- Tales from the Okefenokee was a dark ride at Six Flags Over Georgia from 1967 - 1980. This second version of the ride began in 1968 and features the critters from Joel Chandler Harris' Uncle Remus stories.
Obviously this ride was a cute family ride, but the way this old footage is edited together, and the odd discordant music, makes it rather creepy.
This is my favorite David Lynch film.
I remember the carrots's compressed air sound and I remember "beware beware go back go back " before the swamp
That ride used to scare me to death when I was little! I think I kept my eyes closed most of the way through! lol
Because Sid and Marty Krofft were some weird dudes, dude. Keep in mind that they're the ones responsible for H.R. Pufnstuf and Sigmond and the Sea Monsters.

I wouldn't go near it as a kid. I was afraid of the dark, I think I made my parents promise not to make me ride it. I remember it like it was yesterday.
The actual music used in the ride was more dixieland than this psycho-techno riff. The dark ride had been redesigned by the Kroffts. It was a lot of fun at the time.
Yea. There was once "The World of Sid and Marty Krofft" at the Omni in Atlanta. They had something real close to this back in the mid 1970s, But had their own characters.
They were opened for six months to a year and then they had to close because their attraction was not popular.
i heard they closed because the area had wino's and hookers it's been said it would have lasted longer if it was in buckhead
I remember Tales Of The Okefenokee ride too , but it could not compete with Disney Splash Mountain . Six Flags did it first before Disney !

Obviously I am, since I was born in 1990 and have lived in Western Canada for my entire life, I never would have heard about this ride any other way.

For a non disney park...yeah. I don't think a lot of people hate it, but rather enjoy the creepy vibe some of the weird looking figures give off. especially when their eyes move in impossible directions and the rest of their body remains still. This is similar to hallucinations people experience while on psychedelic drugs

The Monster Plantation was 'improved' in 2009, but it didnt' change names or even features. The park hyped up the improvements, which were embellished after experiencing the ride for yourself. Nothing had changed with the exception of a new photo cam feature and practically all of the characters were now working as opposed to the 80% or so in previous years. Basically, the improvements should have been made all along since the ride's inception, not just a big PR campaign to renew its recognition
Lol it was made not racist in 2009. Which is why it changed from plantation to mansion. That's about the time we really cared about the losing side's statues and how they needed to go away.

Splash Mountain is actually less creepy bc the character designs aren't that scary as this one. I think it is bc this ride is older.
@@ThatMelonGirlWell of course they aren’t scary, two brothers named Sid and Marty Kroft worked and designed the characters for this ride, if you looked at their other creations they look rather unsettling, splash mountains only scary when you ride it late at night alone or the huge drops it has
@@SlushysSecret Or maybe it’s scary if the music and stuff is too loud for you. I’m not really a fan of noisy rides, a huge example is the Figment imagination one, which also has 2 of my misophonia triggers in it.

If you haven't already found it, I have the original eight-minute Tales of the Okefenokee "sample reel" that the footage in this video comes from on my channel. It contains shots of every scene except for the arsenal cave, and it isn't totally blurry and discolored like the footage here. My upload actually isn't the best in quality, but I have a download for the native-resolution version in the description.
What's the music it's interesting
"Sound Collider" by John Baker; you can see it in the description of the video. It's from some kind of bizarre seventies-inspired synth album from the 2000s. I've heard that the footage in the video comes from a documentary or promotional film from 1969, so I'm hoping I can track it down and upload it with its original audio intact.

Was the plantation house always the facade? If not, what was the facade for tales from the okefenokee?
I'm over a week late on this, but as it turns out, that depiction of the facade on the map is 100% false - it was nothing more than an early proof-of-concept illustration of what the ride's exterior may have been intended to look like at one point. In reality, the building housing the attraction was essentially just a huge, borderline-featureless wooden box constructed with vertical board-and-batten walls, the building itself largely being obscured by a series of tall decorative lattices and other garden-like structures which boxed in the queue area.

Does anybody know what happened to BrenBill's channel? He had uploaded what was essentially the full soundtrack to this ride, but about three or four days ago as of this comment, all of his videos went private or something and can't be viewed anymore. Yeah your right I finished editing the soundtrack because I’m making this for 2 reasons 1. This is for a friend and 2. I pitched it back and tried to edit with my lack luster skills I know I shouldn’t be using it anyway but I want to make it for my friends and you guys so you can see my talent as a Animatior I also made a joke in the script for when the characters talk before they get on the ride “The Animator wanted to get this out so that’s why the soundtrack is shorter then it should be” (looks at the camera) “Thanks” BTW why did you delete the comment
If you've seen my reply to AlTheGameFreak on the video featuring the 1967 version of the ride, I actually mention the uploads from Chuck's Dark Rides, which I think are particularly interesting for a number of reasons. First of all, even though the creator of the website seems to have contacted Tim Hollis (who runs a pop-culture museum and inexplicably owns the original audio reels for the ride), the quality of each upload is just absolutely appalling, and the fact that they're all pitched incorrectly doesn't help. Those files aren't exactly desirable, to say the least, but they're unfortunately the only thing we have until another breakthrough occurs. Secondly, there are countless instances of little bits and pieces of missing audio on that website, sometimes even major sections. The most egregious examples are the theme song that would play in the loading queue ("So the story goes in the Okefenokee..."), which the site only provides a measly little sixteen-second clip of (whereas the full song is supposedly a four whole minutes long going by the ride's DAFE article) and the first song from the Crow Quartet, which is missing altogether.
I wouldn't use any of the uploads from Chuck's Dark Rides for an animation, because until we have access to the original source audio again, we're basically just stuck with crude garbage. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea when we _will_ have access to the original audio again, and that's one of the main issues here. Even before BrenBill's video became private, I was trying to get my hands on it and attempt to make a video featuring it along with significant observations that I've made regarding both the ride and the audio. Aside from making three attempts to contact AlTheGameFreak to no avail, I've also tried asking CECArizona and BrenBill to re-upload the unedited audio files, because they seem like they have access to to them as well, but unfortunately I haven't gotten a reply out of anybody yet. At the very least, I'm finally getting to discuss this problem with someone again.
The reason my reply was deleted is because when I was trying to click the "Edit" button, I accidentally clicked "Delete" instead. Truly a tragic story, but I wrote another version immediately afterwards as you can see above.
It’s still I’m going to animate it and post it when the better audio comes out I will reupload it with the better audio is that a good deal? Since November I have been practicing drawing the characters so I finally want to make it after so long I fixed the pitching quite a bit it’s actually close to BrenBill’s but the quality is still bad but because it’s for fun and for my friend I think I’ll still do it
