    So very few true philosophers have emerged in this new century. It is not overly emotional to weep at the possible loss of Western Civilization, and with it, a rejection of our Creator. The silent agony of watching something so precious being smothered from enemies abroad and within. God Bless you, sir. If your health is in a dire place, please rest knowing you've reached so many, and will continue too with your works.

    • @kevinhornbuckle
      @kevinhornbuckle 8 лет назад +3

      Why do you associate "our creator" with Western civilization. This is an instance of man creating god in his image.

    • @spracketskooch
      @spracketskooch 8 лет назад +6

      Kevin, what's your point? Man created god as a symbolic representation of the human spirit. Western civilization is the best humanity has ever done as far as we know. So what's wrong with wanting to protect it , to the point of being moved to tears at the thought of it's loss, and knowing full well the suffering that loss will entail?

We need you, please be kind to yourself and get some rest. you can't help anybody if you're sick. sending you all my prayers for this new year so you can replenish and continue your great work. with love and gratitude.

      This. I noticed this in myself and I don't bear near a fraction of the burden. You need to take time off from all of it and just watch some movies and play some games. Come back with recovered strength.

      Do not watch him. Your intellectual capacity must be so small that you cannot even grasp a drop of his gift being meant also for you, as God is good to the good and to the evil alike, hoping that the evil will open their heart and receive truth, goodness and beauty. Say a little prayer asking God to augment your capacity to grasp reality and the courage and wisdom to defend life, truth, peace, freedom and love.

    Moving. impactful. I am a 23 year old graduate coming to grips with my own meaning, my own responsibility, and my productivity in my world. I came across you a couple of months ago following the debacle at UofT. That led me to look at the rest of your work. Your lectures, your discussion, your passion, is something that has only just begun to influence me, and ground me into being someone that will do what is necessary based on my values, and to be an inspiration for others in turn.
    I will follow you closely into the year 2017, and I am fortunate, like many others, to have come across you this year.
    Keep strong. Keep rested. Use the strength of the community alongside you and please don't burn out. You may not know me, or many others. But you are loved. I am grateful for your existence in this world, indeed, I am grateful for the suffering you undergo due to following your values. It inspires me to stand strong in the face of my own suffering, real and perceived, so that I may share the burden of bettering the world alongside you.
    May 2017 bring you light. Happy New Year, Prof. Peterson

    Dr. Peterson, as I watch this on the last days of 2024,I am struck with how unwell you look in this video compared to now. I have followed you and have read and listened to everything I have found by you through your journey. I ordered your book " We Who Wrestle with God" months before it was published and am reading a few pages every morning. I am listening to and watching courses in the Peterson Academy. Loved Exodus. I've listened to podcasts by your daughter and wife. There are so many gems to be mined in what you and your family have to say to the world. One piece of art in my living room is the black and white poster of Rule VIII. Happy to hear you have moved to the U.S. (we are lucky to have you), and am grateful to have discovered your videos years ago. I have grown children and grand children and love the way you speak about children and relationships. So much more I could say and I will end here. Oh, very happy to see you now looking so healthy.

I thank you for opening my long frozen heart up to the vision of the Heavenly Father and rescuing me from my own darkest nihilistic demons. With you I stand, with you I weep, with you I will fight, for you have the courage to fight and I too must wield that same courage if I wish to defend all that is Holy to the West.

    • @vancouveriste
      @vancouveriste 8 лет назад +6

      Do you know anything about the resolve Dr. Peterson has had to show while fighting the Bill C-16 battle? The number of debates and appearances he has taken part in? The stress he has had to face from his faculty and the U of T administration? The poorly thought-out shit kickings he's been subjected to from left tard so-called academics? I'm fine with a little weeping--which reflects his passion about his cause-after all he's been through.

    • @michaelconnell3778
      @michaelconnell3778 8 лет назад +6

      +J. Neville Groff I expect he's weeping for the ~100,000,000 victims murdered at the hands of the 20th century authoritarians that he has studied in great depth, and he's weeping because he sees the same shadow creeping over the West as we speak. It's probably also tears of frustration -- he knows those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it, and a great many people in the West who most certainly do not know their history seem bound and determined to continue repeating the conditions that led to the worst atrocities of human civilization -- and these things happen very suddenly. It's preventable, but human hubris knows no bounds and so we roll toward the abyss -- and that's frustrating. "Reject hubris" is another good Christian value that would be good for people to heed right about now.

  • @Chadlaking

    God bless and strengthen you Professor. God has a call on your life and is reaching for you in a way that you have yet to know. "blessed are they that do hunger and thirst after righteousness.".
    Acts 2:38 gives the answer to the question of the anguished souls who asked, " men and brethren, what shall we do?".
    I pray that you continue to follow after God's call and obey his voice.

I am also, with so many others, concerned about your health. I hope that 2017 will be a less stressful time for you, a time to be cared for, to enjoy your family and your work, to take comfort from the outpouring of love, gratitude, and affirmation you have received, and to experience spiritual renewal.

      the part that religion fills today can be filled by spirituality, conscious reawakening and compassion for one another.
      Maybe humans need to be given a question to go beyond our superficial understanding of the world... I dunno :)
      I believe its possible to have a church without having to believe in stories that may not be true... but rather believe in exploration and the importance of self expression where everyone gets to feel fulfilled.
      Im just throwing words out... I dunno if Im making myself clear... it is an idea that I havent finished yet.

    Jordan: You are a hero. You are one of the (perhaps the greatest one) heroes that visualize and clarify our Western, Judeo-Christian beliefs. Beliefs that 99.9% of us don't even know that we believe in, and in case we do, don't understand where they come from or why they matter. I'm sorry if my English isn't perfect, since it's not my native language, but I do believe you understand my message and I wish you the best of year in 2017! I have been reading the books off your reading list, first Brave New World and now am jumping between The Gulag Archipelago and Demons/Possessed. These books are horrifying but they are giving me the ability to articulate my arguments with much more complexity than ever before. Dr. Peterson, you might be one of the most inspiring persons I have ever come across in my short 20 years of life. Thank you for doing what you're doing and pease do not stop. i left the academia in 2006 where i decided not to persue a maters and later phd. as a student of fine art and having read perfusely all of the postmodern philosophers' great works, and realisinng the state of suspense it all results in, and truely seeing the inherent problem lurking in the corner. the hipocracy then with which these academics wished to push their destructive doctrines emboldening victim culture etc. My thesis was going to be on the subject you so brilliantly navigate, and so I thought I'd mention just how much I stand by you, personally. If you need anything in the way of illustration/art, I would gladly offer my services pro bono. thanks again for being you

    After watching hours and hours of your lectures, I came to your letter to the world. It has upset me simply because you seem so upset and have obviously lost weight and aren't feeling well. Your thoughts, your ideas about how to make the world better, are spot on in my mind. I admire your courage to tell the world what you think, to share your wisdom, unpopular though it may be to some. Be assured there are many many of us who are cheering for you. I have been challenged and inspired by your teaching and the conclusions you draw from your studies. I want to continue to study "with" you. Please take care of yourself. You are a treasure.

    I have been meaning to write this man an email. I'm not the "fan letter" type. I've just been so profoundly confused and miserable for so long, and he has lately been helping see a way through it. I hate to say such things about someone I've never met, but I believe he's the worthiest (and one of the only) role model I've had. I have to extend my gratitude.

    Dear Jordan
    The last couple of months I have been following your battle against pc culture and fight for our freedom of speech in western civilisation and I cannot find a single man I have admired more the last couple of years than you. You are in my opinion one of the bravest, heroic and wisest people I have ever heard of. I'm not just talking about your debates against the countless waves of social justice warriors, where your strong arguments cut ferociously through their bullshit - like watching Mike Tyson in his prime battle a common drunk bar brawler! I have also taken liking to your many lectures on youtube and your podcasts. You have made a huge impact on my way of thinking and understanding the world as it once was and why things are the way they are now, and more importantly how things might evolve if we do not protect the many values and virtues you talk about in your lectures.
    That said, it worries me to see you in this mental and physical state you're in at the moment. It saddens me to see how much it has taken a toll on you.
    When I was in the army, one of the few things I learned from one of the drill sergents that I still live by to this day, is that "a dead hero can't save any lives!". You have been at front of this battle for so long and even though you might be one of the people most fit to fight this battle, I would rather see you take a long and deserved leaf of absence from your fight against pc cultures and all your youtube content (how important it may be) than to permanently lose you.
    Please take care of yourself, thank you for everything you have shared with the rest of the world so far and a happy new year to you and your family!
    Sincerely
    Tonny de Lasson, Denmark.

    I just read this today. Seeing you suffer is difficult and yet this is a personification of what you believe: life is suffering and relieving this suffering comes with a higher ideal and embracing the responsibilities that come with the attainment of this ideal. I am 70 and your work had assisted me to manage to live in a world that can be so frightening. Your tears are the tears of a prophet. I hope you are getting the rest you need and feel the care that so many of us send your way. Thank you for all you have done to make the world better.

    Watching this I'm reminded of Nietzsche's warning to “Take care philosophers and friends of knowledge, and beware of martyrdom! Of suffering ‘for the sake of truth’! Even of defending yourselves!” in Beyond Good and Evil. In the 1970's my grandfather was dismissed from his job as a hospital administrator after stubbornly refusing to allow cigarette companies to place advertisements and patients to smoke in his hospital, despite orders to the contrary from his superiors. After his termination he continued to criticize the hospital board and to insist on the harmfulness of having private companies, in particular those producing products harmful even to healthy people, hold such weight within a hospital. The result of this was that he was relentlessly hounded and ridiculed, brought into ignominy because of an opinion that today would be universally accepted as righteous. The tole of being attacked and of speaking the truth to a willfully deft audience was so great that he fell ill and died in 1980. Now, around the U of T campus I read articles in student newspapers mocking your opinion without even listening to what it is. I hear intelligent and passionate friends of mine dismiss and attack you because they've reacted too strongly to their perception of your ideas to register what you're saying; they fall instead into an indulgent self-righteousness. Even in the comments section here, people pass your words off as lunacy simply because you use the vocabulary of religion; however, there are still people, and lots of them, who listen and who think. I hope to always count myself among them and to make a conscious effort to be responsible for myself. I want to thank you because you have made me think about things that I wouldn't otherwise have thought about. I hope that becoming a public figure doesn't become too heavy of a burden on you. Happy New Year.

      Peterson seldom smiles or laughs anymore, but starts crying in the middle of sentences. Our dear psychology professor comes across lately as a physical and emotional wreck. Telling people to take responsibility is all well and good; telling people to take the weight of the world on their shoulders, though, is terrible advice. It is itself a form of fanaticism or mania that can be highly destructive. I agree with Peterson on a lot of topics, but he seriously needs to take stock, take a rest, and look to his mental and physical health. This video was painful to witness. Other of Peterson's videos suggest he is a fan of Nietzsche, but this display was one of the least Nietzschean things I've ever seen. There's a man who understood what Christianity could do to a mind.

      +Atheist Anti-SJW in the last several of years I myself have discovered personally that there is such a thing as a pathological compassion or altruism which underneath is a form of codependency. And certain Christian traditions and also in the traditions of Buddhism which can stoke this kind of mindset, with a martyr or bodhisattva complex. And look what's happening in Germany and some of the other European countries with this kind of pathological altruism.

    • @angledcoathanger
      @angledcoathanger 8 лет назад +37

      grosbeak I wouldn't describe this as such though. I think to diagnose pathology in this case is wholly unjustified.
      There are situations where one's combination of expertise and life experience facilitate a unique and valuable insight into a serious situation, and people often, justifiably, have a responsibility to share those insights.
      I think this is more a matter of having stared into the abyss a little too long.

    He teaches the avoidance of ideologies, the pursuit of self, better than anyone i can recall. He would not want us to guess wildly about his health- we should await facts. His message in this video is one of profound personal integrity, attention to our conscious, individual responsibility, and a tortured reminder that these "duties" come from the concept of the Divine, which has shaped the magnificent history of the West. powerful speech by a good man. I honestly didn't think I could respect Professor Peterson any more than I already did, but this video has proven me wrong. He seems so composed and logical in all of his interviews and videos, but in this one I feel like I can see how compassionate and caring he is about the world and the society we live in. I can see how it affects him personally and how much he cares about people, especially the ones who may disagree with him. I am confident that future generations, particularly in Canada, will look back at Peterson and realize what an important voice he was for reason and unity in the face of so much division and hate. It fills me with joy to see that so many people already appreciate him for what he is, and I will redouble my efforts in sharing his voice. I live in Toronto so my hope to meet him and tell him how important he is to me and others is not too difficult to achieve, and I will make sure I do so as soon as possible.

    Dr. Peterson, I admire your courage and do not use that word loosely. I am a physics professor that enjoys his anonymity (it is the Internet of which I am accustomed).
    You both enamor and inspire me. Facing a brooding mob of malcontents in Toronto is where I first learned about you; it was a colleague that sent me the video. Sir, I was in awe.
    I have watched countless Hitchens debates over the years and reveled in his mastery of the vernacular of the elite mind. But in a pre-debate interview, done via camera phone, there was a person asking Hitchens questions concerning an upcoming debate with a man of whom I had never heard: William Lane Craig. Hitchens' tone in his answers were less than his usually confident retort. He said that his friends posited such questions as "you can beat him, right?"
    William Lane Craig was and is a true linguist: A master of language. Hitchens acknowledged this and it raised my curiosity as to who was this man.
    As I watched a few of his videos, I saw him making salient and eloquent points. He was prepared, calm, and frightfully precise in honing in on specifics. I found William Lane Craig to be fascinating.
    With that being said, I am an atheist. I do not advocate for atheism, it is just my belief.
    With all my loquacious jibber jabber aside, my expression of sincerity is this: You and Sam Harris having a debate would be phenomenal. I would not care who won the debate, since watching it would make the viewer the winner. We would all benefit from the knowledge forthcoming from such an event.
    Please seek rest and better your health. I do not cheer you on to 'win' such a debate; I recommend rest because I want your faculties to be at full potential when you do.
    Regards and Happy New Year.

Your videos woke me up, peaked my interest in philosophy, improved my understanding of myself, my role in society and in life. Your writing program has and continues to improve my mental state, wellbeing and focus. What my culture and family have failed to convey to me (for some justifyable reasons), you've done from more than 7kkm away. I can honestly say I feel like a stronger person, a grown up man, and finally a positive influence on my family and surroundings, in no small part thanks to your influence. Really hoping your illness is nothing serious. May you and your family have an awesome and happy new year!

    Petersen, God love you Brother. I have been following your attack since it's inception. Watching it conflagurate as you stood like an old oak in the forest. You stand strong, steadfast. But the fire ebbs steadily. My Daughter attends UofT and your prescence there gives me some solace, but the actions of the faculty and management shows the path which led to the fire. If you leave I will have a very easy choice to make on her education. I pray for you and ask Christ to protect you and to give you strength to accompany your wisdom and courage already granted. Stand strong and never underestimate the call for help, for as a man I believe many stand beside you, myself as one and above all never doubt Jesus Christ does carry you. Continue brother, but give your trouble to Christ to carry. I love you as a man and brother. You are a man of our time Petersen. Thank you.
