My friend and I did this back when we were in 9th grade and we went on a school trip to Six Flags over GA. I was a wimp (still am; I only really ride roller coasters at Disney World lol) and too afraid to ride the big coasters. I did try Georgia Cyclone (this was back before it was turned into "Twisted Cyclone" so it didn't go upside down or anything, but on the other hand, it was quite a rough ride then). I was super proud of myself for doing a "real" coaster, but I wasn't too wild about doing it again or trying any of the other big ones. So we pretty much spent the day riding Mine Train over and over again. 😂 I also remember riding one of those scrambler rides but it was indoors and they played rock n' roll music on it. That one was fun. But I don't think it exists anymore and I don't remember what the name of it was.
I rememeber back in the early 2000s my mom used to always take me on this ride when I was a kid. I was too scared of rides back then, this was the only ride id ride. She passed away in 05 and I tear up everytime I watch a pov or get in line to ride it. I miss her and I'm glad they are taking care of this ride so I can share the same memories with my kids!
I rode this rollercoaster for the first time ever in 1986 at the age of 4. I am 41 now and have made sure to ride this every time I’ve gone to Six Flags Over Georgia.
@@giamiramontes5639 Yessss! Magic Mountain? My first roller-coaster in 1980 when I was 10--I was too scared to go on the Revolution or Colossus that day, so it remained my first coaster until I was 11 and went on the Colossus. I was still too scared of Revolution because of the loop, lol. It intertwined with the Log-Jammer water ride. Gold Rush is still there, or at least was when I last went to MM right before New Year's Eve 2019, but the Log-Jammer had been long removed, I found out. Unplanned, Gold Rush became my 9 year old son's first roller-coaster that day, but since the line was so short for Revolution, his second roller-coaster ride became that one. He was far braver than me at his age, and just for good measure, wanted to go on the Revolution right after, so we did it again.
For us that grew up going to SFOG, it’s a classic and we love it to death! Its not that fast and definitely not tall but jerks you around quite hard and that catches some ppl off guard. And everybody is tough until that last drop! 😂
It's fun. It's slow but a little faster than it looks in the video. It's got some jank to it. Especially in the finale tunnel, that' part is REALLY rough. Teeth cracker kind of rough haha. But it's fun
Clearly it's not for extreme thrills, but it seems charming and sort of relaxing! I love that it intertwines with the landscape and other park elements and kind of meanders through nature.
Ride opened June 16, 1967. I don't know how many times I have ridden it, must be in the 100s. I got muscle memory watching the video. I love it. The creosote smell, the jerkiness, the hat graveyard, the jerk at the top of the hills as the chain catches, the heavy lurching, my favorite ride ever. You have to be a bit tough to ride it, not for the dainty.
Best part was the end, looking at those gates. Rode it during the late 60s and early 70s. How many memories back then of standing in line for half-an-hour, waiting for the mine train.
Ground level roller coasters are rare it gives a different sense of speed being at ground level, even if this one is slow it’s a really cool cruiser coaster hugging the ground which is unique
The Mummy ride at Universal Studios was intense but when I saw the video of the ride with the lights on, my mind was blown. The coaster is close to the ground.
Like so many others who grew up in Georgia this was my introduction to the world of roller coasters and I still make a point of riding it every time I go to Six Flags
Such an underrated ride! I make sure to get on it every visit. Its just fun and chill, then it goes turbo mode at the end. That drop feels so fast after the previous slow and meandering pace of the ride.
I'm 61, and this coaster was around when I was a kid. It was the best ride at Six Flags, then. It was thrilling for a little kid, but not too scary. Later, the Scream Machine came along and this ride was relegated to second tier, but I still love it. As an adult, it's not thrilling, but it's still fun.
Very nice smooth ride for getting your kids to the next level after the dragon coaster. We had our kids on something like this when they were very young. They are now big ride lovers.
Yes! Happened to me too! I went from this (my first ever Rollercoaster) to The Riddlers MindBender to the Batman. For me the one that cracked me into loving big coasters was the MindBender.
The first coaster at six flags over Georgia. I still enjoy riding it when i go to that park. brings back so many memories. I hope they will always keep it and not tear it down to put something bigger and faster.
I like the part of the ride when it climbs that last big hill before going through that building sort of thing and really fast down into that tunnel! It gives an awesome pump of adrenaline :D
Just now read your description and noticed you asked about the name "Dahlonega". I believe it's in reference to the Georgia Gold Rush which started near or in the town of Dahlonega, Georgia in the early 1800's. Correct me if I'm wrong.
This the perfect roller coaster for the first time for kids. Has motion and speed but not too fast and a few tunnels to make it fun. I'd love to ride this. 😊😊😊😊😊
This is the very first roller coaster I rode. I think I was 5 or 6 so 54-55 years ago. It’s still the only roller coaster I don’t have a panic attack on. I love this coaster.
maybe it’s the nostalgia trip bc i’m not far from six flags over georgia, but i always loved how chill this coaster was. a great first coaster for kiddos too.
In 1969 - my first trip to the park - there was the "Big Dahlonega" (this one) and the "Little Dahlonega" for little kids. The bigger train had long lines and seemed to thrill people. Very tame today. But still iconic.
This ride is one of the most memorable coasters ive ever been on. Not because its the fastest, the most unique track layout or the smoothest ride ive been on (its definitely a little jerky lol), but i love this ride because of the memories i have with it. i grew up in georgia, still live here even to this day and when i was a kid i was absolutely terrified to ride rollercoasters. I used to get free tickets from the reading program my elementary school did, so we would get to go to the park every summer. My dad used to take me starting in 1st grade probably when i was around 7 years old and he suggested riding something new. I was always curious about rollercoasters i was just too scared to ride them especially with all the loops and stuff, so i asked him if there was anything smaller in the park that we could try out before riding bigger rollercoasters. Even to this day however.. everytime i go to this park, even though i like the bigger rides there a little more, i still have to ride this one several times throughout the day because of how nostalgic it is to me. if you're a kid looking for a ride to help you branch out into other rollercoasters and six flags over georgia is your home park, than this is the ride for you :)
It’s very janky, but the last drop diving into the tunnel is great! Good airtime in the back rows and an out of control feeling flying through the tunnel.
Riding this in the 70's and 80's was more fun because there were so many trees, bushes and vines. Every corner turn was blind and that gave it a feeling of faster speeds. They had major repairs and some track replacements done in the 90's and that's when they removed everything around the tracks.
Still have a soft spot for this one + that "classic" Arrow lift/ anti-roll back sound. definitely love the original @ Six Flags Over Texas. Met Ed Morgan years ago at IAAPA Expo.

That last drop into the mine shaft at the end is more intense than it seems.
The screaming from the passengers and the roaring from the coaster echoes really loudly and it has a nice bit of g-force to it as well
Once upon a time it was total darkness. It left you completely disoriented!
Real, here they made it look so slow and happy. When in reality it’s like out of your seat a little if you don’t brace yourself it’s so fast.
