    We needed James Wan to Direct this movie and that's a shame he has to be the only man who can make a good horrror movie these days

      @@monsterzero4326 both James Wan and Jordan peele are one of the best modern day horror movie directors. The only difference with Jordan peele is that his movies have a good blend of comedic moments which is not a bad thing. But if it came down to choose I would say James Wan cause his horror movies are pure horror.

    The jump scare u made in ur intro was scarier than the actual fucking movie.

  • @Flip_91FTW
    @Flip_91FTW 5 лет назад +9

    For me the worst thing is that they changed the way Valak looks in The Nun and it just looks like some monster dressed in a Nun costume instead of looking like an actual demonic nun like it does in the conjuring 2.
    That one shot in conjuring 2 of Valak just standing at the end of a lit hallway in the house was way scarier looking than any scene involving Valak in its own spin off movie.
    Let James Wan direct a Nun movie if there must be another one. Otherwise please just let the character go. Lol

  • @brendan722002

    These jump scares have been used to the point of desensitising the audience. And with good actors their performance can only carry it so far - if the story or script, pacing, editing or studio interference is thrown into the equation then the final product can end up a steaming pile of shit.

    • @candypietravels
      @candypietravels 6 лет назад +3

      How they have wack ass jump scares when in the preview that jump scare was like the best one out of the whole movie

    • @brendan722002
      @brendan722002 6 лет назад +1

      It is an old trick studios have used, even in old classics. Particularly bad movies. The jump scare has been a recently refined technique in films. Unfortunately they have over-used it and it has no effect like it used to have.

    I love how they used ‘RUclips removed our ad because it was too scary’ to promote their movie.
    When it was simply because it had a ‘jumpscare’ in it.

    Two words. JUMP SCARES. Mad, cause trailer was so good, and expected to see a movie that would intrigue me as The Conjuring 1 and 2 did.
    The movie itself was so predictive, and never had the chance to actually get into the story. It had some comedy, and that would even make me to not take the story seriously.
    Disappointed.

    I actually quite liked this movie, I agree the ending was very clever. One scene I really liked was when the nuns were all praying in the room together and valak rips the shirt off the nun and cuts into her, very out there to show the blatant disrespect and distain to the light so to speak. Yeah a lot of jump scares but I felt it explained the back story well but yes they should not of relied on jump scares. I also liked the scene with the priest ringing the bell and the good nun had to tune into her vision to help him, it was good watching her embracing what she can do

    That intro scared me more than most of the scares in The Nun. That said, I didn't mind the movie. When Annabelle: Creation, my second favorite horror movie of last year (after It) was released, my expectations were extremely high. Annabelle: Creation was a HUGE surprise coming after Annabelle. The Nun had an excellent soundtrack, great cinematography, and great acting. Valak itself was creepy every time it was on screen. The way the movie ends was also cool! Everything else is dull. The jump scares (most of them) failed, the logic is out of the window, and the movie being a prequel kind of ruins the ending knowing that Valak returns. The Nun is my 4th favorite movie in The Conjuring universe. Below The Conjuring 1, 2, and Creation, but a good bit above Annabelle. Disappointing but not garbage.

    Hey, I just found your channel, and I have to say that I think you’re one of the best “movie review” channels on RUclips.
    Between you actually being a horror fanboy and giving the videos more than just two minutes for a shitty review, I really appreciate what you’re doing.
    On that note, please check out Murder Party. I got it over ten years ago for $4 when Movie Gallery was closing down, and it’s probably my favorite horror movie. Horror/Black Comedy I guess.
    Anyway, it’s on Netflix and I’m ecstatic that other people can finally watch it. I think it is super underrated and more people need it in their lives.
    Please review Murder Party!

    Loved the look of the castle, the nun demon looked good and the acting was decent but to me the problem was the pacing and the over abundance of jump scares,
    Good horror movies know when to built tension and then know when to ease off the tension,
    I felt like there wasn't any decent down time, it was all constant build up to small pay offs, the nun demon kept appearing/disappearing much too often...
    But I did enjoy how they connected it to the the rest of the series.

    This movie pissed me off SO bad. First of all...my little horror loving heart was thrilled to have both this and Halloween coming out within a month of each other. Add Hellfest to it, which felt like it was going to be very Scream-ish and I was so excited. Imagine my surprise when it was Hellfest that left me the least disappointed. The Nun was just bad and Halloween I overhyped myself. Valek scared the hell out of me in Conjuring 2. To know she was getting her own film...YES. Then the scariest part ended up being in the trailer. So pissed off.

    I'm glad you recognized that scene in this movie with another horror movie Cody. I said to myself when that scene happen 'Why are ripping off that scene? That's directly from Demon Knight' Maybe they think their target audience was too young or never saw that movie. I won't even talk about those nuns with the bags over their heads, another ripoff. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be surprised if they make a sequel since this made most money in The Conjuring series.

    I can say that the movie has some strong scenes, a good setup and good scenery and actors. The writing is just really linear, simple and isn't great in general. especially the last half of the movie. The first half is pretty good I think, second half is just jumpscares and ''trippy'' visions.

  • @Reaper81604
    @Reaper81604 6 лет назад

    So, I know this is kinda out of the blue and over where I am there's only like 2 showings of it that I just noticed today and it seems like that could be it, there's this movie that seems like it could be interesting called He's Out There. I've only seen one trailer and I'd like to try to make it to the theater to check it out, but likely will miss it because of work, but it looks like a home invasion movie, possibly a bit on the simpler side, but it honestly looks like it has potential and no one really seems to be covering.
    Thought I'd at least throw it out your way to let you know about it but with regards to the review I wholly agree with you with a lot of your points. I didn't know what exactly to expect going into it since I didn't see any trailers and all that and I felt like the opening was kinda good, but also opens up some plot holes for later in the movie? Like, if they were the last two nuns why would they go in there and why would the demon kill the one and not try to possess her? After I got out though I didn't know how to feel about it if that makes sense though. It was like, I didn't think it was bad, but I just...didn't really have any opinion of it either? I watched and read some reviews and it's kinda helped me find my feelings on it more but to me, the cinematography and the setting was great, that's something that stood out to me a lot and maybe why I was at first so inclined toward thinking better of it, but everything else is just...predictable, kinda felt like a haunted house more than anything, and honestly the priest doesn't even feel like he even needs to be in this movie.
    What does he even really do? He's there cause he deals in exorcisms and the like. Narrative reasons are the only ones as to why he's there cause otherwise he's there just to have another person to scare cause he's just a stock priest character who's haunted by his past of a kid dying cause of an exorcism. He doesn't even grow as a character, doesn't contribute to the story any, and the only thing he ever really does is give the nun character her vows and get bit in the eye. OH and she doesn't have her habit at the end either so that first point might even be moot too. I know you said you didn't like Frenchie but honestly to me he was the most believable one even if the tone he brought wasn't always exactly right. Except for chasing the dead nun, I dunno wtf he was doing there but horror movie I guess.
    I feel like they had a lot of potential with the setting here and I think maybe if they tried a different approach to using everything it would have been better but uninspired would be a good way to describe it, yeah. Alas, wasted potential is always the worst kind of anything. Great review though and honestly I've been binging no a lot of your vids while I'm working and I think you have an awesome channel here man and I feel like I tend to see eye to eye with you on a lot of your reviews and it's always good to find more people covering classic horror movies and the like. Keep up the great content!

    This reminded me of an old movie I actually really enjoyed, you should do a video on The Rite with Anthony Hopkins. I don’t share all of your opinions on this one, but this is definitely closer to my style of horror movie and I actually enjoyed it much to my surprise. i personally think i’ve seen the nun character too much already, between the conjuring 2 and the nun, she’s over played and honestly not as scary as she was in the conjuring 2 alone. horror movies should build tension, and make you scared to see her, but all they did was throw valak in every corner of the screen, and write in a jump scare for every scene. horrible.

    I didn’t love it, but I didn’t feel it was terrible. The soundtrack was outstanding. That was my probably my favorite part of the movie.
    Frenchie was horrific. He didn’t feel like he was from that time. He really felt like a modern person just randomly placed to relieve tension in what is kind of a period film. Every time that he was speaking I found myself upset and waiting for really anything else.
    I enjoyed pretty much every moment that the nun was on screen. Everything in the water at the climax was cool for me. She genuinely feels scary at times, but is neutered so much that you kind of forget why she was scary in the first place.
    It’s not the worst horror movie I’ve ever seen. I enjoyed it better than at least two of the Insidious movies, but this is easily the weakest chapter in The Conjuring universe so far.

    Not surprised by this review at all. These big budget horror films almost always suck and are loaded with jump scares for casuals and teens lol. I liked the conjuring films because i knew about the Warrens work before the films were made. And BlumHouse is notorious for making these kinds of movies. That worries me because they are involved with Halloween 2018. So is Halloween 2018 going to be another jump scare festival? Or a brutal slasher.

    Don’t get me wrong the MCU is kicking ass. I used to hate it but I’ve come to appreciate and like the movies. But so many movies are coming out and leave out so much material because they want to make a “shared universe” of movies. I hope this trend starts to die out so we get richer movies.
