But both are just insane experiences. You've got to hand it to Arrow for their creativity and ambition with X (though perhaps it was too ambitious for their own good.) And you've got to applaud whoever at Intamin decided that after a giga coaster drop they would use all of that speed and direct it into a tight turnaround instead of using it for a tall airtime hill or inversion. I guess they figured people would want to know what is like to ride in a NASA simulator.

    As a British enthusiast, this video really made me realise just how behind my country is when it comes to rollercoasters. We're on our knees for an RMC and our tallest coaster is 213ft tall (that'll change next year, but it's still not even going to break the 250 mark). Still, I do get unreasonably excited and proud whenever Theme Park Crazy mentions one of our coasters, they ain't much but we still love em!

      @ChrisCooper312 Год назад +1

      For a small country I don't think we do bad. We've got a good mix of decent modern coasters, and plenty of true classics. A lot of the issue is that unlike the US we don't have lots of space. That means building bigger or longer coasters is harder. Also, parks being typically smaller have to make their coasters have a wider appeal. A super intense ride that all but the hardcore will find one go more than enough is fine when you've got lots of other rides, but not so much when it's the main attraction.
      I think it's just a shame that we can't replicate the heady days of the 90s when we had the likes of Oblivion, Nemesis and The Big One all opening within a few years.

    I think the definition of intense is how much a coaster throws at you in a short time. With that in mind, I'd say The Nemesis and Smiler do a good job of packing a lot of features into a small space.

      I remember being at Cedar Point around the time it first opened. Never rode it though, as I seen the train got stuck going up the first hill. Being stuck on the first hill after leaving the station is my worst fear for coasters. The Magnum Xl-200 is the highest I think I've been on and the Raptor is probably the most intense.
      Sadly I'm at that age where I don't think I can handle intense roller coasters anymore.

    There are two wood coasters at Mt Olympus in Wisc Dells that literally pull the air from your chest. A third less intense but super rickety and forceful. I have several friends who absolutely will never ride them again because “it was just way too much”. There’s no trim breaks and they just let them rip. Completely overlooked and under appreciated in the industry. They are nuts.

      Hades 360 is well-known as the first Gravity Group rollercoaster, paving the way for Voyage, as well as being one of the few inverting wooden rollercoasters in the world, and its insane pre-lift and underground sections.
      Although, it's also known as an insanely rough ride, and Mt Olympus has a reputation for being somewhat sketchy.
      The other rollercoasters at Mt Olympus are more overlooked. The only one I know the name of is Pegasus, and that's only because of its insanely uncomfortable, lateral-filled turn into the final brakes.

    I had just decided to face a long time phobia of thrill rides, and rode my first real rollercoaster (Dejà Vu, at Six Flags, Magic Mountain) around the time X2 opened. After my knees stopped shaking and I no longer felt like throwing up, I decided I was up for more, ao my friemds dragged me on to X2. That was my second rollercoaster ever (besides kiddie coasters), and, I'm honestly surprised I didn't just quit right there and never ride another. It was quite an introduction.
    The only rollercoaster since then that really blew me away was Xcellerator at Knotts Berry Farm. That nearly vertical twist as you're racing to the top is so disorienting and just blew me away the first few times I rode it.

    Have ridden Iron Gwazi over 40 times. On a hot summer day in August, this coaster runs out of control. Have had over 50 runs on Velocicoaster. The top hat after the second launch will throw you out of the seat on a hot day. What I love about this ride is it just gradually builds up throughout the ride to one of the best finales in the world. In August, this coaster is pure magic. I'm so glad I live in Florida. Been on steel vengeance over a dozen times and it's unbelievable. Both days I spent at Cedar point it was in the high 50's during the day. Im sure in mid summer it's a real treat. Hope it will be warmer when I visit the last week of August this yr. Countdown begins be there August 26th with my running shoes and a fast pass for 3 days of bliss. Can't wait.
