My mom and I love the little Debbie Christmas tree cakes. They are crazy sweet but somehow amazing! If you find this idea interesting my mom and I would love to see you create these with your own touch of being less artificial and more home made. Thank you again for being so kind and thoughtful.
12:50 - This is hugely vindicating. I also add cocktail bitters to recipes, especially apple-pie (in my case, whiskey bitters often makes an appearance).
Thx Claire. I made a gluten-free version of the apple pie. The filling is excellent. I don't normally cook an apple pie filling. I even piped it out of a bag like you did. I may jazz up my next apple crisp with some of your pie filling upgrades.🍏
Love seeing Claire know what she's doing and succeeding at making better versions of things I've never even eaten. Maybe it's cos she's just *too* good, but I'd love to see a bit more trial and error so I can learn about the process of this didn't rise like I wanted it to so I'll add beaten egg whites etc.

My almost 20 year old cat died in April, but my arm still has the burn marks from trying to maneuver a sheet tray into the oven while not completely opening the door, because her ancient ladyship was in the way.

This is probably one of her best recreations , The minipies look so good
I love the camera subtly following the kitty lol
I truly feel like this is one of your greatest successes in all of Gourmet Makes and Recreates. Not only does it look like the original, it looks significantly better and I have no doubt it tastes leaps and bounds better too. I think I'm going to try to make these myself!
The company that makes McD's pies is actually a very awesome company. Very cool history. Women owned and privately held to this day. They make about 1.5 million hand pies a day. It was cool to see Claire take a crack at it.
Claire nailed it once again....with hers looking much better.
the best part about mcd's pies for me is that it's accidentally vegan.
Why not put any cinnamon in the dough as well? Would you ever put brown sugar in the dough or would it alter the color too much?
Putting more sugar in the crust would change the baking properties.
This!! Great veg take
Couldn't agree more! 🌱🫶
Is l-cysteine vegan? Might be animal-derived.
I dont know why but i find these kinds of episodes so engaging and soothing.
Not related to this particular episode, but if I could bring one person on an island to survive with, I would bring Claire. She seems so resourceful AND can build a pizza oven
This is the most respectful a RUclipsr has ever been in a fast food drive thru
lofthouse frosted sugar cookies. they were my all time favorite growing up, the texture of the sugar cookie and the frosting. or entenmann's pop'ems donut holes, I could eat a whole box
I really hope she's planning a cookbook on all these recreates. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Auntie Annes soft pretzels would be fun!
Thank you for the bitters idea. Can’t wait to try that in my next pie!
You should try to attempt the fried ones! This was so good, it's so mesmerizing watching someone who is a complete expert in their field do their job, such an amazing video, thank you Claire
Kings Hawaiian Rolls!!!! Please claire!
Perfect as always. Also, compliments on Claire's skincare! She's glowing
the apple pie in england is still so nice! crispy bubbly pastry with a yummy filling!
Your recipes really transformed me into the resident cook/baker for my roommates and I love it and i think they love it even more 😂
The apple-slicing tip is something I've been searching for my whole life without even knowing. 🤯 Thank you!
Yay, you took my suggestion! 🤩 I'm sure a million other people also suggested the McDonald’s Apple Pie, but I'm gonna pretend like you only read my comment 😅
As an avid mcdonald’s apple pie lover for years…..switching to baking them has made them DELICIOUS
I made your apple tart on Sunday - can't wait to try this one too! I have a ton of apples from our trees this year.
i love this series sooo much!! i would love to see the crew’s reaction to the bakes as well!!!
9:05 The way Kitty thought about knocking that ruler off, then decided to leave it! 😂😂😂😂
adding bitters to a pie filling is genius, all the spices make so much sense
I wish Claire and Rosanna Pansino would collaborate! I think they would both have a lot of fun!
(I think Claire will probably hate it 😂 but it’s amazing and us aussies love it))
York Peppermint Patties!
I miss the old Mickey D’s apple pie but I’m definitely going to try to recreate it like you did
My favorite part of this series is how excited Claire is to make everything
12:50 - This is hugely vindicating. I also add cocktail bitters to recipes, especially apple-pie (in my case, whiskey bitters often makes an appearance).
Thx Claire. I made a gluten-free version of the apple pie. The filling is excellent. I don't normally cook an apple pie filling. I even piped it out of a bag like you did. I may jazz up my next apple crisp with some of your pie filling upgrades.🍏
GOURMAKES!
... I won't rest until I hear someone tell me why no one has used that portmanteau.
this series is so darn good, I love learning from Claire!
Claire looks soooo beautiful in this episode! I mean she’s always pretty but especially so today!
Yay! I love getting a peek into how Claire’s big brain works! Great episode.
The true gourmet pie is the old fry pie.
Boycott!!!
I've been really enjoying the evolution of how y'all edit this series. Very entertaining!
