I want to feel optimistic about the midterms and relax a little, but after every traumatic disappointment since 2016 my ability to feel at ease has been crippled. No matter how badly the GOP screws up again and again, or how obvious it is that no sane human being should rely on them for any positive outcome, or how clearly the signs point towards Democratic victories, I will be acutely uncomfortable until this horror show ends. I've been made all too aware of America's capacity for stupidity.

If the Planter's Peanut or the farmers of the National Peanut Board told people to "Eat my nuts," the humorous advertising campaign would certainly drive up market demand by affecting preference. Nuts would be substituted for other healthy snacks and the demand curve would shift to the right. As a result of this rightward shift, a new equilibrium would be established leading to a higher price for nuts as well as a higher QUANTITY SUPPLIED of nuts. The MARKET SUPPLY has not changed but the higher prices and profit margins will incentivize more nut producers to enter the market.

A common problem in politics: confusing defining a goal as being the same thing as a plan to get there. What do you if your hungry and you have a can of food with no can opener? Politician's answer: you eat the contents of the can.

This didn't get covered enough when it happened a few months ago, but the most detailed GOP plan put forth this year was Rick Scott's 11 point plan in which he wants to, among other things, raise taxes on those who are too poor to pay federal income tax and make Congress vote on whether to maintain every current federal program (including Medicare and Social Security) every 5 years. Needless to say, politically savvy Republicans buried this story as soon as they could, but rest assured, to the extent that the GOP even has a coherent ideology these days, this is exactly what they want to do if they take power.
These Republicans want to privatise Medicare and Social Security for profit. That's all they really care about.
I think one of the things that confuses (not really confuse, just can't think of a better word) me is the 5 years. The terms for various positions are 2, 4, or 6 years, so surely a multiple of one of those three would be better
