- VACATION TIME! In this video, Me Jen, and Gus revisit Phoenix and pick up our old faithful 1962 Ford Econoline van (aka Gail The Snail). I was a mechanic in Flagstaff for quite a few years. It was very common to have motor homes and one ton pickups towed in with fuel starvation. It was most often just vapor lock caused by heat soak from the hard climb into Flagstaff. The fuel line ran on the inside of the frame rail and the frame would get too hot to touch! The problem got worse in the spring when it first got warm. Gas stations at lower elevations would still have winter bend fuel (which vaporizes at lower temps for cold starting). A hot day with hot fuel lines at high altitude combined to leave you stranded.

You have huge balls driving that old beater in the Arizona heat.. love the gussman, chillest doggo on the internet. Those roads/tunnels you were biking on near Lake Mead was a railroad for he construction of the Hoover Dam back in the 30’s

I've been watching your channel since 2020. I recently started watching with my 13 and 9yr old boys. Its great to show them a no nonsense, commonsense approach to life. I'm from Ireland, living in Wisconsin, my 13 yr loves American muscle cars now.

I caught the membership video this morning. I have been a tech at a subaru dealership for 20 years. I used to think watching RUclips videos about working on cars was ridiculous. I started watching your channel just before the fury video a couple years ago. Your content, editing (& drone footage!), knowledge, hoarding of old parts and using old techniques all really hit home with me. I was glad to pay to be a member. Wow. My dad had a 66 Dodge snubnosed van. We took that thing with a 225 slant 6, all the way to Minnesota and back from Missouri. We had lots of gear and people too. Lol good times.

You two are adorable. I loved the combination travel vid, mechanical upgrade/maintenance vid, event vid with off road side by side, and ebike adventures. Your drone use was excellent. It made me wanna check out the southwest and enjoy some of the places you went. I loved Jen's energy on the mural and how sweet and encouraging Chris was about it. Gus is quite an amazing and loving sidekick to all your adventures. The best part is how genuine you both are. Your singing Jen is really beautiful. Keep it up...the way you two interact and seem to trust one another in such a simple, decent way is really inspiring. You seem to feed one another's passions really well. Some beautiful scenery, love the little pups barks and the good ole days when i drove my old 73 stubby van i bought from Centel phone company everywhere. 240 6cyl, 3spd on column and always made tin can popping sounds because it was basically a tin can but once i swapped out the 4.11 gears for 3.45s it was a sweet cruiser, i could run 75-80 and wasnt revved out. Enjoy the vids, take care and rub the poochs belly for me

You were so close. Cool little town just down the road from railroad pass called Nelson. Just past Nelson is an old abandoned mine where there are all kinds of old vehicles and antique stuff sitting out in the open. You’d love it. You could spend hours looking around

Chris, I appreciate the fact that you and Jen can enjoy a trip in an old vehicle and take it as it comes, break downs and all. You have skills that will come in handy some day when the yogurt hits the fan and old cars will be a primary form of transportation, at least for a while. You all stay safe.
Hi Chris and Jen…thank you for keeping this old gal Gail on the road. My dad drove one of these for Ohio Bell 🔔 Telephone back in the 1960s. These old work vans mean a lot to us “Bell Brats!!”

Hey Chris and Jen, I want to thank you for the content you put out, your gail the snail videos inspired me to deal with a breakup by heading out to Arizona for a hiking trip. I met so many amazing people and grew as a person. I have no idea when this was filmed, but its possible we were in AZ at the same time, the highway near Sedona had just about as much snow on it when I was there too. You guys are the best!
I like how Chris said the motel was dog and trucker friendly. We are like dogs, the sleeper is like a doghouse, we chase cars up and down the highway and pee on tires.

And yes, we also love to travel in "ancient" retro cars)) In 2015, we went on our honeymoon with my wife. We had a Nissan Caravan E24, an old diesel bus that had a hard time climbing high mountains, but the beauty of the surrounding nature made this trip and all subsequent trips unforgettable .

You guys seem to have more fun out west than back east. I'd be torn if you move out here. I like seeing the sights where you live since I've never been there. Nice to see Boulder City Nevada. I grew up there in the 60s and 70s. I used to take my paycheck to be cashed at railroad pass casino when I was a teenager with my first job. Casinos back then wanted to cash your paycheck no matter where you worked so you would be in their casino with cash in hand and maybe spend it gambling. I did it a lot because you if you let them cash your check, you got one spin on a roulette wheel for a chance to double your check with no risk of losing your paycheck. Then I'd eat the .99¢ prime rib buffet. Ah, the 70s were great.

You can't leave a vehicle for any extended period of time without getting mice in it. Heck, I pulled the tarp off on mine the other day and found mouse crap on the cabover. It's been covered 3 months. Call me crazy but I don't think you will find an old or even new RV that has been sitting for very long without mice droppings in it.
I'm sure the guy vacuumed the bulk of mice poop up before you arrived.
I’m a huge MORR fan and when they asked for people to participate you were actually one of the couple names I gave. If they do it the same way next year inviting non off-road channels I bet you’ll get an invite. Also, you got me drooling at the end when you peaked a K30 rollback out your door. Those are my favorite trucks in the world.
Funny thing Chris. I had a dream that we were hanging out, following a large tornado. During all the chaos, you kept it cool with that NNKH vibe.

Enjoyed your video. I currently live on the Oregon coast, moved here a few years ago from Vegas. I was a native to Vegas of 57 years and have been to all those places you went to multiple times. Also a life long cyclist and have ridden the RMT - River Mountain Trail endless times, love it!

I really enjoy all of your videos. The travel vlogs even more. This one hit close to home for me. I have stayed at the same Best Western in Flagstaff several times and drove across northern Arizona including Sedona last fall. Laughlin was indeed an inexpensive little gem on the Colorado River. After seeing your video, I'm ready to go back again!
