I'm pretty sure that there's a video of a caught beaver being processed. I know there's coyotes and rabbits and coons and squirrels and I don't know what all on older videos, plus a lot of them being cooked and eaten. 90 some odd trapping vids IIRC
Dave, have you ever sat a drowned? Drowning rigging for Bieber I have and it worked good. I don't know if you have ever tried one of them or not. You can use a snare or a leg. Hold on that question if I remember remembering some of the things that I used to trap.
That was informative right there. Could you show the the skinning and meat harvest off of it and collecting the castor in a video. I'm very interested in being able to eat it and what cuts are made to avoid tainted meat. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us
great catch! A few comments, cost wise, you can have about 20-30 snares for the price of 1 conibear. If you miss with a snare, no big deal, miss with a conibear and most likely you will have a trap smart beaver that you will not catch with a conibear ever. On a lighter note, I'd like to see you eat that beaver in one meal,,,haha.
Since this is your latest video I'll say it here, Have a Happy New Year Dave! Thanks for all the knowledge you have shared. Can't wait to see what the new year brings to your school and this channel.
Theres a fine line between too small and they push it out of the way and too big and they get body snared instead of neck . I used to trap foxes and coons on the old farm and it does take a bit of trial and error to fine tune it .
Very educational and down to the point- I appreciate this. I do my outdoor activities in period clothing but I came up working at a Boy Scout camp, spending my summers there teaching classes and whatnot. Unfortunately, firearms and actual trapping were not allowed, though I did lead demos with big old-school traps. I always wished I could carry a muzzleloader and set some real traps in the backcountry. Keep this video series up and I might just have to get into actual trapping 😆 thanks for dropping your knowledge for the rest of us.
Hey dave i know you talk about how you've sized down your wardrobe for more durable and useful clothing and i was wondering if you made a video on clothing you wear in the woods and on the trapline?
👍👍Good stuff Dude! 14:29 Question....Idn't that the Ruger pistol Ole Steve Davis gifted you? I seen it on a previous vid recently but the memory just did surface.
Great video, an excellent, real life demonstration of snare trapping. The beard is looking cool too! If you keep growing it I would like to book you as Santa in 2025. 😉
Can you run your trap line using the drone? Maybe fly over all the traps really quick to see if anything was caught and then only go to the traps that need attention.
My average beaver up here in indiana has been about 34 lbs. I bet of that weight you get about 15 lbs of meat. Really good dark meat, similar to beef or deer or raccoon or bear etc.
Next question the blood we saw on the snare were did that come from I can think of 3 ways that could happen 1. it's from u dispatching the beaver,2. The snare got blood on it from the beaver trying 2 chew through it,& finally#3. The snare cut in2 the beaver as it was trying 2 get away
Yeah cause when you hunt and snare enough of them for a long enough time for their nice coats evolution phases it out kinda similar to how elephants tusk have gotten smaller or in some cases nonexistent even in males
i wish i coulda sent you a tub of this for christmas www.haupysbeaverrub.ca/recipes.html try it out. Haupy's beaver steak spice rub... they have Moose Rub as well. and they have recipes for your wild game on the page i linked. happy eats.
Are you hungry? Think about it... Go to safeway for meat and enjoy the beavers.. Jesus dave ..i love all your .. How to survive shit. Ive learned alot. Just chill on the the fukin beavers and the squirrels.. Look vwhen fukin apocalypse shows up. Ill eat a beaver.. And not just my wifes
If only we had enough Dave Canterburys for every school in the nation. The knowledge you've given me is infinitely more useful than algebra
I truly feel you. However in this day and time that's how it is. I just wish they would teach more common sense
Thats some good eating Dave! Now to do a beaver cooking video!
Im sure there are other websites that show you how to propperly eat beaver
That intro with pathfinder logo is 🔥🔥🔥
What Mr. Beaver did to that snare cable just shows you how damn serious the business end of that young man real is. Great content, Dave.
All my biggest trap shy beaver were snared. Absolutely my favorite way in any area
I’d like to second the thing about showing how to skin & butcher this animal, including handling the castor glands.
A third on that here. Maybe a nice beaver tail steak too, I hear its delicious

Nice set and catch. Good realistic information on how, when and why. Thanks Dave 👍😎
Thanks 👍

That's a big brown beaver Winona!

Thought you would later release the beaver and just showed us an example about setting up a snare.
Another great trapping video!!! Thank you so much for posting this video!! Take care and stay safe my friend!

Thank you brother
I’m headed out to the bar tonight. Gonna set a few snares, hopefully I’ll catch a beaver or two?!
Wishing you and your family a Happy New Year. You are absolutely awesome.
Thank you for the awesome adventure footage..have a wonderful day..
Have you used or tried a power snar?
Hey Dave give us update on the homestead
1 snare = 1 kill more accurately stated cuz one beaver is way more than a single meal, assuming spoilage is mitigated. Good video as always Dave.
That is true
For management and longevity, how often will you try to harvest a beaver on your land?
Hey dave i know you talk about how you've sized down your wardrobe for more durable and useful clothing and i was wondering if you made a video on clothing you wear in the woods and on the trapline?
he did a few weeks ago. just search his site before asking.

P.S. Got me jealous growing a beard like that without having to wear a face mask.....I miss my beard LOL!
No he gave me a Rough Rider, it burned in the Fire, This is a Ruger Wrangler
That's a chunk of a beaver there. Looks like more than a few meals from that one snare. Congrats on landing that ol' boy.
Happy New Year Dave/Iris.
Man I enjoy this stuff! Another nice video Mr. Dave!
That beaver is huge!
Beaver stew is soooo goood! Those fresh chew marks are a sure bet a beaver’s super close.
15:16 the screen just goes Black
From all our sponsors, affiliates & friends. I'll be back as soon as I can with another video.
So, you don't feel shorted. LOL LOl Lol lol lol lol
Shit happens
That was a very good lesson on snares vs traps as far as longevity goes..
Thanks for awesome videos Dave. Happy new year.
Dave, new to trapping here. Do the beavers or other animals see tracks laid by trappers?
Ok. Now I need a video on beaver butchering. 40lb beaver equates to how much edibles?
I would like to see you make new heavy duty snares if possible thanks
Hows the house coming Dave? Please give an update if I haven't missed it 🇺🇸😎
Moved in Just before Christmas, thank you for asking
Now that snare almost came apart was that just from the beaver pulling on it or did it try 2 chew it way though it
Chewing
Hi Dave ..hey if I can ask is this on your property or the WLA ? I've got my eyes on a WLA but heard I need a special permit .
This is on my Property
@@DavidCanterbury beautiful place brother

Have done that in some sections this year
All that basket needs is a cavlar liner. Great info! Ne safe all.
That's a pretty hefty animal, Dave. About how much meat can one get off of an average size beaver?
My average beaver up here in indiana has been about 34 lbs. I bet of that weight you get about 15 lbs of meat. Really good dark meat, similar to beef or deer or raccoon or bear etc.
Love ya Dave! 😁 thanks for all you do and have done. Oh! And first! Lol!
What pocket knife were you using?
Nice pelt. I assume you are going to eat that pencil sharpener. Something happen to the end of this video?
I once snared a beaver in high school. Havent had much luck since
Next question the blood we saw on the snare were did that come from I can think of 3 ways that could happen 1. it's from u dispatching the beaver,2. The snare got blood on it from the beaver trying 2 chew through it,& finally#3. The snare cut in2 the beaver as it was trying 2 get away
Head Shot
@@DavidCanterbury good to know. I was worried it suffered unnecessarily there. Nice video
Back in the 60's beavers had a much thicker coat. Its much harder to find a decent beaver these days
Yeah cause when you hunt and snare enough of them for a long enough time for their nice coats evolution phases it out kinda similar to how elephants tusk have gotten smaller or in some cases nonexistent even in males
Obrigado Dave por mais esse video.
Wich Pistol do you have?
Ruger Wrangler
Thanks for posting.
I too appreciate a fine beaver
so awesome
1st What up man? You are awesome! 👌
I love beaver
Hey Mr. Canterbury, Can't see where anyone is going "LIVE" for New Years. Just sayin"
Something went wrong...the last few minutes was a black screen...
Are we all not just trying to trap a beaver every now and again
Good stuff 👍😃✌️🇺🇸
Why would you kill a beaver? Aren't they healthy for the ecosystem?
Not when they back your water supplies up and Destroy trees that are one of you most valuable resources
i wish i coulda sent you a tub of this for christmas www.haupysbeaverrub.ca/recipes.html
try it out. Haupy's beaver steak spice rub... they have Moose Rub as well. and they have recipes for your wild game on the page i linked. happy eats.
Tighten up the loop & not so close to the ground you'll get a lot less body catches
Yep
Use drowners and your snares are reusable.
Not always if you get a body catch, and that requires carrying a bit more stuff in, if I was going that route I would just as soon carry a 330
@@DavidCanterbury I always have 11 ga wire with me and use what is available on the bank. I see your point though.
And another thing.. Do you delete all the negative crap. So that all the look good?
Beavers are destructive, costly animals. Timber killers!
