Great video - Great tips! Consider having a video-casting, where each actor sends in a clip of their monologue/scene first. This is especially helpful, if they are for further away. Once you have chosen a few actors according to their video, invite them for a one-on-one casting, where you explore, if they can react to your direction. Maybe even have them do a small improv scene, to see what they can come up with on the spot and in character - can give you great insight into their talent.
I just really love how clever your videos are. Your explanations are so simple and clear that it really makes things not seem too difficult, which results in me finding things less difficult. This video came spot on, since I am having a meeting this week with a someone for a role in my next short film. The monologue idea is very, very great, especially because you let them analyze the character on paper! Great stuff! Keep it up with your clever, unique videos!
Cheers Luca! Glad we can help. We really like the monologue idea because of what you said, let them analyze the character on paper. That way you can really see if they understand the script. If they give you 50% of the character you wanted, you already know they can read and dissect the script. Sometimes this method lets you see an actor's ability a lot more than reading lines from the script.
Great tips guys! For our feature film Porcelain Presence we used a mixture of in person auditions and video auditions to cast, for people further away, & our favourite casting sites to use are Star Now, Mandy, and Casting Call Pro. Have you guys ever had people apply randomly from all over the world, - doesn't matter what we seem to write in the castings, even if it says for example, - local to Birmingham or London, we still get people applying from Spain, Portugal, America for example, - madness!
Great vid sir. Im always looking for advice from fellow students on how to cast and find locations. Seems to be the most challenging aspect, esp. when ive got 2 weeks to get it done
Thanks for this video. I am in the process of starting a indiegogo so I can fund my first film. I am working with a friend of mine. I know little about casting and this video helped a lot. I don't live anywhere near the area filming and I will be looking for local talent out there.
It's insane how few viewers yall have.
Such useful advice just as always! Stuff like this makes me so eager to start new projects and put the new knowledge into practice!
Glad we can help!

Awesome tips, thanks! Haven't done video-casting before but its definitely something we'll consider in the future.

Haha yes! We had some people from Romania interested. Sadly, we couldn't pay for their expenses. Not yet, anyway!
Haha, one day we will all be able to! Lol
I love when you ask someone to send in a video or a resume, then they don't respond back.Yikes
thanks for the advise, I was looking for how to cast actors for a non-dialogue film...This helps

Favorite Nicholas Cage movie?
Face/Off
Mandy and Leaving Las Vegas. Raising Arizona was awesome too.
Anyone ever tell you that you resemble Tom Holland?
Almost every day haha
Yes he does! lol
my stuff has no dialog & low budget is an under statement lmao.but if you want to do action films & can not find anyone to help.just do it yourself.
It really helps if youre in film school or taking classes or in a club. Going alone is the hardest route imo. Film is such a collaborative effort
Background music is too high
He looks like Tom Holland
So I've been told!
Great tips. If you're also interested in hiring an actual Casting Director, hit me up!
