Chris, Thanks so much, for sharing the video! I too am a seasoned ID but have not used AI. I am in process of learning it. As good as I am, I'm a little intimidated by it but know that it could amply what I bring, even more. This is my first time seeing your videos and I hope that, maybe, some of your other videos may have some tutorials.... ;)
I'd be honored to actually speak with you some day. ID guy to ID guy. hahaa.....
Much success to you on your journey as well.

Very interesting Video! Ai is such a great tool for product design! Impressive what can be done already!! I work in the watch industry and I must say it's much harder to get useful result for that kind of product.. it's several month I'm working on that and only now I get some useful results that are more than just inspirational. I created tons of concepts, but they need a lot of work to get translated into something that can be presented or even produced.
Mood images and design concepts are much easier.
Context images (wristwhots for inserting watches) are doable, but a lot of trial and error is needed.
Ai is evolving at a blazing speed! I'm very curious what will come in the next months and years.
By now I must say, watches have too many details and technical constrains.. it will take some time to have Ai to be really helpful..

That's interesting to hear and thanks for your comments. Maybe look into stable diffusion so you can run more options at any one time.

Hi Phil, the bike frame on 6:03 is absolutely amazing. Is there any chance you could share how the image was created especially with those beautifully cut-out variations? Many thanks!

Hi Tom, thanks for the comment. I’ll look up the prompts I used and I’m considering doing a tutorial video soon!

@@ProductInnovationAcademy thanks for the response. I was reading up about stable diffusion to customize localized designs. (Like putting the hollow holes towards the steering side of the frame for instance. ) Did you use this in your creation?
A good topic that I'd be interested in would be an exercise to create interesting hollow out pockets for skateboard decks so it is not carrying extra weight and looks like what it does. Was hoping to see more info about prompted engineering (FEA based product design?) but not much luck so far.
Thanks again for sharing your thoughts Phil.

@@tomwang6120 I’ve only just started looking at stable diffusion for this type of thing. I’m not sure it, or Midjourney, are the right platforms though unless what you’re looking for is a purely aesthetic approach? If the design is functional and about retained strength whilst reducing weight then you’re going to need to work with professional cad software and ai instead…

Enjoyed your video a lot! Have you explored Stylar AI? It focuses on logo, 3D, and interior design, with image upload and auto prompt options. It’s in the early stages, but could be a great tool for enhancing your work.

Thank you, this is really helpful to get a clearer idea of how to make good use of AI in the product design (for which I read "problem-solving") process. One question I have relating to what you've previously described as "the Google Trap" when researching a product idea (inadvertently revealing that idea into the public domain via the search terms): is that a risk also using ChatGPT and MidJourney etc.. , due to them being online applications? How do you use these without revealing a new idea?
I really like the use of MJ to create a moodboard too. I'll share the link to this with the Tech teachers at the school I work at. Thanks again.

Thanks for your comment Chris. I believe that everything on discord is public domain and therefore at risk of being disclosed and breaching any NDA a designer has signed or their employment contract. You can set up your own server but I believe this isn’t guarantee to keep your inputs confidential.
For a lot of products this isn’t an issue as a text description doesn’t reveal unique IP (think new watch design) but for some new product ideas this will be a problem. I’m launching a video on this really soon.
There is also a question about the who owns the IP of anything generated by AI and this has wide implications including for people selling ai art. If using ai for inspiration or to form the basis of something you further develop then this problem goes away.

Thank you, this is really helpful. I'm really interested in getting Midjourney to create an image of design sketches on a white paper as you have shown here. However, I am struggling to get it to do this as you have using "blue pencil on white paper". Do you have any tips on getting it to generate this consistently with your design brief?

    • @ProductInnovationAcademy

try prompts such as: "different angles, artistic sketches" "artistic sketches blue pencil on white paper" "pencil sketch style" "sketched style" "sketched using blue pencil on white paper"

It’s best to use ChatGPT to generate prompts that you can put into mid journey. Midjourney does images while ChatGPT is just text really.

    • @ProductInnovationAcademy
      @ProductInnovationAcademy  Год назад

It is pretty standard for manufacturers to insist on prototype models and often manufacturing specifications before they can produce your product ideas. The critical thing is to design the product for cost effective production and this will often require an experienced, senior designer or design team even. Prototype models are expensive and so make sure you validate your concept first - here's a link to my pdf guide: www.design2market.co.uk/lp-content/download-validating-a-new-idea/
