I'm pretty sure that there's a video of a caught beaver being processed.
I know there's coyotes and rabbits and coons and squirrels and I don't know what all on older videos, plus a lot of them being cooked and eaten.
90 some odd trapping vids IIRC

Dave, have you ever sat a drowned? Drowning rigging for Bieber I have and it worked good. I don't know if you have ever tried one of them or not. You can use a snare or a leg. Hold on that question if I remember remembering some of the things that I used to trap.

That was informative right there. Could you show the the skinning and meat harvest off of it and collecting the castor in a video. I'm very interested in being able to eat it and what cuts are made to avoid tainted meat. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us

  • @204orin

great catch! A few comments, cost wise, you can have about 20-30 snares for the price of 1 conibear. If you miss with a snare, no big deal, miss with a conibear and most likely you will have a trap smart beaver that you will not catch with a conibear ever. On a lighter note, I'd like to see you eat that beaver in one meal,,,haha.

Theres a fine line between too small and they push it out of the way and too big and they get body snared instead of neck . I used to trap foxes and coons on the old farm and it does take a bit of trial and error to fine tune it .

Very educational and down to the point- I appreciate this. I do my outdoor activities in period clothing but I came up working at a Boy Scout camp, spending my summers there teaching classes and whatnot.
Unfortunately, firearms and actual trapping were not allowed, though I did lead demos with big old-school traps. I always wished I could carry a muzzleloader and set some real traps in the backcountry.
Keep this video series up and I might just have to get into actual trapping 😆 thanks for dropping your knowledge for the rest of us.

My average beaver up here in indiana has been about 34 lbs. I bet of that weight you get about 15 lbs of meat. Really good dark meat, similar to beef or deer or raccoon or bear etc.

Next question the blood we saw on the snare were did that come from I can think of 3 ways that could happen 1. it's from u dispatching the beaver,2. The snare got blood on it from the beaver trying 2 chew through it,& finally#3. The snare cut in2 the beaver as it was trying 2 get away
