She has the Ronnettes 1960s glottal vocal style (little Cher, Shakira sound dropping the larynx down). Loved it, and like all of the singers and great arrangement.
Joey's got real character in her tone, and it suits this arrangement beautifully - some of the other PMJ performances of this with other singers just don't seem to have the same "Wow!" factor, except for the one with Sara Niemitz leading off as the middle singer (but then, I love everything that girl does!)
Another thing I love about this is that the 3 of them have very distinct styles and personalities yet it just _works so well_ , not just in their singing but also in their choreography, like damn. It's perfect.

This is truly exceptional! Putting a doo wop theme on this song was genius. The great backup band, tight harmonies, beautiful choreography, great voices (especially the blond's haunting voice) and that indescribable fun factor. So much talent! It instantly put me in 1961. Indeed, she has that, totally unracist in any form, African soul vibe going on. There is an inherited voice from that region of the world that can be molded into an amazing singing voice that the rest of us have to work hard to come close to. Amazing stuff.
The choreography was so good! Remember, girl groups in the earlier '60s wore matching outfits and these green dresses with the ugly bow at the collar are classic. Such fun and because of this, one found out about Portugal The Man.

Reminds me of that line in Hotel California. "We haven't had that spirit here since 1969." That song came out in '77. That's less than ten years. It doesn't have nearly the implied isolation it does now. That line, appropriately enough, gets spookier with age.

I first watched and I was hooked like a fish on a line. And I've had to watch it and listen to them again and again. Pure Fire they are mesmerizing to listen to and watch . They are all uniquely pretty and talented. But together they are captivating. I want and need to see and hear more from these gorgeous women.

Such a perfect trio. The voices of them all have a completely different character, but still Play so well together.
Perfection in every detail! This time (I've watched this a bunch of times) I noticed that whoever is singing lead usually does a different dance than the other two, but then perfectly falls back in unison when her part is over. How cool!
Their voices mix into one incredible singing trio that makes my heart and ears happy :)
