I'm pleased with my Hobie lynx. I carry it on a ladder rack . The light soft material is what makes it light. As for the keil mine got scratched up so I put gorilla tape on it, surprised how tough that stuff is. I got a sheet of kydex same color as the kayak so it shouldn't look bad when I get around to installing it the kydex. 060 was $ 10 for a 12x12 sheet desert sand color.
Have a roll of a 3ft wide carpet runner (carpet on top, rubber mat on the bottom) that you keep stored with the Lynx for when you throw it or other yaks in the back bed of the truck, basically you roll it out (carpet facing up and the rubber side down) and then slide the Lynx in. Done! No more truck bed rash!
Im considering switching out my outback to lynx, to fish small forestponds and lakes here in Sweden. Thank you for putting up this honest and detailed review! Really apriciate it =)
I've had mine about a year now ...or longer... I had some significant wear at the front from coming into concrete, shell, and metal grate ramps. I had a single finger sized puncture what I am sure was from a Mango root or stickup. and some other scrapes along the edges. I double epoxyied the scrapes and thin spots. I then added keel guard along the front center line and the back edge lines. Seems good to me and I was surprised it wasn't worse. I'm really tough on equipment. I'm happier now than before I looked and repaired. All good. Going out in it tomorrow.
Thanks for making! I'm rough on my things and just got this delicate flower so I bought the skid plates and a few of the other helpful items you made. Did a couple other things to try to military grade this thing as much as possible.
100%. It’s a great kayak it’s just a bit to heavy for me these days. I’ve moved a few kayaks around and enjoy how easy this thing is to get in the water.
Hi Nick , thanks for another great honest review, just sold my Old Town Predator . 65 years old Triple Bypass Surgery in February, so looking to get a light weight Fishing Platform, your videos on The Hobie Mirage Lynx are helping me with my decision & of course all your clever accessories are always a great add👍
I don't see any issues. I think every other kayak is going to have rashes and scratches from loading/unloading and launching/recovering. I know my PDL sure does. It does hurt a little since it's not a cheap tool but in the end, it's still functional and not meant to be a beauty pageant show piece. Thanks for the review. I think that answers a lot of questions that a lot of people have about the durability! --Brent
Thanks Nick, shoveled snow today sporting my Navarre Fishing beanie! Also thanks to Erica for getting it shipped. Will have to email you an ice fishing picture with it after this weekend. Take care!
The pitting of the surface is probably the cooling temperature of the mold was too cold to achieve faster cycle time. I don't deal with thermoforming. I do Injection, Rubber and Blow molding. I have a cheap Lifetime Tamarack Pro. It's cheap blow molding compared to higher quality Jackson which is roto molding. Seems to me thinker thermoforming requires longer cycle time which costs more. A blow molding has about 7 minute cycle to make plus labor for secondary assembly.
Looks like my decision to buy a Lynx just gets better. I wonder if a person could/should coat the bottom with Flex Seal.. That stuff wears like steel., and would not hurt the pickup bed.
I’ve got a Lynx on order and would like to hear your thoughts and solutions on repairing bottom damage. I’m not really clear on the actual material used so I’m not sure what to use for a lasting repair. Maybe a keel guard would be advised for a new boat?
Hey Nick, I’m a Lynx owner and love it except for one thing. I fish inland lakes in northern Wisconsin. When we get a wind we get a chop and that chop creates that ANNOYING bow slap that I’m sure the fish hear also. What are your thoughts about having made an adhesivly secured bow piece that would slice the water instead of the flat slap. Think of it as a Burly bow protector on steroids. I know it would affect performance, but my priorities are minimizing bow slap and fish spooking. What are your thoughts, and who would make this? My wallet is waiting. Thanks
Thanks for the update -- I am trying to decide on the Lynx or the new Inflatable 11 . Will be primarily using it around Portofino and keeping it underneath a our complex. Would appreciate any advice you can give !
Majority of people I know baby their toys? If you don't toss it around like out friend here. I'm sure it would last 10 years. In 10 years so many things can happen. Why worry what if? In the past I baby my stuff . ..guns, camping gear, shoes, dirtbike ( yes, that too🤣🤣🤣) etc. When time to sell? The new owner got a bargain. Enjoy it & don't worry about losses. You only live once, stop preserving stuff. I'm 63 now

That's one thing I love about my old town Sportsman. I've had it for a year and in my opinion it's virtually indestructible

John, that’s a major surgery. Im glad you are able to get back on the water!
I bet a motor on the back of the Lynx would make it even easier to zip around on the lynx
Very honest and thorough review. Thank for submitting this.
Thanks for taking the time to watch.
Good to see the thing is holding up, nice vid 👍
Thanks for your honest updated review!

Thorough review. Thanks for posting it
Thanks for watching.
Nice, ...I was thinking about uadding a lynx to my arsenal, with durability the concern. Now we know they are good.
I’m a fan of the Lynx. It’s not as durable as a traditional kayak but I haven’t had any problems.
Thanks Nick, shoveled snow today sporting my Navarre Fishing beanie! Also thanks to Erica for getting it shipped. Will have to email you an ice fishing picture with it after this weekend. Take care!
I look forward to seeing the ice fishing photo! Good luck.
I really appreciate your videos and updates. I’ve debated the keel guards myself.
Thanks for watching the videos.

Nick, How is that lock and load camera mount attached to the bungee cord insert ?

There’s nothing wrong with a keen guard and it’s a smart option if you’re worried. It will protect your kayak.
Any issues storing the kayak on its side or on the hull, as opposed to upside down on the rails like Hobie suggests?
I haven’t had any issues and I leave one sitting on the shed floor and one sitting on kayak stands in the garage.

I just went on Hobie's website and looks like the 2022 Lynx is now 47 lbs. not 45 anymore. Does anyone know why?
Interesting.
Can you make a old town pdl for flippers instead of the original pdl propeller so it could be universal.
Nice video! Would you recommend the Lynx or itrek11 for bass/redfish sight fishing in spooky conditions?
Both will do. I’ve had zero issues sight fishing Redfish from the Lynx. Easy to stand and extremely stable.
@@NavarreKayakFishing thanks!!
did you upgrade to the larger flippers?
I haven’t yet. It’s so light weight that I haven’t seen the need.
How do you store it?? Thx
I store it flat on a stand in the shed or on the ground in the garage.

I would get the Lynx. You’ll have zero issues with durability going across the sand.
I love ya Nick.... but aint buyin 220 lbs ...lol
100% true though. I need to hit a gym and get rid of this gut lol
Abs start in the kitchen Nick...lol
That’s a fact lol.
I think it held up great considering the use it got
I agree.

The reason that the price is so much less is simple. This material is so much cheaper. Get a rotomolded Hobie if you want one to last.
We should talk soon about this lol
I look forward to it.
