    I am a 63 year old who left the Catholic Church forty years ago. Before leaving, my dad asked me to join him at the church one night where there was this group of people who were visiting our church in the hopes of healing people. I had been suffering from increasingly debilitating migraine headaches. It got to the point where I would lose sight and the only relief was to somehow try and sleep. I remember suffering an episode in the middle of winter when at college and laying in the snow under a tree because I had nowhere else to sleep. At the end of the service, these folks asked if anyone needed to be healed. It didn't even occur to me to go up there but my father prodded me and so I did. Haven't had a migraine since.
    Just saying.

    Between the sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Orders, how feasible is it to think of confirmation as a sort of “ordination” of the laity?

    • @JesusMary_I_Loveyousavesouls
      @JesusMary_I_Loveyousavesouls Год назад +2

      No the laity aren't ordained. Only the ministerial priests are ordained. However through baptism, we share in the priesthood, kingship and prophet hood of Christ and we are supposed to prophecy by sharing His words (Scripture/good news gospel)
      We will reign with Him Romans 8:16-17
      And we are also lay priests and can offer prayers to Our heavenly Father through Jesus Christ and even offer Christ Himself especially through the Divine Mercy Chaplet.
      God bless

    • @killianmiller6107
      @killianmiller6107 Год назад

      My thought is that both Confirmation and Holy Orders include the laying on of hands and anointing oil. It seems to me then that the priesthood we share with Christ through baptism is first ordained spiritually for the universal priesthood through confirmation wherein we are sealed in the Holy Spirit. This doesn’t mean the confirmed have a mission to administer the sacraments, but it does impart a mission. If it’s your vocation, this ordination is fully sacramental (visible) for the ministerial priesthood.
      I just wonder if this nuance is feasible in sacramental theology.

    • @markv1974
      @markv1974 Год назад

      @@killianmiller6107 kinda like that. Confirmation is where you recieve the gifts of the holy spirit. Kinda like the tools you need for your vocation. We are all God’s instruments.

      @@wolfthequarrelsome504 Women used to be deacons in the early Church. Whether they were anointed to this position, I don't know and I don't think so. But female deacons did exist to assist bishops with cases involving women. If someone was beating his wife, for instance, the bishop couldn't examine the woman's wounds, thus these female deacons would do it.

    Good stuff. But there's more to be examined. In order for Jesus to be recognized as a teacher in Judaism he needs teaching authority or semikhah as Dr. Brants mentioned. So how did Jesus get his semikhah? You thought that a sinless Jesus was baptized by John? Nope. Jesus tells John that it must be done to fulfill all righteousness which is to conform to the Jewish requirements. John gave Jesus his semikhah in the Jordan by laying hands on him along with the Holy Spirit as you generally need two to confer semikhah. And how do we know that it worked? The people recognized him as a teacher with authority when they said that Jesus taught with authority and not as the scribes. Scribes could only teach what other teachers with authority taught. Thus the laying on of hands indicates a person that has teaching authority. Oh and btw, how do we know that this is true. When Jesus was questioned as to where he received his teaching authority he responded with 'where did John get his teaching authority." Or, I got it from John.

  • @vinb2707

    Amen. When you listen to the arguments listed by MacArthur, you realize that he has a poor understanding of the early church. What he is does is interpret the scriptures apart from any real honest analysis of the very Church that extends from the Apostles themselves. This is the same mistake that I once made as so many still do today.
    And so once you do away with the truths passed down from the apostles to those in whom they laid hands on, whom then laid hands on their successors, you can then espouse a historical view that is, believe it or not, unbiblical.

      Trinity God describes the fullness of God.
      WIthout the one in three persons, without the three persons in one, God would not create, not love and not teach and guide.
      While the Father loves, He creates for His begotten Son from eternity on, He has begotten the Son, whom He loves by reflecting Himself,
      He, the Son loves the Father because the love is responded by Him, He the Son also is the obedient, thte grace calling God, while God is giving everything to the Son.
      Together the Father and the Son are together in the same, the Holy Spirit, who is "induced" by the Son's interaction with the Father.
      The Holy Spirit of the Father and the Son, is present all the time by the justice, the grace and the love of God for all creation - especially for man.
      This fact hast been revealed by Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God. Even Abraham had a clue about this revelation, when three men met him at Mambre.
      Thus there is no mathematical problem, because God, the Trinity God is greater than everything,
      Math is only a gift for us to work with, but incapable to reduce Him to a simple 1 unequal 3 statement.

      @@stephanmariahitzel6102 Don't waste your time with Muslims. They've been conditioned to paste and copy. The next question you'll get is where does Jesus say he is God and to worship me in the bible. So how do we know that Allah is not God? Well, first Allah somehow got it wrong for Muhammad who said that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was the sister of Moses and Aron. Duh. Also, when Muhammad was fighting with two of his many wives he had to call on Allah, Jibril and all of the believers to put two women in their place.... Seems Allah was not powerful enough alone. I could go on and on but you get the picture.
