- This is a fascinating talk given by Jordan Peterson, a University of Toronto Psychologist. He discusses the metaphysics underlying both religious narrative and human cognition. I believe this talk was given at the Templeton Foundation around the year 2000. It took a lot of work to get this uploaded, and was eventually transferred from google video to youtube.

Nobel Prizes usually aren't given for people who deserve them.
Do you want to give this rambling crank Nobel prize? For what? I would love to see evidence for his statements. Seriously I would love to see any evidence for one thing that he says that even resembles reality. I love the dead eyed look on his face as he talks. It’s basically just stream of consciousness nonsense. It’s small wonder that someone had to fight for him to get the position at the University of Toronto because Peterson couldn’t get it on his own merits.

Do you wanna know what I think is hilarious? Is that C 16 if you actually bother to read the bill has nothing to do with compelled or forced speech. It just protects trans people from discrimination. That’s it.
Not one single person has been arrested in Canada for not using preferred pronouns. Not one. So essentially what this means is that Peterson either did not read bill 16, which is actually probable given that he didn’t even bother to read any Marxist theory when he debated an actual Marxist philosopher, I should say more accurately Hegelian philosopher.
So I think, suffice to say, a conclusion that I can draw is that Jordan Peterson? He might very well be just a very verbose crank.

@@baddreams3850 but here’s the thing… Not one single person was imprisoned or even remotely charged with a crime for not addressing a trans person by their preferred pronouns. According to Peterson… That was an evitable. But here we are almost 8 years later. Nothing. Is it perhaps possible that Peterson was… Incorrect?

You could have been talking about Christ and I would not have known the difference. His courage to take upon him his mantle, it is a light to the world. His recent work with the Bible has been truly excellent. What he's really saying is we need a bunch of Jordan Peterson's
Forgive me Jordan Peterson is nothing but barely recovering alcoholic, a barely recovered benzodiazepine addict, and basically a charlatan that speaks rather deceptively and relies upon his exploitation of the easily fooled in order to have some validation for his nonsensical arguments.
He is not some tortured mind. He’s a mentally unwell man. And the funniest part about him is that he didn’t get his position at the University of Toronto because he was good at his job. He only got it because someone else fight for his appointment. He’s not famous for any kind of contribution to psychology. He’s only famous because he lied about federal bill.

There's a greater density in this talk compared to some of the more recent versions and I love every minute of it.

I have a lot of respect for Einstein and Feynman, this guy however goes genius in realtime.
There's something comfy about watching Peterson changing the acetate on the overhead projector, takes me back to before smart boards where a thing.

One of the finest speeches/presentations I have ever seen him give (online). Surprised it has only 5,300 views. It's a very concise, coherent, and "to the point" presentation of basically everything Jordan Peterson knows and believes. Brilliant!

How can I show a mind exploding? His words are so academic, yet as blue collar as I am I profoundly understand his words. I Hear You. I don't just hear you but ok hear the words. Am I alone?

You do realize why he wiggles his fingers and waves his hands do you not? He does this because it’s a business school training tactic. It’s meant, as odd as it may seem, to distract the person who is listening to what you were saying. It’s meant to seem that what you were saying is somehow relevant. And nothing Peterson says here is relevant. Peterson is a crank. That is exactly why he is not famous for his psychological research. He is not famous for his work as a professor. He isn’t even famous for his self-help bullshit.

@@theQuestion626 lol I didn't say anything about what Dr. Peterson said. You will probably disregard this, but I think that nobody believes in contradictions. People believe in lies because there is truth mixed in them. The point is to separate out the truth. So one can even learn from a crank by paying attention. And cranks may not have much truth, but they may just have some truth that nobody else has managed to find.

@@theQuestion626 I think you missed what I said earlier. I'm not defending him. I don't really take sides. I'm saying you can still learn from someone misguided. Pythagoras was in many ways a 'crank', but his foundational work on geometry and number theory remains.
Edit: to clear something up, what I mean by contradiction is not contradictory or paradoxical beliefs, but 'purer' contradictions such as "P and not P" for some statement P, nestled within conflicting beliefs

Are you comparing Peterson to Pythagoras? Here’s the thing… Pythagoras was proven correct. Peterson has yet to be proven correct about anything that he says. Do you want to know something interesting? His entire nonsense about Bill C 16 has yet to bear fruit. Not one single person has been imprisoned for falsely addressing a trans individual by their preferred pronouns. That was literally the core of his entire argument about that nonsense.

In his twitter feed today JBP said this about this specific video: "Why you might be Christ: a neuropsychological Perspective… The most outrageous title I ever Dared Offer At a scientific conference." Does anyone know specifically why he posted the link for this video...or why he described it this way (nowhere in the title is 'Christ' mentioned)?
In the opening of the talk he said something about that other title. Maybe he uses it in his overhead slides. He makes a conclusion that comes back to that thesis in the end. I don't have any idea why he might have posted the link now. It's a very interesting talk though.

The stresses that JP has lived through would take a gigantic toll on any person physically and psychologically, especially the last 7 years. Luckily, he didn't die. He has also managed to lose weight and keep it off.
