"Wow. Okay hello," Strongly relatable. Amazing story, and film. Make note guys, this isn't about the "luck" he had for having a distant tie to a world-class actor (we all probably do). His film was actually great, before Jude made any appearance. This is the thing. You have to actually get REALLY good at something, and to do that you have to be obsessive a lot of the time, maybe quit your day job etc., it isn't a luck or talent thing, it's a numbers game. You either have the creative aesthetic or you don't, you know that before you even start trying. It took Colin six years to create this piece of work, keep THAT in mind above all else. Stay dedicated to your craft, become truly great at it, then reach for the damned stars. Until then, roll up your sleeves, make something good, like Colin.

Alternative method: Don't get to know anyone, or write any e-mails. Just write the role so you can use footage of them as you hide in their bushes. "Woah, this guy got shots of Will Smith, Sean Connery, and Ben Affleck! It's strange that they're all drone footage from really high up and their only lines are 'yeah, i'll have a mcBLT' " Then again, I've won multiple awards for my tasteful rear nude shots of Jamie Fox in a shower, which I digitally added scars and blood to be from the epic battle he was in (while wearing a full suit and helmet!). When I was 10 years old I was a huge fan of the sci-fi series V. I was awestruck by Diana (the evil alien queen). When I got to film school I cast an actress from a play I was invited to see (as her audition) and I met Jane (Diana) there - she was in the play too. The next two years at film school she was in both my student films (for free). I know this feeling. I was giddy for 5 years after!
It’s mad how down to earth people are. I’ve just wrapped on my new feature film the black spot and it’s unreal the amount of support I’ve had from people I’ve looked up to for years. From Film directors appearing in the film and some of my favorite rappers making the theme song. Never be afraid to email people!

I haven't tried this myself, but I have heard/read somewhere that a good method of getting an A-List celebrity to appear in a shorther even a full length feature film, is to find actors/actresses who haven't been in a film for a while. Such celebrities are keen to be seen on the screen, and if the project is something that they feel will further their career, they will be most likely to be interested in working with a good project. An actor/actress who is seen in any good role, will boost their chances of being cast in a future Hollywood film. It helps for a producer and/or director to have a portfolio of short films, that the celebrities may be interested in seeing, to get an idea of your works and the quality of the other talent you hire for your projects, and the effectiveness of your production values, look of your films, the sound engineering and directing skills.
Well done Colin. Absolutely amazing getting such a famous and great actor to appear in your movie. I was really impressed by your movie. Looking forward to the next one!
The fact he saw it and went for it meant he liked it. He’s not a starving actor needing to expand his reel, and actors of his caliber won’t risk being in a shit project with little to no pay. It’s not like he had a lot to do, but still.
Never seen your videos before nor have I heard from you, but just watching this makes me so DAMN happy for you! As an artist myself I can see how terrifying it is to make these leaps of faith, especially after putting a lot of work into a project. I wonder whether Jude Law was immediately your first choice, or whether there was a lot of trial and error regarding finding that A-list celeb. Regardless, I'm sure your efforts will bring you a crap-ton of success, which you deserve every bit of.

@@JohnDlugosz What do you mean by that? Has CBS done something to limit production of Star Trek fan films? You can still find plenty of fan films online.
"People who know me know I have no money..." - Flies to London, makes a passion project his full time project for six years. Still an awesome thing though. But if he has no money, I have many thousands of negative money.
Most of those six years, his full-time job was as a Layout Artist at Pixar. He only left the company in the final phase of completing the project.
Oh god, that's why I love the world of independent films.
Making 10-minute movie for 6 years...
hooray...
"Wow.
Okay hello,"
Strongly relatable.
I still remember you taking the time to look over my own little film project at Blender Conference and give me some fantastic notes - you're awesome at this human making films bit and you deserve all the success that Skywatch brings you and much more!
Just watched your short film - loved it and hope for a sequel..... and kudos for enticing an ‘A’ list actor into a cameo at the end.
This is an amazing example on how following your passion gets you there... An inspiration for everyone, not only aspiring movie makers. You will be directing your first big budget feature film soon man, no doubts about that!
Good for you for having the guts to make the most of this connection and not backing down from your goal. It is inspiring to see people chase their dreams and not give up.
[Django Unchained 3062: Unchained Again, coming to theaters soon!]
Man, you definitely deserve that cause bro, what a filme (and doesn’t matter that it is short or anything)!!! I’m standing with basically everyone who have watched the short film: just keep waiting for the chance to see it full, in a theater or in a tv show, anyway that it come, in just wanna watch it full. Congrats.
6 years, don't give up and then you give us a small ,fine peace of entertainment.
Great job Colin ! Remember your first work (with blender) years ago were looking very promising - and my thought's were right.
I think you had a really good crew around to do so - even talented actors !
Again, congrats to you and your team
Jude is an awesome actor and you are a great director. I am impressed by the amount of thoughts and hard work that you put in that short scene at the end. It is inspiring and your success proves you right. Keep up the good work and all the best!
Jude didn't do you a favour. He was hedging his bets. Anyone can tell you're going to be major Hollywood director.
He’s playing the long game
@Mr. Holliday His film is really good, though
but he did do him a favour if we take your scenario so he can use it in the future? He can just come up and say hey boy you own me one.
@Mr. Holliday Jesus, way to take someone else's nice compliment and absolutely shit on it.
They both gained something, it's some degree of good publicity for him, after everyones massive burst of appreciation towards Keanu Reeves other celebs (the smart ones) might be trying to step up their game lol they don't become world famous loved celebs just by breathing air after all
Actually my friend, I didn't know you before this video but I'm totally glad that you achieved your goal. 6 years is really long time to shot a movie man, but i can imagine what kind of struggles you've seen in this path. You could easily lose your positive energy but it seems like you didn't :) I think this was the reason whatever happens. Good energy first :)
Or go onto the actor’s IMDb page, sign up for VIP membership and contact the agent.
Impressive - most impressive :)
Alternate approach: LIE. LIE TO EVERYONE ABOUT EVERYTHING!
I'm a legendary detective.
Nooooooo!🤨
Literally 50% of how to get anything done in Hollywood, I suspect.
@@Sgt_Glory the other half of the battle is knowing.......GI Joe.
Worked pretty good for Quentin Tarantino
It’s mad how down to earth people are. I’ve just wrapped on my new feature film the black spot and it’s unreal the amount of support I’ve had from people I’ve looked up to for years. From Film directors appearing in the film and some of my favorite rappers making the theme song. Never be afraid to email people!
When Jude popped up, I wasn't too surprised... considering the polish of the work that preceded his appearance. :) Nice work and thanks for the little bonus(s).
You worked on this for 6 years. You have bragging rights for life for all your hard work and patience, indeed.
Wow, you actually got Jude!
I remember him from my childhood favorite film AI. He's an amazing actor, glad to hear you got to work with him, I know your work is already time consuming...
Almost makes me wish I knew a friend who knew a guy who knew a guy who knew you... 😭 😭 😭
Happy for you Colin!
May God bless you and your film career ❤
It's great Jude agreed to do it because he was perfect for the part.
This was in my recommended feed before I saw the short. But I'm super glad it was because I watched the short and it's awesome!
Hugely entertaining and interesting! Here's the thing, though: What has Jude Law himself said about your film? Or no feedback yet?
Don't skip Step #5!!!
Benicio Del Toro was asked this question. His response?
"Ask."
Im pretty impressed that you got Jude Law to be in your short film but considerably mire impressed that you got him to use an american accent
Damn! Jude Law at the end gave me almost the Keanu in Cyberpunk level of surprise.
This is incredibly wholesome and amazing. Congratulations on your project and kudos to Jude for helping you complete it!
this video popped up on my recommended without me even knowing of the existence of ur stort film so im eternally grateful for the recommend page today
I just surf on YT to research another inspiration theory for my daydreams project. Then, it leads me to see you guys short film, which makes me speechless for how you guys worked on this project. It’s amazing and inspired me a lot !! Respect and thank you
What if I have no friends and suck at social interactions? :(
Get a hot friend to do it for you.
deepfake
Then dont become a director u idiot.
@@shidoshihanzo9819 Wow, you must be a nice person to hang out with.
@@jan861 He should have said it more elegently than that but he is right, to make a film you need to have many connections and know a lot of people. So not to put you down, i would suggest that you pursue another medium of expression in which only talent is required like painting or writing for instance.
It's absolutely incredible that you pulled this off and made such a professional product. Congratulations.
You seem like a genuine person, I can really appreciate your style and honesty. I also loved your movie, no need for the imposter syndrome, you are very very talented. Maybe you could send one of those personal videos to Netflix. I mean, you already have Jude Law on board right :p Lets make this a series! 10/10 would watch
watching this video made me very happy idk why maybe because i saw you had put a lot of work on it for so long! made my day that you were happy with the final result! just amazing man
This guy really reminds me of Olaf, or some other A-list actor...
Congrats. I was shocked to see Law in the cameo and then saw your short on how you got him. We look for sports figures to do brief 8 second audio leads and we ask lots of people. We get ignored a lot and told no a lot but we have some pretty good voice overs so never say never. Well done (loved your short as well).
It was great to see Jude Law Thank u so much. The glowing thing u added in his eyes just instantly took me to his roles in A.I & Gataca. Fine performance from the rest of the actors as well.
Gave me “Blade Runner” replicant vibes.
I think that being critical of oneself is the best quality of being a good director. You're doing a good job!
Took you SIX YEARS just to make a short!?
NO WONDER I haven't made any shorts yet.
Well from what i can tell is he used a lot of special effects and had a small team working on it. Remember some small game devs take that long sometimes to make a game. Visual effects with a small team take fucking forever to do
Just buy shorts from the store
@@usernamesmatter LOL! That would be A LOT faster!
Your friend’s friends must have pretty good friends.
Seriously, this was the one thing I kept wondering about. Great explanation. (And yes, I was figuring that you were "connected." Thanks for clearing this up.)
Humbling video - dont know why RUclips recommended this but I am glad it did. All the best for 2020!
found out about you from Ryan Connolly. Your short was amazing! Excited to see where your career goes!
As Colin said, these actors are mortals afterall, and these actors we all love and cherish, have been in drama school or what not, they love a good pitch, they love challenges to potray a chracter & if you give them enough direction,; depending on their scheduling. They will respond via their mediums.
Love this video. Thank you for using your great sense of humor and fun storytelling way to answer the question that we all had.
You’re awesome, so you get to work with awesome people.
He IS awesome :)
Thank you for sharing this. The story behind this of how you pulled this off is pretty amazing!
those career highlights were humbling. He is way legit. I've been watching some interviews lately and must say, those British have something extra. Standouts this week were Tom Holland and Henry Cavill. Jude Law though has way more range and so much more history. I didn't even realize
He’s also older and more experienced, give it time.
The amount of work you have out into this is insane
