This a factor because of cost. Think of a repair shop. This display cost $350, the shop has to mark it up for a profit, so lets say $50, so now the screen costs $400, then their is labor costs. This is not just heat removing a display and replacing (iPhone and most Android devices), your completely disassembling the phone. This could cost $150+ in labor, so now a $1500 phone is going to cost $550-650 to repair. Most people would just buy a new phone.... When display prices come down so a shop could replace it for $300-$400 it might be an option for them to repair...
@@TheCoolDave the thing is...sparepart price tends to stay the same almost forever, the price of secondhand/ preloved smartphone would simply be 1/2 or 1/3 of the display sparepart itself after 2-3 years after its released

I’ve had one of those in the same color. Promptly sold it to a friend after a few weeks (it had complimentary Care+), especially after reports of the screen spontaneously cracking at the crease and getting scruffs at the hinge from normal use. Repairing the screen is expensive if you didn’t get Care+. If you pre-ordered one, you’re one of the lucky ones that get complementary Care+ protection for 1 year and a 25W charger. Right now, they’re selling even slightly used ones for less than half of the retail price because of the cost of repair (especially if you don't have Care+).
@@potatorigs2155 It had complimentary Care+ so they can have it repaired for free within the period, and they wanted a folding phone anyway. I don’t want the hassle of bringing it to Samsung for repairs in case of problems.
Hi Hugh. Massive thanks for making this video. The main camera died on my ZFlip3. I was able to fix it by replacing the motherboard thanks to you. I might be the only one out there who's had a fault with a flip but it wasn't the screen! At least the internals are easy to come by! Cheers.
Pretty sure they only sell for like 500-600 usd working (atleast that's what they are going for on EU eBay sometimes even less) so you'd have to be able to buy them very cheap.
Also got a Flip3. Mine is now about 10 month old and shows deep scratches along the folding display part. It seems like the top layer plastic(display foil came off after 6 month of use) broke open. Rly sad because otherwise my Flip 3 proved to be pretty solid. Can't report a worn out hinge or any other signs of wear and tear. So i definitely consider to repair mine. Samsung typically gives you a new screen for 1/2 the typical repair cost(450€) if it breaks within the first year of purchase. 225€ still cheap compared to a whole display assemble
Same with me, mine is shows scratches, and I dont know why it was happened. I just flip and put it on my pocket, and when I opened it, I was shocked looking the scratches along the screen. Is that human error or defect from the product?
I've owned 3 z flip 3s now, my first two had factory faults resulting in green dead pixels on the screen. it's a shame they couldn't offer a repair, but on the bright side I got it covered by warranty both times
I’m buying the 1st gen Z flip in the beautiful purple colorway for only $155 and actually fully functions I was in decent condition no crease or anything so I’m excited I have to be super careful though so it doesn’t start creasing
I wonder how they achieved such a break. mine has been dropped a few times, i even tripped over with it in my pocket and nothing. she is fine. just amazed.
OMG, thankful was able to watch this. I’m actually thinking of upgrading to Flip4 (from iphone11) foldable phones are cute and so advanced, but hesitating since it’s only a 4th edition so I’m guessing the folding technology is not that sturdy yet. So this video def proved that foldable phones are still a risky purchase. I’m not rich so if I buy a $1000 phone I’ll be wanting a minimum of 3years with it.
@@Wacypro As long as their screens are plastic and not glass they will always be more fragile than a normal phone. My Z Flip 3 is still perfectly fine and i have it since launch day without a single scratch. Honestly as a tech, my way forward for my fold 3 down the track will be diy, and considering currently in Australia, $750 gets you a replacement housing like this for the flip 3, it still beats buying a new $2500 phone
Pre-ordered this phone along with a couple of the Fold 3s direct from Samsung. After 3 months of use, the hinge had lost about 30% of its tension. Wasn't as floppy as the older Z2s that i had seen but nevertheless unacceptable for a new phone. Never dropped the phone or abused it and was encased in a Spigen Tough Armor case. Samsung stated they couldn't guarantee a flawless repair and would carrier lock it. They flat out refused to exchange it stating it was past that point. I ended up losing money on it and just traded it in for an S22 Ultra...got $400 for it. Yeah probably could have sold it privately but unfortunately nowadays, there are just too many shady people out there. I didn't want to deal with that mess as well.
That's interesting as I had sent mine in with multiple obvious dents, scratches and dirt for a screen that was tearing from the folds. They still swapped it out and sent me a brand new phone 9 months into owning the Z Fold 3. Which country are you in? Manufacturer warranty lasts for 1 year in Canada.

Recently got myself one of these in perfect "like new" condition for only £400 (I'm becoming obsessed with buying tech the moment the next gen model comes out, just got a 2021 legion 7 for £700 less than the 22 model despite only a 10% performance difference, imo it's the best way to find bargains). I absolutely love the phone, it's the perfect replacement for my old note 8 as I get that note sized screen but it can still fit in women's jeans pockets (crucial as I don't carry a handbag). my biggest worry tho is reparability, I know the screen protector on the front has a tendency to crack over time and replacing it is not an easy process (thankfully the person I bought from had Samsung replace the original before sending it to me but still it's a worry). I suppose I just have to accept that this is not the type of phone I can keep using for 3+ years like my previous ones, tbh if it makes it 2 I'll be doing well. still for the price I paid I don't really mind, top of the line specs and a cool factor that'll impress more than the latest iPhone is pretty good for only £400, hopefully by the time it breathes it's last I'll be able to get a flip 5 for a good price and fingers crossed it'll be out of the early adopters phase by then.

i have a fold 2 and its still perfect and has no scratches , my wife has the flip 3 and shes not a soft going person , but the screen is perfect after over 6 months heavy use. these folds seem to brake with people who want to destroy the phone in holland you can buy a new one for around €500 or 350 for a second hand one , so replacing the screen seems an expensive fix

It would be nice to buy a 10 Samsung Z Flip lot and repair them, like the lot you’ve shown in the video. You would save a lot of money buying and making some profit after selling them..
its honestly kind of crazy how much these cracked display ones go on sale for, pcs and laptops will usually stay a little higher due to all the hardware inside but the 230 dollar one you bought while having an incredibly destroyed screen seems like all the internals work just fine

Hey I know it's most likely it's because Australia doesn't have a samsung repair station but that would have been covered by limited warranty kn the flip and fold 3s they're offering the replacement screen and battery for the first 2 years
A phone like the Z-Flip 3 is basically my dream phone, but I simply don't trust the tech yet. FAR too many times have I seen displays crack at random, and while I'm sure that's not likely, I'd rather not risk it until we've seen folding displays mature a bit more.
Mine is still like new and i have it since launch day. The warranty also covers the foldable screen if it dies without being your fault (in my country at least).
Yea, if you drop a bar phone in a case, unless you have bad luck, your fairly good and a cracked display on any other Samsung, is like $100-150, and can be swapped out with a heat. Drop this and your down $1500. I don't trust the tech YET...
I have a 11 pro max an the back glass was crack it gotten replaced but the phone restart by it self, could it be the battery want changing or something else is wrong
theres local markets in my country that claim theyre agents for samsung, and i can find a new flip 3 for only ~600$, and 3 years warranty, could it be refurbished or something ?
I mean the idea behind this one and the fold where cool and all but it just doesn't seem very practical cost wise, I mean doesn't it actually keep dust debris out from the center fold like it's supposed to?
The worst part about the Flip 3 & Fold 3 is you are unable to purchase the North American version display assembly from any retailer even Samsung authorized resellers . The 5g antenna cut outs are different from the international version.
Mine was cracked like yours but not dropped. Sent it in and samsung replaced the lcd for me. outside of phone did not have damage. that is probably why.

Finally it's here *YES*

Why would you pawn garbage off on a friend like that? Kind of a 🍆 move.
so you promptly sold a phone known to fail to a friend noice !
@@potatorigs2155 It had complimentary Care+ so they can have it repaired for free within the period, and they wanted a folding phone anyway. I don’t want the hassle of bringing it to Samsung for repairs in case of problems.
same here 🙋🏼♂️
Hi Hugh. Massive thanks for making this video. The main camera died on my ZFlip3. I was able to fix it by replacing the motherboard thanks to you. I might be the only one out there who's had a fault with a flip but it wasn't the screen! At least the internals are easy to come by! Cheers.
I was quite surprised to hear only $350 for a new screen. Kinda seems worth it to fix and flip (haha pun!)
Pretty sure they only sell for like 500-600 usd working (atleast that's what they are going for on EU eBay sometimes even less) so you'd have to be able to buy them very cheap.
@@trevor245 true. But in Aus and NZ they are selling anywhere from $1600-$2200
@@Vikturus22 going on Australian ebay right now working ones seem to sell for around 600-850 AU.
I recently got one for £100 with a fully working screen
I've owned 3 z flip 3s now, my first two had factory faults resulting in green dead pixels on the screen. it's a shame they couldn't offer a repair, but on the bright side I got it covered by warranty both times
Why go with the same phone again which dissapointed you not one but twice
@@taulanthalimi6837 Read again, it got covered by warranty, but not repaired, rather replaced under warranty.
@@taulanthalimi6837 it was replaced by warranty, I didn't have an option. I would've taken a refund but that isn't something you can do
By the second phone I’d just ask for my money back instead. The third will break, probably after the warranty ends.
@@Kalvinjj No need to be rude , i was asking politly why
So what i missed a detail
Amazing work as always! Thank you for sharing. We now have the same phone!
his videos are the main reason i am watching youtube.
edit: your videos are so satisfying
I’m buying the 1st gen Z flip in the beautiful purple colorway for only $155 and actually fully functions I was in decent condition no crease or anything so I’m excited I have to be super careful though so it doesn’t start creasing
Never fold it
Flocking the floppy video
@@xcpf what???
I wonder how they achieved such a break. mine has been dropped a few times, i even tripped over with it in my pocket and nothing. she is fine. just amazed.
i enjoy watching e waste being reuse and saving the raw material . thanks
thanks for sharing what liquid adhesives you use to reattach back panels, i had been wondering for months.
Months? Any Google search would reveal it's b7000 in seconds
3:11 Now I want someone to make a transparent case for this phone, it looks way cooler without the back
Dbrand can give you that look/feel in either a skin form (Flip 3, 4) or a case (Flip 4 only): dbrand.com/shop/special-edition/teardown
0:12 "Samsung's newest foldable phone" well that got dated quickly.. lol
A similar happened to my flip3 and managed to get it fixed with warranty.
Definitely repairable if you have the skills that you have.
so basically its not
this is worse than a fucking iphone
Esse procedimento de troca do display mantém a certificação IPX8?
The first thing that gets me is how new this is and it already needs repairing, barely a year after it was launched.
I absolutely love my Z Flip, Z fold 3 5G and my Razr 5G.
Foldables have stolen my heart as a tech enthusiast and a tech reviewer.
I’ll keep away from them, so more for you.
I love the folding but I feel like they need to mature a bit before I could own one. I drop my phone a lot lol
@@Wacypro As long as their screens are plastic and not glass they will always be more fragile than a normal phone. My Z Flip 3 is still perfectly fine and i have it since launch day without a single scratch. There is also a display model in a phone shop near me and it’s also still fine and those phones also get more abuse from people. As long as you don’t drop them, they are going to be fine
@@Mirra2003-f9s yeah IK that they’ll never be as durable as a fixed screen. I’m mostly waiting until they get cheaper so I can afford to drop it lol
Honestly as a tech, my way forward for my fold 3 down the track will be diy, and considering currently in Australia, $750 gets you a replacement housing like this for the flip 3, it still beats buying a new $2500 phone
STILL WAITING ON THAT HUGH JEFFREYS MERCH DROP THOUGH 😁😁
My Flip is still working as it should after 9 months. The only thing that needed replacing was the included screen protector.
Hugh what educational post on RUclips, heck the shadedy repairer would not touch it because of complexity of the internal
@@christophersack1406, USA...SoCal.
Samsung warranty is 1 year...been that way since owing my first Samsung mobile device. I just sent back a G3 watch for warranty exchange no questions asked. Bought that watch from Best Buy March of last year. Reckon it all depends on who you speak to; spoke to 3 different reps about the Flip 3 (2 by phone and 1 by chat) and spoke to only 1 rep about my defective watch.
AH-HA! GREAT VIDEO!!! Thanks! I love your commentary, too. I own one of these little monster puzzles. I use to work at computer repair store. What an ugly, thankless job that was. I use to repair desktops, laptops and expensive media walkman cassette reorders. Talk about mechanical cr4p, you need to lay everything out in an orderly fashion. This is so repairing it's easier to do monkey see, monkey do repairs. You've got good fundamental practices. Give yourself a pat on the back!
Thanks, after watching this video I now want a broken Z Flip 3.
Great repair, impressed with how much alcohol you’re able to drink and use it to your advantage.
Fascinating, and great job, as always.
The reason there was silicone around the front facing camera is to help keep dust out i think.
I don't know why people complain that my flip phone broke it's because they don't take care of it properly and then they blame the phone
Great work, I wouldn’t have the patience for this
New ones already get sold for ~600€ here, there are also some deals with a Watch4 or phone contracts to get it even cheaper :D
Love the way samsung has also put their advert at the start of this video
Samsung didn’t do that RUclips did
Wow bruh I checked out your store you ain’t Lying you got some grate Deals over there definitely going to buy one from you 🙂
I looked but didn't see, has he ever done a surface duo? I busted my one screen I can't even find the glass. Hoping maybe he'd done it and would know where to get the glass. Thanks again for any leads or info.
Wow that's a killer deal! I know that folding display is EXPENSIVE to get a replacement of
Nah,wait until fold 5,im still rocking a note10+, a bar phone is still more durable, the note10+ sometime has better camera at night
@@pham3383 Same here, still sporting a Note 10+, really nice phone, good battery life and plays any game I dump at it...
Superbe work! Thanks for sharing. In one of your A51 you mentioned that the fingerprint was an issue while swapping screens , is it the case with this one ? I need to change the screen on my Fold 3 so I was wondering. Thanks in advance for your kind help 😊 and keep up good work 👏
Experts made it look so easy 😀
i have a fold 2 and its still perfect and has no scratches , my wife has the flip 3 and shes not a soft going person , but the screen is perfect after over 6 months heavy use. these folds seem to brake with people who want to destroy the phone in holland you can buy a new one for around €500 or 350 for a second hand one , so replacing the screen seems an expensive fix
would it be worth it to refurbish a Huawei P30 lite with broken front glass, screen, back glass and slightly bend frame? it's over 2 years old probably 3.
It would be nice to buy a 10 Samsung Z Flip lot and repair them, like the lot you’ve shown in the video. You would save a lot of money buying and making some profit after selling them..
Have you ever repaired the inside screen on a galaxy fold 3? if so. do you have a video?
its honestly kind of crazy how much these cracked display ones go on sale for, pcs and laptops will usually stay a little higher due to all the hardware inside but the 230 dollar one you bought while having an incredibly destroyed screen seems like all the internals work just fine
Do remember that Folding Smartphone Screens are made of fragile plastic NOT glass
solution for this is to buy cheap phones ie usd 100-150. they work just as well
Broo in Lebanon you can buy a fully functional one that still has warranty for 500 usd !
watching this as my broken samsung z fliip 3 charges with dead pixels spreading each second i type. i wish i watched this video to do it since my dad tried getting the back off and he broke it. i miss my old phone 🥲
My guess would be that the silicon adhesive on the front face cam is more shock absorbing material than glue.
It's like a jigsaw? Nice work.
I love your channel so much
I was thinking of buying one of these to repair, I should probably just get a cheap iphone first though huh
This folding design just looks such a disaster waiting to happen. Hugh's a brave man.
I watch your videos
Mine is still like new and i have it since launch day. The warranty also covers the foldable screen if it dies without being your fault (in my country at least).
Yea, if you drop a bar phone in a case, unless you have bad luck, your fairly good and a cracked display on any other Samsung, is like $100-150, and can be swapped out with a heat. Drop this and your down $1500.
I don't trust the tech YET...
You don't seem to deal with many Galaxy Folds... Is that by choice or are they less inclined to be damaged?
i can't find it on ifixit website, where did he buy the replacement display?
How long did it take you to do all of that not including the glue dry time? That was very complex
When I clicked this video I got an ad for the Samsung z flip
🤣
Props for saying z the right way 🥳🥳😁
I have a Question whereabouts did you purchase the replacement part from
@hugh. What I'd like to know is does the fingerprint scanner still work after the replacement ?
I have a 11 pro max an the back glass was crack it gotten replaced but the phone restart by it self, could it be the battery want changing or something else is wrong
I obvoiusly love your videos, but i am wondering where are ylu buying your parts
theres local markets in my country that claim theyre agents for samsung, and i can find a new flip 3 for only ~600$, and 3 years warranty, could it be refurbished or something ?
I mean the idea behind this one and the fold where cool and all but it just doesn't seem very practical cost wise, I mean doesn't it actually keep dust debris out from the center fold like it's supposed to?
yo dude, huge, where do you get that B7000 glue? is there a reputable place ??
0:22 looks like an art piece
I wonder why you doesn't install the original Adhesive>The Z Flip 3 contains water Resistant.
The reason why most people avoid "flip / fold phones" are this, the screen is too fragile even our own fingernail can easily destroy the screen.
You can dent the plastic layer but not the actual screen
@@brandon_nope Jerryrigeverything try to destroy Fold 2 using nothing but his own fingernail and succeed 😁
Can you fix my Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 while the screen is broken messed up display when you press on the crack or the shutter it starts blending up colors
Well done! Great repair!
I did a hinge replacement on one of these.
Folding Phones Today Aren't As Durable As Folding Phones From The Past
Im so over my all these flip and fold my Z3 screen gave out in an half of a year too such trash not sure if I even wanna fix it. Is it possible to install a nonflip screen instead on the Z3? Not trying to drop $200 on a screen just to repeat the damage again.
