Hobie Mirage Lynx: One Word SMART!
HTML-код

- I was up in Boise Idaho the other day delivering a batch of boats and I noticed they had the brand new Hobie Mirage Lynx. I was able to take it for a quick test drive to see how it performed. Although the price seems high for what you're getting, the layout and idea behind this boat are smart! Lots of stability, smooth handling and the ability to upgrade. I also cant say enough about how light and easy to handle this kayak is compared to an Outback or Vibe Shearwater. Hobie knows their market well and they always seem to flush out the holes in it. The Lynx is well executed and smart. Kudos to Hobie!

Bought one today. Went to get a PA but loved this more after I tested it out.
Hobie thermo-form ; I bet there’s more coming and I can’t wait to see more like this!
Thanks Dan for the demo, I have an outback and with a recent should injury it is making my kayak trips very painful. So when I saw the Lynx I was excited, but like you said my local dealer is waiting for the seat and the drive to the demo. But your review is very helpful!
They are very interesting for sure-Hobie finally made one for the simplistic minimalist.
I need one of those units!
Hobie craft is awesome! He made great innovative surfboard designs, a true pioneer! Great video mahalo
I have a Native Watercraft 10' Slayer Propel and bought it because of the weight, I like it but one day in my future I see myself owning one of these. THANKS for the video.
Always a must watch
I've only watched a couple of your videos so far but I've seen a ton of kayak videos on YT. The one thing I noticed, nobody shows how easy or hard it is to get in and out of these things. I think the major thing that prevents me from getting one of these is that, because of my size, I might not be able to get in our out of a kayak very gracefully. Otherwise, I appreciate the detail of your reviews.
Awesome! I pick mine up tomorrow
Waiting for somebody to take that thing to Ocean. I wanna see how it handles the waves and swells. Great video Dan = )
One word. BAD! No rocker, big flat nose. It a flat water boat. You’d have waves across your deck all day.
I second that thought. The design definitely seems limited to flat water but I'm curious how it would handle in 2 to 3 foot waves. My paddleboard does ok...
ruclips.net/video/Lp8HlMICTto/видео.html
@@nickp4171 Thanks. That's the roughest conditions I've seen the Lynx in yet (not too rough though - LOL).
Nick from Navarre Kayak Fishing spends 40 hours a week in a kayak, in the ocean. He would disagree.

As always, love the honest review 👍👊
Less is more when it comes to kayaks for me. I can put this in the back of my truck and launch it any where I want to. Super High quality engineering and materials in an ultralight well thought out design. This is my dream kayak that I never thought anyone would make.
We just took our new kayaks on Lewiston lake (near Redding) it was awesome… there were some big waves by the wind and our kayaks did really well
My kayak is a lifetime payette 98, my mom and my brother’s kayaks are the pelican mission 100x and my dads is the pelican mustang 100x
I've seen tons of videos about this kayak, one thing they have in common is they all do the demo on lakes that are silky smooth, no wakes whatsoever.
Just saw the video where you signing off from the Lodi shop. Stoked you were able to do this video!
Stopped doing retail, but have kept up with the channel.
You could damn near tow a skier with that thing!
Great review.
Love the weight. Hate the price
Hopefully other manufacturers come out with something similar. Like native and old town.
KaKu Voodoo
@@kristofers3562 not even close.. No pedal drive, no rudder system and weighs substantially more.
That looks sick!
started the video and immediately thought that looks a lot like Quinn's pond. Love Idaho River Sports, good people.
looks like a winner!
Dan, how would you compare it to compass? which one would you pick if you had a choice to pick one.
I think you get a lot for the money with this craft especially when you condsider how fast it is plus reverse, turns on a dime. These will sell in big numbers. Great fishing platform. Im thinking that trolling motor would be great on this
Fine looking boat.
Hey Dan, thanks for the video! I'm curious does the rudder stay in place pretty well? I fish a lot of rivers and the Compass rudder would drift on me if I didnt constantly have my hand on it.
Reminds me a lot of the nucanoe pivot drive. I wonder how they compare.
Good review 👍
Real question is what's the competition in that weight range? If no one else makes a similarly light pedal kayak then Hobie can get a premium price.
Super tight turning radius
That rudder is available for the passport now. Thars the same transducer well as the passport.
Much better options at that price point
Man, this is such a cool concept, but that price though 😒. For the money, you're getting something way more basic than a Compass but at a notably higher cost.
There is truth to that. Different intended customers, but I agree it’s not any fancier.
Looks like a nice inshore cruiser!
interesting. Does the rudder need constant correction like the outback?
Hey brother what does that spec out at how long how wide how much weight can it hold if you look in the video it looks like it really knows down when you stood up I'm about 30 lbs heavier than you do you think this is something that would work for me?
Owsome.. Pedal drive
Purdy slick 👍
Hopefully this Lynx will be more affordable than the other models
can a bow mount trolling motor be installed on this?
I recently pulled the trigger and bought one. It wasn't even on my list until I stumbled across a few videos so there was a bit of "go for it" in my decision making as there was rationale. Cons: It's overpriced at the current $3300, there's some hull-slap in choppy water for those trying to be stealthy, and the thermoplastic hull is a bit delicate (which can be easily and inexpensively remedied). Pro: This thing is a delight in every other regard; featherweight, very stable, exceptional maneuverability, comfortable. I haven't done big water or rough water yet but others have and the Lynx excels where many others fail. Also, a clarification on my "overpriced" comment. I believe the Lynx is worth the money relative to the typical high price of premium fishing kayaks. But I believe Hobie should be able to manufacture this as a significantly less expensive price point. Or at least make the H Rails and trolly standard.
$3300 it outrageous for this kayak. Hobie got bought by an investment company a year or so ago, and they moved everything to Mexico to make it cheaper, and at the same time increased prices. Meanwhile dealers are having trouble getting parts, and warranty help. I’m so disappointed in them. They use to be the best company in Paddlesports.
@@HeadwatersKayak The Lynx is a nice fishing platform and the only game in town for an ultralight, premium fishing kayak (the Getaway is a submarine and has too many serious trade-offs). I'm limited to car-topping my kayak and my Big Fish almost killed me every time I took it out. If I added a hitch, bought a trailer, and found storage I'd be adding more money with much, much less convenience. I agree that prices are ridiculous but they're not compulsory. To me, the money Torqueedo, Bixpy and Texas Power Paddle ask for their products is even more ridiculous. We live in a world were someone can outfit themselves with Walmart fishing gear and a yard sale kayak for $100 and be on the water. Or go full-on with a PA14, Strella reels, St Croix rods, motors, trailers, every gimmick and accessory and easily drop $15000 (lots of people bragging about this on RUclips). Towed by a $70K pickup.
At my place is open sea is this LYNX pratical to use? Now i am use passport 12.
Do they also make something that is more suitable for seagoing? Id like to have some pedal boad for use in the finnish archipelago. And i dont need it for fishing and doesnt need to be able to stand in. Just for cruising between the iselands. Any recommendation?
I don't think this is "IT" but I think they are def on to something here.
I wish they would have angled the bow a little to deflect the chop a little more. I'd like to see someone peddle it in some choppy water. I'm guessing it's gonna get really wet.
Yeah, that bow looks like it will really want to submarine into decent waves. Def seems like it will be limited to flat, calm waters. Not a lot of versatility for that $
For sure it’s going to be a very wet ride in chop.
It looks very nimble, stable and quick. Doesn't look like you could launch it in the surf though without getting drenched. That's a bummer, although I do like the concept.
The Lynx and the Pelican Getaway 110 are an interesting new category of boat. How's the rigidity of the deck with that foam core?
Very solid. I’m excited to check out a getaway and compare it.
Howe to anchor the kayak
Kind of ironic, every hobie video has tons of people complaining about Hobie elitists, yet all I ever see are the haters. HAHA.
Nice review!
Go on a forum or FB group and you'll see the elitist. They make the haters look like noobs.
Hey man I think there's something wrong with your audio post! Check out the 6:00 mark, your audio track slipped from the rigging clips and overlapped the main video
We put a tommy Bahama beach Chair on a paddle board and it works pretty great…!
What shoes are you wearing?
Hey mate i have watching u vidios wat do u preferred slayer 10 or hobie lynx the bothe lights kayaks and thank u for the review
Between those two I think I’d go with the slayer 10. I’ve always been a fan of that little kayak. It punches way above its weight class.
Where do you put your fishing poles and equipment?
I assume you fit the H-bar in the holes provided and then you can add anything you want.
Complainers like “why does this cost more than my ascend?”
like is for the handstand
Do you have a video on how to clean your kayak?
Lol it's not rocket science. C'mon.
HI Guys, Page 16 of the LYNX manual shows the paddle storage strap that is located next to the carry handle
Thanks! Did I not see it or was this demo missing it?
@@HeadwatersKayak Hi, if its a demo model you would need to contact where you got it from, I'm replying to you from the Hobie division in Australia.
Yes, there is supposed to be a looped bungee cord and a ball you slip it over to secure the paddle, should be on the right side as you are sitting in it, it was hard to tell but in the few quick shots of the right side in the video I didn't see it.
kren kayak baru ya ini panjangya berap cm dan lebarnya juga bang
Any tips for a 400lb person wanting to find a kayak for a lake/slow river without breaking the bank. Any suggestions are welcome
Gotta lose some weight man 🤷♂️
@@relevation0 wow I didn’t think of that 🤔😂 I’m down 30lbs and still going was just looking for a suggestion
Apparently this model or similar can be equipped with a sail. Very cool concept but much higher price point. How about a transformation to a sailboard. That would be interesting
Unfortunately there is no dagger board so sailing is not the greatest. I have a sail on my Hobie revolution 13 but it's not practical because if you get a reasonable wind you will be heading downwind continuously without a dagger board The drive fins are not effective as a dagger board or a swing keel.
I want one
I feel like that cable should of been run through the boat or at least on the side of it via padeyes. It looks like it will get caught up in a fishing crate.
Hobie is out of their mind. I guess they have their niche. It’s not that I can’t afford one, it’s that I won’t.
Nice boat. Any experience on rougher water with slight chop. I'm new to this fishing kayak thing. Thx
Wetter than normal ride in chop since it’s a totally flat/open cockpit. Still gets the job done though.
@@HeadwatersKayak thank you. Ended up going with the outback. Very happy
VIDEO on YT where a guy is cutting right through the chop , it doesn't slap as much as cut right through it.
Very good little boat/kayak
@@TheAgentAssassin thanks. i ended up with the outback and still very happy for my inshore fishing. would love the lynx for the calmer lake waters.
The price is a killer! Essentially Hobie is charging a premium for a paddle board with a chair (Yes, I know a drive and a rudder and the opportunity to spend a great deal more on accessories). A sail with no swing keel? No place to put your paddle? It's a basic Hobie Kayak for $2600 - I don't think so.
I have an Old-town 120 (to heavy)
Hobie Compass (light ♥️)
My next toy… Lynx ( ultra light ♥️♥️)
It’s a SUP with a lawn chair! For $2600 I would choose, feelfree, nucanoe, old towns etc. most fans of Hobie were disappointed n the hype of that release. Sorry Dan.
Interesting. I’ve heard mixed reviews on price, but most I know who have tried it have liked it. I’m sure we’ll learn more as time goes on.
It’s hobie what do you expect. Way overpriced
I have to agree with ya on this one! :)
It's expensive because it's 46 pounds unrigged. Not everyone wants to load up a 11-12.5 foot/80-100 pound kayak into their vehicle.
@@john-mf6jo Still a SUP, wet deck in any chop as well. Light weight for a mess of wet gear? There are better options out there for that much money and still get a lighter kayak.
Good review. You need to fix the audio at 6:02. 8:48... DUDE!!!
These look great but in the UK the price works put at about $3700 which is just way too much.
For sure not the right boat for me. But If I see a Dan video, I watch it.
There seems to be an audio editing issue around 6:00, cool video though!
Sorry about that. Didn’t catch it.
It's made with their ACE-TEC construction. Multilayered fiberglass and acrylic skin construction on EPS foam. That's why there's no hatches. Very labor intensive to make one making it super expensive.
I wish they would make a video showing what goes into making one of these and why it's so expensive
@@relevation0 it's probably proprietary. Showing what kind of work that goes into this is a great idea. Lots of premium companies do this
Expensive but worth it!!!!
Definitely a solid little kayak
Love it, just not sure I love it $2699,
Hobie should really get u to test out thier stuff bc u explain and do a better water test than they do lol
6:03 in. You might wanna edit
So weird. I just noticed that! My voice over was all out of sync
Wish someone would review the ace tec construction and durability since there is so much cracking and delamination problems in sup class ....no data from hobie on sun exposure.....guess someone would learn the hard way $$$$$......time will tell.... skipping 3k € investment for now.....
try to fall in the water and then try to come up ? i would like to see...
I miss your videos let me ask you a question I really like the lynx not for that price
Besides it's a paddle board with a peddle drive and a chair
Nice lightweight idea, but NY God $2700. I woukd rather look into the Kaku model that's got a similar concept, but much better in choppy water and a helluva lot less pricey
Thanks for the suggestion. I just looked at the Kaku Zulu, but it's priced at $2k & almost weighs twice as much. What's the edge that a Zulu have over the Lynx?
Sir pls help me i am from kerala
Old 1kayak pls
This thing would have been 1699 I would’ve totally bought one..But 2600 I will pass..If they would’ve hit that price point they were sold a ton of these things
They for sure would have. But from what I’m hearing they are selling out at this price. 2021 is 🦇💩🤪 when it comes to kayaks.
Agree at the price $1500.00 sure towards $3k heck no
Think I would go for the Pelican Getaway over this.
I will say the Pelican plastic is not on the same level as the plastic Hobie uses. Same process but end results are not.
@@HeadwatersKayak From what I have seen in stores local to me they seem pretty solid and well built to me. , Pelican has bin around for 50yrs or so , they must be doing something right..lol Have you seen that Getaway HDII yet. I didn't even no they had that , just happen to come across it while browsing for a smaller yak for shallow rivers which will be the Sentinel 100x Angler.
They do a great job making inexpensive kayaks that paddle well for their price and fairly light weight. They are not known for high-quality.
Just checked the Getaway out. Crazy similar design! More of a price point I would’ve expected. I think Hobie over valued this one, although I’m sure it’s a nicer platform.
@@HeadwatersKayak Yeah the price point on it is ridiculous for what your getting but never the less looks like a good platform and I'm sure the Getaway can easily be converted for fishing , just comes down to dollars for buyers , either way as long as you get yourself out on the water. I'm picking up a Sentinel 100x angler for hard to get to shallow rivers by me and I do own a slayer propel 10..lol But the Sentinel will be more suitable and just over all a better paddling yak where as the SP10 is a pedal yak first as appose to a paddling yak.
I love the design... it's ONLY $2700!!! lol. Dang. I bought a fully equipped Bass boat with 250HP for $3500...I'll have to pass for now. lol.
Haha fair enough.
@@Makkma44 I have 6 boats. The cost for fuel is worth it because I can reach any corner of the lake I want to. Granted, I can't get into super shallow parts...but that's where Talons come in and a cheap Yak is in play. lol. jk.
where are you guys getting bass boats for $3500 that arent 20 years old?
@@CrankyBuddha Keep an eye out and have connections.
@@ballzybaits4414 I asked where, not how. I've been shopping for not ass boats for years in the Midwest and never see anything that isn't a heap for less than 6 or 7k
This would be so much better for those of you that don’t have a large vehicle to haul it By simply having a fold in half design. If you want to make a crap load of money there you go!
If anyone could innovate and make that happen it’s Hobie.
Steering looks like a huge improvement over the shitty 2019 i11s steering
Way Way Overpriced for what it is !!!! $2,700.00 that’s Crazy. And I do not like that rudder cable flopping loose. Someone bored during the Covid lockdown came up with this PaddleBoard Kayak. Regardless, thank you for the video and Content Dan 😎👍
Thanks for video no brainer way mega overpriced too many boats out there
I like mine , but it is very poor quality, there are talking about 2nd quality on hobie forum .....mine is full of small dents , dirt in plastic, creasses in plastic , deformed bow, and even bubbles from delamination of plastic..... be sure to carefully inspect hull before buying.....
Hate the price, Hobie Wan MoMonay
Man there prices are crazy I'll keep my lifetime guarantee on the hull old town salty pdl for 700 dollars less brand new
Cool boat but the price is absolutely ridiculous. Weird how literally every other company can make comparable boats for 30 percent less money.
I feel they missed out on a couple of things they should have incorporated for the price. The should have done the retractable transducer, put at least a square hatch and a small compartment for a battery. If the would have done that would be an ultimatum fishing paddle board.
This is a solid platform. Think SUP. There is no empty space in the hull for a hatch to lead to.
I just don't see the purpose for this at its current price point. The only pro it has over an outback is it weighs much less. For me, there's really no reason to pick this kayak up.
Nothing about this thing says kayak
So when is a kayak no longer really a kayak? With this thing. This is not a kayak, it's a boat.
If we’re being honest and true to the definition of a kayak, as something your become, any sit on top kayak is not a kayak. So I’ll let you make that distinction for yourself.
Absolutely sucks trying to get it through 4 and five foot high waves crashing on the beach
Could you duck hunt out of this model in your opinion? You know, blasting 12 and 10 gauge shotguns without flipping over.
Yes for sure.
@@HeadwatersKayak thank you. Keep up the videos please.
I’m a huge fan of Hobie and absolutely love my Outback, but I honestly don’t understand this boat at all. The rudder lines flopped onto the back deck really bug me to death, though I understand why the construction requires it. The seat seems mediocre. The absence of rod holders and the absence of a paddle clip or bungee is also very weird. And that hard turning seems like it’s gonna be getting a lot of people wet when they don’t expect it.
To me this just seems like it combines all the worst aspects of SUPs and kayaks.
Also, the new itrek 11 seems like a downgrade from the previous i11s. Idk what hobie is doing.
It looks like you could easily lose your gear by knocking it overboard.
