Keep up the technical content Jack, it beats the actual current day racing any day! Really appreciate the intimate insights into the Perkins Engineering!
Hey jack, really do enjoy the content mate, the no hoist suprised me a little but thinkn about it , your dad running all those wheel nuts for so long use to blow me away also, a true grass roots ledgand in so many eyes, honestly an era of V8,s that that will never be replicated , keep it up !!
Great and simple video on a pretty important component. It was fantastic to see you and your old man racing around Phillip Island on the weekend too. Thanks to you both for being out there.
This is a great Era off Racing tuff Cars well made Harrop case love the Australian Made stuff just good a lot more simple car and great Racing, also Jack great work love the RUclips site cheers Mick.
Well done Jack. What about showing us the locked diff assembly and why not use a LSD or auto locking diff. I was impressed with the way you attended to father Larry at the recent Phillip Island historics meet. You made sure he was strapped in and ready to go well before time all before you got into your car. It was very enjoyable to see those cars in action again. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Deane. We covered off the build of our diff ratios quite extensively on our Facebook and Instagram. The diffs are “locked” through a spool and those rules were implemented in 1993. Detroit Lockers and other diffs have been sampled over the years but V8Supercars stuck with the spool.
G'day Jack, Great video it's great seeing how different parts are changing in and out for different tracks. But I can't even say that you got your hands dirty everything was so clean. Even the oil was spotless. So thanks for sharing man. ✌🏻 Peace.
@@perkinsengineering my 63 beetle is spotlessly clean top to bottom. Maybe all the vw beetle owners on the channel could have a meet and greet with Larry's bug. 😁
So beautifully presented everything is emasculate. That just brings back memories of crawling around under mates cars changing diff centres. Bet you can’t do that job that easily on a transaxle. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻🙃🙃
Top stuff Jack👍 Great to hear those Perkins chevs still sounding nice and crisp. Hope you got a nice little engine episode coming out for us all sometime?
Hi I'm really enjoying this type of video I'm surprised that you use such high ratio diffs 3.7 is the highest available for my MG Midget and I'm using a 4.5 for sprint and hillclimbs is the gearbox gearing very low?
Hi Jack. So when you say that the differential is a Ford 9 inch, do you mean that is the size with the diff housing and parts made by Harrop etc or is the differential an actual unit made by Ford?
You barely mentioned the "Camber Wedge". Am i to assume that the alloy block houses a wheel bearing and the faces of said block are wedge shaped inducing camber into the rear wheels . and that the axle has a hefty cv joint next to the wheel bearing??? C'mon more detail please. What about unsprung weight?
Great Video as normal But Does take the piss re Holden V Ford when it has a Ford Diff lol And to all i know for many years the cars are all the same with different body kits aka Nas car
They were definitely better days of racing than today . To much aero these days with no passing. Thanks for sharing Jack.👍

@@TheTobes99 true that !!
This is so interesting Jack! Keep up the videos in 2023 mate!
I love the simplicity. Standard cross and roller uni joint, no mucking about with a fancy CV uni!

Great detail Jack, always enjoy watching the videos you create. Hope the leg heals quickly mate.
So not just handy behind the wheel but handy with the spanners as well hey jack 👍👍👍
awesome job Jack, great content showing the workings of the car. cheers

This is amazing so cool to hear it run sounds amazing love these supercars hopefully one day there will be a legends touring car series
Great work Jack. So interesting.

Its amazing now a VR is classed as a historic!
Did we come to a bit of mischief with our left foot nice moon boot
Vastly different to changing the diff ratio in a road car and so much easier. Nice to know how it's done. Nice job at S.M.P as well Jack.
Thanks

Love your work, Jack 👍
We also use Ozito heat guns on our sites, to heat up flashing tape. Best and cheapest electric heat gun I have ever used.
Yeah we haven’t had a drama with ours!
Thanks Jack. The cars looked and sounded a million dollars at Philip Island Historics!
Omg that sound & throttle bleeps can we hear more please 😃
Cool thanks
Never had a hoist! I see thriftiness is a family value 😏
That noise …. 🤤
How was the PI Classic ? will you do a video of the weekend ? keep up the great work.
It was great. Didn’t have enough spare hands or time to make a proper video but we will do one!
Top stuff Jack👍
Great to hear those Perkins chevs still sounding nice and crisp.
Hope you got a nice little engine episode coming out for us all sometime?
Hopefully soon yes!
All that good gear and then shock horror out comes the Brrrunniings special Ozito heat gun. Have to start a go fund me page to replace that 😂
Haha heat gun is a heat gun surely
To me it only seems like yesterday that car was racing, so I'm having a lot of trouble getting my head around racing it in historics
JP.. great video and detail on the car!
ps.. what weight diff oil you use? 75w80 or heavier like a 140w?
Castrol SAF-XA 80w140
Thanks Jack, do you torque the diff bolts up?
Jack, what brand or make are the floor/jack stands the car is sitting on? Supplier?
Nice moonboot
Noce vid Jack and what happened to the foot
Fractured a bone

I'm really enjoying this type of video
I'm surprised that you use such high ratio diffs 3.7 is the highest available for my MG Midget and I'm using a 4.5 for sprint and hillclimbs
is the gearbox gearing very low?
Gear ratios were controlled. 3.7 shortest ratio, Bathurst was 3.25 and then 3.15
@@perkinsengineering ah ok I hadn't thought of the ratios being specified by the rules
Thanks for the insight
Just out of curiosity, do you still use endless pads from japan?
Well we aren’t an active race team so we don’t use many brake pads. With our restorations we use the pads that we used during that period
Hey jack great video as always just wondering what happened to your foot did it happen after the ride day at Phillip island?
Fractured a bone in my foot 3 weeks ago
@@perkinsengineering oh ouch how did you go at Phillip island to drive a supercar that would of hurt did it
@@copper44 all good, it’s only the clutch foot, drove Erebus car at Winton and SMP before the weekend
@@perkinsengineering oh right we’ll that’s good then at least in these modern Supercars you don’t need the clutch
Hi Jack. So when you say that the differential is a Ford 9 inch, do you mean that is the size with the diff housing and parts made by Harrop etc or is the differential an actual unit made by Ford?
It's a Ford 9" Morrison v8 supercar diff housing made by MSF racing components .
Did that generation log speed? If so, what do you need to change when the diff ratio is altered?
Yes wheel speed was/is calculated from the front wheel
A hoist is cheap and your work is easier cleaner and more visible
I can't believe you don't have a hoist
Haha we never had a hoist, since 1986. Red Bull Racing/888 don’t have hoists either! Hoists don’t win you races
Hi Jack whats up with the leg
Fractured a bone in my foot
Hooks for brakes are quicker than cable tie, 99% on the time.
Except when you don’t have a hook 🤣
No hoist? Tell Sir Larry he is a tight wad.
Ozito heat guns are funny things, dad put 2 in the rubbish in 1 day whilst my boss made one last for years hard abuse????

Pretty sure Jack did a video a while back about the camber wedges
