The Nun was scarier in The Conjuring than her own movie. When Lorraine was in the room with the picture of Valak on the wall; that scene was scarier than the whole Nun movie was. XD
ABSOLUTELY. That scene was terrifying Although I wish Valak wasn’t in the end scene in Conjuring 2... should have been saved for the a MUCH better solo film
The nuns who give information to Irene are visions of her own NOT caused by Valak. The black veiled nun IS an apparition created by Valak, as are the faceless nuns. The portal was reopened by an air raid during WW2, that's when the demon escaped and started killing the nuns.
The guy who made this video literally got everything wrong. I commented myself. Why make a video of the true connections and the facts just to slander the movie and state nothing of what happened correctly. Idiot
@@mikekelsey10 unless you wrote the movie, its all up for interpretation. not defending the video just saying its not like he says anything is absolute
Did anyone else that watched the nun in the theaters have people laughing at the scene where frenchy took the cross with him? Or how he went to the grave yard and someone yelled “ AH NOPE” lol
Yeah it was nice having that comic relief in the movie tho I seemed a bit misplaced in a movie that’s supposed to be serious and scary. He is just a charming character in general, I even feel like he’s probably one of the more dynamic ones ironically.
Personally, I don't think that it was Valek controlling the....let's call them Good Nuns...but Sister Irene's gift that helped her contact them. But the faceless nuns at the end were under his control.
In the movie the priest said that her seeing the nuns and speaking with them was one of her visions, not the demon, which would explain why they helped her. The old nun they speak with when first entering was the demon, who didn't tell them much, tricked them into staying the night, and then attacked at the end.
Let's just say if this was really the Valak from the Lesser Key of Solomon, everyone would be screwed. Similar to King Paimon from Hereditary. Valak would have been too OP.
Which is precisely why Hollywood continues to drastically underwhelm literally every demonic movie they produce thus far where the Apocalypse doesn't happen, The Hollanesian. Hollywood wants humans to completely believe merely speaking the name of Jesus Christ remains to be all-powerful and a fall-back Magickal tool to use when the normal lowly human anti-demon tactics inevitably fail. In reality, the only reason why the Name of Jesus Christ/Yeshua is so Magickally weak for most humans is because most humans have completely stopped believing in both Magick and Jesus Christ. Just saying Yeshua's name isn't enough as it was never just enough even long ago. You have to truly believe in Magick and Yeshua for his name to have the overwhelming Light Magicks his name does contain against genuine evil and the Corrupt. I wouldn't be a bit surprised Magickally powerful humans of old more or less sacrificed themselves in order to successfully banish and/or outright destroy a number of these "lesser" demons. How does Humanity repay such overwhelmingly generous humans? By immediately forgetting them and their immeasurably grand deeds to save Humanity from geninune evil and/or Corruption then becoming as vile and cruel as possible should anyone mention those past human heroes and heroines.
Okay. So for anyone who's confused, saw the movie three times so here's the break down. When the gateway opened during the war and Valak returned for a visit, he took the form of a nun as an attack strategy against their faith and also a hell of a camouflage! The nuns were holding perpetual prayers since the demise of the lovely guy who opened the portal the first time around, so Valak started picking them one by one and killing them. The Abyss was the first to go as was told in a deleted scene. So the Abyss who met them WAS Valak. Then the other nuns got picked off one by one courtesy of our favorite demon until only sister Victoria (a terrified one at that) and another nun remained. The other nun tried to go down and stop him thinking the relic was down that corridor but failed. At that point, with him being strong enough and sister Victoria being terrified enough, he could possess her and leave the abby, so she sacrifices herself. When Irene and father Burke arrive, Irene has one long vision of the history of the abby as well as how to defeat Valak, but he tries to scare her and possess her but she was still too strong for him. When he does succeed Frenchie saves her by smearing her face with the holy blood and Valak posses him (Laurraine Warren explains this in conjuring). Final battle Valak rises from the water and stands on top of it a clear insult to Jesus's ability to walk on water and also an attack on Irene's faith. It works since he tries to kill her as he knows only her can defeat him but she sprays the blood all over him. He leaves the grounds inside Frenchie, only to pop back up in London for round 2 against Laurraine who subsequently banishes him back to hell!!! Maybe the nun 2 will tell us how he got from Frenchie to London
The movie was fairly entertaining, but I had been expecting to learn the actual history of Valak (like was she a nun who turned to the devil and did all these witchcraft things and eventually became an evil spirit?). There's so much potential for a more creative story EDIT: I should clarify, yes I know that in the movie we see that Valak's origin was a demon was summoned, and that was how Valak came to be. I was merely sharing what I had thought the plot was going to be BEFORE I had seen the movie :) And when I said "learn the actual history of Valak", I was thinking (before watching the movie!) that it was going to be like the story of Valak's creation rather than just an already existing demon Valak being summoned. Sorry for any confusion :)
I was on my phone. I hit the home button and it went to the top and I accidentally refreshed it. It then said this video was uploaded 53 seconds ago as the second video recommended.
I went to Catholic school. You don't need to make nuns more scary. Edit: This one doesn't do anything so I guess she's cool. But real nuns are proficient with those meter sticks. A nun with a meter stick can defeat a freaking master samurai with a katana in 1v1 death battle! I swear, God himself gives nuns OP please nerf buffs.
You actually missed something important, Balak or Valak I don't know how to spell it, didn't tell Irene it's story and how to defeated it. Let's remember, the Vatican sent the father to fetch Irene and take her with him to see what's going on, with the excuse that she knows the layout of the land, but she said she had never been there before and doesn't know why they chose her, to wich the father replied that there is a reason for everything and that they should trust the Vatican and God. Besides the visions of when she was young, when the father is buried alive and B/Valak is ringing all the bells so Irene can't find the grave in wich the father is. She suddenly goes into a trans sort of state where she gets over B/Valak's vision "the bells" and immediately knows on wich grave the father is. It is this sort of power she has that allows her to learn the story of the nuns, that allows her to talk to them and learn from them how to defeat B/Valak. I believe B/Valak realized this and then wanted to stop her and started to kill the nuns in her Irene's vision with her own visions. I believe the Vatican knew about this and that's why they sent her, because they knew about the portal, about the demon and about Irene's power. There is something greater going on Huge fan by the way, you're one of my favorite RUclipsrs
Luis Espinosa I was thinking the visions of the nuns were supposed to be the spirits of the deceased nuns trying to help Irene since she appears to have some special powers, such as the visions and being able to break through Valak’s tricks as was seen in the graveyard.
MuscleCarsorNoCars MuscleCarsorNoCars that makes sense too. I don’t think it was a trick Valak did to out itself. That doesn’t make sense. Clearly they nun spirits were there to help her. That’s why in the end She gives proper barrier
My grandma went to go see this movie cuz she thought it was about church😂🤣🤣🤣. Edit: I haven’t checked up on this comment in over a year, thanks for all the like😁 and I also spotted all these hate comments, my grandma has autism:( she sometimes wanders off and is easily distracted. I think she was going to see another movie but ended up seeing “the nun” on the showings list. I just wanted to clear that up, hope you all are staying safe with the pandemic that’s going on.
I loved seeing both Farmiga sisters in this same film. They’ve done other roles together as well, but I loved this especially since Taissa and Vera look so much alike, it made the story more interesting.
Okay. I normally love this videos but: As I see it, the Nuns were not sent by Valak but instead the trapped ghosts of the Nuns that lived there. In the beginning, it was stated that the place was not holy anymore and, in the end, it was asked if it was of any use to bury someone in the unholy ground, to which Irene answeres with: "It is now!" My guess is that the Nuns were all buried there and not able to leave because Valak's presence inside their home meant that they did not fullfill their duty, leading to them turning into ghosts. When Irene enteres they realize that she could help them cross over to the other side. It only helps them to 'defeat' the evil inside their holy home when they tell her all they knew about the demon. Because consider this: If Valak really was weakend by the prayers of the Nuns, then why would he tell Irene to come into the chapell to pray with the other sisters? That's right, it doesn't make sense. Also, There is no light coming out of Mary's statues finger. It's coming from a source outside the window (which was visible mutliple times) and a dropled of water in the damp underground reflected the light to the right direction. (I know, what a coincidence.) Anyway most people won't read that. Yes, the movie had a lot of flaws and I honestly couldn't care less for the protagonists but it wasn't just jumpscares and not explainable magic things as well as Valak telling how to defeat himself just for shits 'n giggles. Honestly I could write all day about this but I'll leave it at that.
I don't think that Valak was telling sister Irene about itself. The spirits of the deceased nuns were warning her. In conjuring 2 also, Valak didn't tell Lorraine its name, it was Lorraine's premonition shown to her by God.
Completely agree. Why wouldn’t valek just takeover a body and leave? Why would she set iris up for failure and go through the effort to make it look like she was defeated? Why allow the dead nuns to be buried? It can’t have been valek
Valak did do violent acts. She buried someone alive, stabbed them in the stomach, and used a snake to strangle them and later bite them in the eye. Not to mention tossed them around and called forth the zombie of the suicide nun several times. think you might have missed those I guess. Also the nuns were ghosts in the movie sent as visions to the main character to warn her and show her. They were not created by Valak. Also, how nuns work, they are allowed to wear street clothes when traveling long distances. It is far easier and they don't risk messing up the habit. Not to mention her current habit doesn't reflect her station anymore. Just thought you should know.
He was also mistaken when he said that a movie about the crooked man in Conjuring 2 should be made next to explain about it. When in fact it was just valak who assumed a different form.
Valak wasn't the one telling Irene stuff. 'Her visions come from God'. The nun saved her from the hallway, Valak wouldn't do that or tell her to pray nonstop. Those were 'spirts/visions' of the nuns helping keeping the demon at bay. But agree this poor movie wasted all it's potential. Maybe the sequel will ramp it up like Annabelle did.
My friend and I went to see it on the 9th, and I got that the Nuns were a part of the visions, not the demon; however, I guess many think it's all the demon's doing.
If people thought that it was valak only giving out information against itself, then clearly they weren't paying attention. Maybe they just saw the movie for the sake of a youtube upload 😁
Yeah, I was pretty much rooting for Valak towards the end because the movie didn't do an even decent job with making you care for the characters. Too many jumpscares to even build tension and used the same tricks over and over. I feel like they made Valak look more like a prankster rather than some hostile demonic force. And personally, the movie was way too predictable for me. Maybe that's cause I watch way too many scary movies, but this one fell really flat with me :/ Always enjoy your videos though!
Irie Jasmin Valec cant harm people unless she/he has a vessel. Wouldve made the movie better if at least one of them got hurt or taken or something. !: (Horror for life)
Now I think about it, there was only one jumpscare that made me jump and that was the one with sister Irene in front of the mirror. Other jumpscares just kinda happened.
Sad really, James Wan had crafted a signature in making rewarding jump scares, like the laundry scene in the 1st movie. You weren't expecting it, no ominous music, tension in scene was just from the weather turning bad, and boom. While this new guy degraded all that back to just messing with the score. Like you could literally mute this movie and it'd be a barely scary murder drama. No James Wan directing = no good.
This was like horror movie junk food. A little juicy, mostly empty, but you ate it up anyway. The story may have been lacking, but it was beautifully shot. I really did think they did the best with the material they had.
I think the writing was kinda lazy. Like I love that they used practical effects, it was beautifully shot, and the music composition was creepy, but compared to the other spin offs that actually have fleshed out characters and a well developed story, this was super underwhelming.
I don't think the other Nuns were Valak playing with Sister Irene. She was having visions and didn't understand them and thus I believe a medium who could communicate with the dead. I think the other Nuns were spirits who stayed in the Abby using the power of prayer to keep Valak there with them, instead of unleashing her evil upon the world. They sacrificed their own afterlives to keep Valak contained. When Sister Irene came, and Oana knew she could talk to her, she told her everything. At least that was my takeaway.
Cage820 the visions couldve also been the moments leading up to the release of Valak and the final moments leading up to the deaths of the Nuns and Oana’s religous sacrifice of killing herslef so Valak couldn’t have a vessel to posses
Agreed, and agreed to the supporting theory. Because it didn't make sense for Valak to retell the history and sealing ritual, how would that benefit it? I don't remember whether it was implied, or Irene provided exposition that it was her powers that communicated the souls of the dead nuns with her. At no point was her interaction with the dead nuns benefiting Valak in any way, Sister Rosa (I think) even saved her. And then they did that group prayer, even though it was actually just her, but was the right thing for them to have her do to keep Valak away from her as long as she could until the guys arrived. The only Valak nuns were the faceless ones, the dead corpses, and the Mother Superior. Although, Valak did lock that priest in a coffin with books that just so happen to tell him about itself, including it's name. And to break continuity, that was never taken advantaged off. As shown in The Conjuring 2, the name gives power to the banisher to condemn the entity. He's a priest who's familiar with the supernatural and exorcisms , you'd think he'd take the time to shout out 6 little words. I mean, Lorraine did it! And she's just a medium. But too busy chasing down pale little boys, huh... hey, the joke wrote itself. I mean it was manipulation of the demon for crying out loud, why would you waste time with that?! All in all, this was a weak entry, one could argue even more so than the 1st Annabelle. All the terrible tropes and cliches. James Wan had set up a signature to doing rewarding jump scares in his movies, Amateur Hour over here reverted it back to playing around with the score. Literally, the jump scares was the music. When the Blue-Ray comes out, mute it and watch basically a barely creepy murder drama. No James Wan direction = no good.
Just to add, canonically ghosts of victims in the Conjuring Universe have often communicated with and helped the psychic protagonists. Like in the first movie, the maid warned Lorianne that Bathsheba possessed the moms to do it. And Wilkins straight up told Lorianne about Valak in the sequel.
I don't think screen writers understand that and upside-down cross isnt an evil symbol, it's St. Peters cross, a man who was to be crucified next to Jesus but thought himself to be unworthy to be crucified the same way so he asked to be put upside down. The scariest thing about it is the improper use of it's symbolism
@@leonardofarias8843 the nun is a demon, the upside-down cross is still a sign of God worship Not 'demon worship' the point still stands that it's a misrepresentation of what the inverted cross actually stands for
@@leonardofarias8843 yeah that's the intention all these directors and writers use it for, but its original meaning still stands it's St. Peters cross and it's meaning over time has been twisted to mean something it's was never meant to be
+ Vahlen the priest did spend most of his time chasing after the little ghost boy instead of focusing on fighting the demon. I mean, Valak even provided its name, as if to entice the guy to banish it. Nope, little boy more important. :p
Even the backstory couldve been the movie in itself because it shows the actual origins of the nun, but they seemed more focused on making sure the guy at the end ties in with the intro for the Conjuring movie
Exactly! The movie explained that Valak is a hellish demon summoned by a crazed Duke, can take any form, likes dressing as a nun so she can hide amongst the holy, and uses people's fears to torment them. What more of a backstory is there?
I'm thinking you're probably not a Catholic and that may be why you're not able to understand certain parts of the movie. In the movie, Irene hasn't taken her vows, because it is a process. Becoming a Nun is a major decision and it's not cut out for everyone. They allow women, who think they would like to become nuns, to do everything that a nun would do for a period of time. Once they've walked the walk, they make the decision to take their vows- this is not unusual. The priest is re-visited by the child because the boy was possessed by a Demon and he DIED as a result of the priest's inability to properly exorcise the demon. Demons don't die and they like to come back to torment the priests who exorcised them. They can even come back to the person or place that was once possessed, they have no sense of time. Demons can read your mind and they know what shameful acts/thoughts you're hiding deep inside - they feed off them and use them against you to weaken you. During the film, you can see the priest is quite upset and unresolved on how the boy passed and was taken by the demon (drinking). The demon will feed on his sadness, regret and come back to torment and trick him, hence leading him out into the graveyard. Additionally, Valek is a powerful, high level demon, that is able to change shape, it is likely it was Valek who had changed shape into the boy, in order to get into the most wounded part of the priest's psyche. Next.....Not all of the spirit nuns were placed there by Valek. Only the nun in the beginning and the scary ones attacking. The nuns that were praying on their knees in perpetual prayer, were there to assist Irene and give her the information she needs to stop Valek and re-close the portal - it was NOT Valek giving her the information to defeat the demon! You're so wrong on that. And....nuns can wear normal clothes that are not flashy or revealing if their order allows it. It was the knights Templar that handled these types of situations, they were the dudes in white w/ red crosses during the flashback. They used symbols relevant to Catholics when hiding things or protecting things. Mary pointing to the location, of the blood of Christ, is not shocking, as I said, typical of the Knights Templar.
You are factually correct, but in this movie, the abbey and convent were portrayed as Catholic. It was the Vatican (Rome) that sent one of their priests to investigate the death of the nun. The Vatican would not intervene in such matters, if they had nothing to do w/ them.
@@moniquef1183 oh I'm not getting deep, just trying to help explain a little. This video was created to explain but he wasnt understanding parts due to his lack of understanding the basis of the movie.
This movie was literally too fantastical. The other movies in the universe are somewhat grounded in reality but The Nun just takes it too far with the actual blood of Christ?!! And that scene with the demon worshipper opening up the hell gate? Also, why make Valak speak and physically choke Taissa’s character. She was scarier as a powerful higher demon instead of a physical being.
Agreed of the fantasy tones it went to. Admittedly, The Conjuring 2 dipped it's toe in that pool a bit, with the Crooked Man scenes, and Valak's banishment. But this was almost like a magic spell, with the water turning into whirlpool and sucking the demon in. Also, hurray for breaks in continuity! 2 movies of using names to banish entities, now you need macguffins like this?! I mean, Lorianne banished Valak with just the name, and she's just a medium. Valak also had conveniently provided its name to the priest, who was apparently more preoccupied chasing a little boy around.... the joke was right there.
Yeah the discovery of the blood of Jesus Christ would have been the biggest thing ever. The monastery is cursed? Oh well we have THE ACTUAL BLOOD OF JESUS let’s just leave with this
Exactly!!! As soon as they mentioned that the vile contained the blood of Jesus Christ, I immediately thought of Demon Knight. And low and behold, they copied the end.
The vision of Sister Oana wasn't an apparition created by Valak. That just doesn't make any sense. She's more likely Sister Oana's ghost whom Sister Irene was able to see and communicate with through her gift similar to Lorraine Warren.
I totally agree .. it seems he didn't even bother to watch the movie, another huge mistake he made is how the gate opened, it wasn't because nuns died and stopped praying as he claimed, it is because of war and the bomb dropped on the Abbey that caused a crack in the gate! This isn't the first time he changed facts about a movie .. so frustrating
Agreed, none of the times Irene spent with the dead nuns benefited Valak. Hell, they told her how to reseal the rift. And at the midpoint, Sister Rosa (I think) saved Irene and brought her to the 'group' prayer, which did keep Valak at bay long enough until the guys arrived. The only Valak nuns were the faceless, the dead corpses, and the Abbess. Also, ghosts of victims in the Conjuring Universe have communicated and helped the psychic protagonists. Like in the first movie, the maid warned Lorianne that Bathsheba possessed the moms to do it.
I completely agree. The faceless nuns were the apparitions of Valak. They behaved in a similar manner to it stalking, watching and attacking. Sister Oana and the other nuns however were the opposite. I felt they were communicating with her though flashbacks. For example, the part where the sisters with Irene were praying with desperation was her reliving the final moments before they lost control and Valak broke out and began killing them. Hence the dead nun in white that was covered up. Irene was reliving it through her eyes. I hope that makes sense. Glad to see others saw the holes in this video.
Agree with all of you! However what had me most confused was Sister Charlotte. I really liked her character in Annabelles creation, however if it was only a few time in between these, how is she in the abbey praying if all the nuns are dead or are a perminission??? Did she get out once the last nuns where trying to saved the Abbey? Or what do you alll think?
I dont usually. I mean, I give him massive credit for trying, and I'd never bash him for it, but this one was pretty damn funny. I chuckled at both of them.
Valak didnt show irene the nuns praying... remember that irene has visions or dreams saying mary points the way... and why would valak give up the way to kill themself and even point the way to the blood of christ... and wouldnt it make sense that irene was blood to ed and lurane waren... she did say that the visions travel threw the family
Cain Sister Irene is in fact Lorraine Warren! As nuns do not use their birth name to be a nun. They use the names of saints in order to be fully “holy” . Which is also how it ties to the conjuring films. My guess is she gave up being a nun to fulfill being a medium. Which is how this also ties the conjuring films, not only through Frenchie. Valek follows Lorraine as well 👻
Jonae Olvera That's just a not very logical theory. Lorraine Warren didn't even know who Maurice was until she helped with the exorcism. Irene and her might just be related.
@nadiapanda what part of the conjuring did it say she didn’t know Maurice ? I feel like it could be a very strong theory. It could be wrong, yes, but think about it, there was never any mention of any family members. Yet it could still be possible. See what I’m saying? Illogical is not even an option because they didn’t really give us much to work with.
Jonae Olvera it was explained to Lorraine that the demon had been following her since birth. Besides in real life Lorraine warren was never a nun, yes I know it's a movie and they aren't always accurate but I don't think it's necessarily a good idea to make sister Irene the younger Lorraine just because they have special powers, it would be lazy story telling on the writers behalf to just turn around and rewrite the history of Lorraine warrens life.
You can survive being buried alive in a casket, just don’t hyperventilate and panic like an idiot or you’ll lose precious oxygen. Just stay calm, kick on the lid until you feel it come loose, tie your shirt over your head, start digging your way out of the ground, and crawl out of the hole you dug. Then you can pull your shirt back down and go your merry way.
I think the nuns at the chapel and Sister Oana are not an illusion of Valak but a vision of Irene. She connected to the souls of the nuns, tey sent her a message of what happened and how to stop it since they could not do it. The faceless nuns at the end are the actual products of Valak.
My personal explanation for why Valak never really harmed the main characters was so that she could possess one of them. If she harms them, they could either be killed or leave, defeating the purpose of having people there in the first place.
True, Generic name123. I think RUclips ads at least for The Nun were tremedously overselling the movie. I was initially moderately excited the movie was coming out with the first few Nun RUclips ads, but because most of them were forced ads on so many RUclips videos over the month or two prior to the movie's release the movie lost most of it's appeal and I was like, "Ehh... I'll just go see it to sate my curiosity, and enjoy a good popcorn and coke movie.". Which is precisely why I try to severely limit myself on any movie ads to which I am interested in watching. The trailers ruin the movies, and have been doing for many years now.
The ads made it look really scary, im not really into scary movies anymore cause I know most of them aren't going to be good but the ads for this actually got me excited for this but once again I was disappointed lol but keeping my fingers crossed for the new Halloween!!
Hey dude, just a suggestion: The Nuns at the abbey weren't apparitions created by Valek, at least to me it would not seem that way. The Vatican as you will recall in the film chose Irene as she is "Familiar with the area" however we learn she had never been to romania. So what could that mean? I believe they knew she had psychic experiences, and I believe like Lorraine, Irene was actually communicating with the spirits of the dead nuns unconsciously, not realizing that what she was seeing were visions. Another point is that the body we find after we discover Irene was praying alone was that of the Nun she had been talking too.
I agree with you, Corruption 19. During the Praying Scene I was actively wondering throughout that scene whether it was actually taking place, or it was just an understated vision of the past playing out in real time by the nuns who all died fighting against Valak. It seemed to me too that the only nuns who didn't become consumed by Valak's Corruption were the two nuns at the beginning of the movie. The one who was brutally murdered by Valak looked like she did at least try to survive initially. I was actively thinking to myself when she was dragging herself out of the darkness to the other nun, "Hey! Do PLEASE drag her out of the darkness and at least shut that dang door already!! We can call the Vatican in the morning together by ditching this place, but not before hitting up a nearby hospital first.". Instead we get the usual "dragged into darkness only to die an incredibly disparaging death" cliche. This was a needless death as far as I'm concerned.
Don't get me wrong, I don't mind those sort of characters but for this film I thought it was irritating and unnecessary. I felt he wasn't even reacting strongly to the horrors he was facing. After getting jumped by that zombie like nun in the grave yard he just shrugs it off and heads to a bar. Doesn't try to get help or attempt to rationalise what he saw. That's just my opinion. I respect that you liked him.
I doubt the nun that was telling her about the relic was valek. Why would she tell her how she could be defeated? I think it was the nuns spirit and that also makes sense because when she said she had to stay you could see a tear roll down the face of the other nun.
@@MrMrpaulo2012 Because she had visions as a girl and I forgot who (someone who asked Father Burke to go with her to investigate), was sent by a cardinal to meet up with young Irene because of her visions reached the church
Have you ever seen tales from the crypt : Demon night? This nun movie made me think of that movie there were a few similarities with them having the "blood of jesus" in a bottle and spitting it the demons face that's the exact thing that happened in tales from the crypt I think that's where they got that idea from lol
I was under the impression that it was the actual spirit of Sister Owana who had appeared and not some hallucination caused by Valak, cuz if it was, Valak is really, really dum for giving away its origin story and how to defeat it. There is no way they would make the story that stupid. But hey, the writing is already pretty bad. I mean, they set up that nun group photo in Annabelle 2 and that didn’t really go anywhere.
My favorite part was the skit! Lady had the perfect expression. Both relief and disappointment clearly showing simultaneously, that's pretty danged impressive
Not that i’m correct or anything but i’m pretty sure Irene was having visions like she did as a kid which was called a miracle from god to get information about Valek. Valek didn’t give information about itself to Irene. I watched the movie just now.
Agreed, canonically ghosts of victims in the Conjuring Universe have often communicated with and helped the psychic protagonists. Like in the first movie, the maid warned Lorianne that Bathsheba possessed the moms to do it. And Wilkins straight up told Lorianne about Valak in the sequel.
D33Y4 Yes i agree, there’s a lot of foreshadowing in the Movies. It’s just hard to keep track of because some times you think it’s real but it’s just visions.
It was not Valak creating the illusions or manifestations of the deceased nuns but it was Sister Irene visions that allowed her to speak to them and discern where the gate within the Abbey is located the history of the Abbey itself as well as information about how to defeat Valak (blood of christ, etc.). As for Sister Victoria, she took her own life and therefore could not be possessed however all the other nuns in the church (not only the other nun that got dragged away in the opening scene) were all supposedly killed by Valak. Or is that a conclusion we come just come to as Valak not killing anyone seems pretty lame to say the least. We never really see any other bodies of the nuns other than sister Oana (under the white sheet) and sister Victoria who is now a white walker. It's seen in the ending that they bury all the bodies of the other Sisters, which leads me to believe that the bodies were in fact still there. Unless it was just in memorial. Lets just say it's the former. So if the Demon did not possess them it would lead us to believe that they killed themselves. The bleeding from the eyes in indicative of a hung body as you can see from the blood coming of out the eyes of sister Oana who was under the white sheet. She also had stigmata and I'm lost there. Was it self inflicted, did the other nuns crucify her for being a loud mouth lol in a vision that happened in the future? LOL, I haven't the slightest clue at the moment. I also believe that the reason why Valak can't just instantly possess you is that it needs to become stronger. And it's a well known horror trope that in order for a demon to possess you it also feeds on the fear of the individual being tormented. Or whichever comes first. Or both maybe? Who knows, its always changing from movie to movie, demon to demon. There are definitely lose ends to this movie but I think it did a great job with its atmosphere and sound. Especially the deep choir for the Valak scenes. Its demise is the fact that it shows us the face of the demon too clearly one too many times and it becomes less and less scary and ultimately we lose the fear of the unknown. *Also on a side note in Annabelle Creation sister Charlotte was part of the convent at the Abbey but she acted like she didn't know of any demonic presence there. Even through it's said that the nuns would be in prayer 24/7 in order to keep the demon at bay. Did she not ever see the Demon herself and so she couldn't identify the faded face in the photo? Who knows. She acts pretty normal coming out of a place as "unholy" as the Abbey.
I feel like those who don’t know of the lore don’t realize that demons don’t lie (they stretch the truth) and can’t kill (but may take part in leading someone to their death). So Valak telling the truth about himself makes sense. So does him not outrightly killing anyone. Lorraine and Ed warned people how demons work. Oppression, depression, possession (CMIIW). They have to have someone weakened or willing. While the Nun truly did have weak points, mostly like you said with the characters being weak plot wise and development wise. The lore was rather genius if you pay attention and know a thing or two about demonology.

It would be an interesting fact if a movie could explore more the Duke's story and the nun vessel!
I really like the Conjuring movies because they have a nice, fresh look at how jumpscares and spooks should be done - it is not just linear "the tension => spooks => relief => tension" etc. Sometimes, the scene is intense, and you feel like the spooky moment is about to show up, but it never does, and you are like "wait, what happened?". And then it suddenly appears later, when you least expect it. Also, they use their visuals and effects very creatively. One of my favourite moments of any horror film ever was from Conjuring 2, when Ed was hit by some hot steam, and was temporarily quite blind because of it. And as he goes around the house, the entity stands right in front of him, but then the scene switches to his point of view, and we see, that his sight is blurred, and he can't actually see the monster, which is just a great idea overall
I saw this movie last night and would’ve fallen asleep if there wasn’t a jumpscare every 5 minutes. I know every horror movie has jump scares but cmon this felt like a RUclips jumpscare compilation more than a movie, I have to agree with foundflix on this one; the characters weren’t as in depth as the warrens were, hell not even as established as the family from the first and second conjuring movies, no discredit to the actors in this movie I’m sure they’re talented but they weren’t written as well as the characters in the movies prior and oh yeah wasn’t really that scary lol
FYI just so you know, first a convent must get to know you. Which can take years. Then if you are underage you wait for that first. Then you must get voted in by the convent itself. Once the sisters agree it is the right fit then you stay with them for about a year until September which is when they let new nuns take their vows. There is ALWAYS a training period in which you learn everything you need to know. That is usually prior to vows. Most likely from her clothes she is votted in. In training. And is either waiting for the once a year ceremony or to come of age in the eyes of her personal part of the church. Hope that helps anyone who has that question from the video. It is an extremely well known concept to most people, and at the very least extremely easy to Google why anyone has to wait to make vows to God and marry the church. Not a small life choice.
I was at the theater with my sister when we saw the trailer for this film. The jumpscare made my sister literally throw her mini pizza slices in the air and it looked picture perfect.... I will never forget this film because of it
I think the nuns were trapped as ghosts in the abbey and Irene's gift helped her see them. There was a scene with Frenchie where he's talking with the townspeople and one of them (the bartender, I believe) told him about the town's tradition of covering all the mirrors when someone dies so that the spirit does not see their own reflection and become a ghost that is basically trapped on earth. Since none of the mirrors were covered in the abbey the nuns turned into ghosts, but since they did not give their souls to the demon they could work as helpful spirits... at least to people that can see them (Irene).
I thought sister irene was seeing the life of the previous vessel, the one who commits suicide at the beginning of the movie, and irene realizes shes the next vessel and gets their "answer" as to why she committed suicide at the beginning
I saw it over the weekend. I think it did an okay job of connecting the Nun to the Conjuring films. But the film still left me with many questions, particularly how is Valak connected to Annabelle? Or is there no connection at all? Valak appeared in Annabelle creation but the link has not been explained. On to the actual film itself, I thought the film had some good scares. But that was about it. I felt the plot was not developed enough. It was rushed. I felt the CGI used for the Nun’s face was unnecessary and it took away from the terror of it because it wasn’t used properly. This was a movie that honestly didn’t need to happen. It didn’t add anything to what we know about Valak except that she is the one who possessed that Frenchman. They advertised it as the prequel to the Universe, but it did a terrible job of adding valuable info to what we know about the Warrens, Valak, and Annabelle. Good for some cheap scares but not a classic like the Conjuring films. Overall rating: 5.5/10.
Andrea Corbett remember that valak is the demon and that Annabelle and blah blah are just hosts which da demon is in, the doll was haunted or possessed by valak. The nun was really based off that a nun killed herself and most likely got cursed by valak and Came back to haunt the abbey
@@401GlockzNChopz The doll was not possessed by Valak. The doll was possessed by a completely different entity. The 2 are actually not connected at all. Rewatch Annabelle Creation
The doll is posseded by another deamon that is now mad at the Warrens. The nun just hates them cause of the vessel being destroyed. They are pobably gonna help each other since the nun can touch objects and Annabel can shift reality(oculous) to help the nun get a new vessel (there daughter probably). The movie explained how she got out aka needed but not that great.
Valak isn't connected to Annabelle at all. What people dont understand is that the Conjuring Universe is kind of like an anthology. Different stories that kinda come together with the warrens. Valak was just a character that was part of the storyline alongside characters like Annabelle, they aren't the same.
I think it was the deceased nuns spirit telling Irene how Valak came about & how to defeat him. Her visions helped her to know that Mary points the way & her visions allowed her to see the nuns. Don’t think it was Valak telling her all those details & grabbing her in the hallway & saving her from Valak. Definitely think it was a good spirit.
Kind of interesting how everyone views things differently. I actually think it makes sense Valek wasn't doing that much in this as over time these forces do seem to get stronger; meaning she would be stronger therefore scarier in the conjuring 2. Also the visons Irene are having of the nuns helping her are most likely visions from god to help her to defeat the demon.
For this movie it was. The adds got me hyped up 2 years before the release. And the actual movie was very shitty. I stopped getting scared of horror movies because of this trash
Encrypted Aqua I’ve been watching horror movies since I was 3 and have been scared of maybe 3 horror movies since I was 12. But there’s no denying this movie is overdone recycled trash. You can find much better horror movies than this. Candy man, John carpenters the thing, silence of the lambs, 1970s black Christmas, the original hills have eyes
@@mgth7812 the real reason why ppl dont get scared it bechus you get used to jumpscares you brain know how to react and thats what makes it less scary untill the point of it aint scary at all annymore
I dont think Valak told them about himself. I believe since Irene has psychic visions she saw the spirits of the nuns, and they tried to help her. Also, the hooded nun at the start I think that wasn't a vision but a zombie because apparently throughout the movie valak made zombies.
Am I the only one who thinks sister Irene is Lorraine? Like I know these are based in true investigations but is it a coincidence that they chose an actress that looks just like the actress of Loraine? And the timeline would put their age at the right age of each other? It’s only 20 years. Lorraine is a clairvoyant who sees visions. Knowing this ability is passed down through the bloodline, doesn’t it make sense? Maybe it’s a hidden story or twist they want to throw in. Looking through the comments so far, I have not see anyone else think this? I also feel like the father who died in Annabelle is the father in the nun. I can’t remember his name in both movies, I’m gonna have to go back and do some research. I love this series. Ed and Lorraine inspired movies are my favorite.
I read in an article that the producers were hesitant at first to cast Taissa Farmiga in The Nun because she's the sister of Vera Farmiga. Perhaps they were prepping her for a prequel featuring a younger Lorraine. But they were so impressed with her audition that they went on to cast her anyway. I do think that Irene and Lorraine are related and it will be revealed in a sequel, along with the explanation why The Vatican chose to send Sister Irene with Father Burke to the abbey (it was never explained why they chose her. Father Burke thought initially that it was because of her roots but Sister Irene clarified that she wasn't Romanian).
The Vatican were aware that she had visions from God, so it makes sense why they chose to send her. And I totally thought she was going to turn out to be young Lorraine too! I was actually convinced it was a young Lorraine for pretty much the entire movie XD
No she's not Lorraine. But, yes, the actress is Vera Farmiga's little sister ! (Taissa Farmiga) she's just a psychic such as the little boy(daniel), lorraine and others :)
I thought Sister Irene was actually a younger Lorraine. They do look alike and the fact that sister Irene has visions like Lorraine should be indicative that they are the same person. It would also explain why the Warrens helped Frenchy out first, seeing as though Lorraine had that connection. Also, there could be another prequel with the exorcism of Daniel. It would be called "Damned Daniel" haha
I love the part when the guy rips the cross out of the ground and he carries it with him to the bar

The Nun was scarier in The Conjuring than her own movie. When Lorraine was in the room with the picture of Valak on the wall; that scene was scarier than the whole Nun movie was. XD
dracyoola IKR AND THE HALLWAY PAR5 TOO
ABSOLUTELY. That scene was terrifying
Although I wish Valak wasn’t in the end scene in Conjuring 2... should have been saved for the a MUCH better solo film
Agreed
Conjuring 2 is my fav horror movie
@@thevelvetundergr0und490 I thought the Conjuring 1 was much better than 2, tbh. 2 fell back to typical horror tropes, sadly.
Idiot
Lol. I just come here to listen to the whole plot of the movie. He obviously didn't do even that right this time.
@@mikekelsey10 unless you wrote the movie, its all up for interpretation. not defending the video just saying its not like he says anything is absolute
There actually is no actual answer, some believe that it was Valac or just Irene hallucinating. The actual part of that is just up to interpretation.
@@ananyachinmaya7808Exactly, they were real nuns who had already been killed by Valak. They were helping Irene through her ability to see "visions".
I mean, I got pretty attached to Frenchy tbh.

i think about that scene daily😭 it’s so funny for no reason
I've never seen the movie, and now I want to see it for that exact moment
Did anyone else that watched the nun in the theaters have people laughing at the scene where frenchy took the cross with him? Or how he went to the grave yard and someone yelled “ AH NOPE” lol
It was weird how Frenchie was a comic relief and had like action hero one liners.
Racheal Laudg yea he was pretty funny and like the person above ^ he was a comic relief
And then when they cut to him later at the bar .....and he still has the cross
Ya but I found he ruined the movie even more, just making shit shittier.
Damian Terriquez yes! the nuns were Irene’s visions!
Same I was under the impression she was having a vision of what actually happened
And she does briefly mention that she hadn’t taken her vows at the end because she wasn’t sure if the visions were from god or not
Damian Terriquez that's exactly what I thought
Okay yeah so yay I was right lol
I've never really understood when people say The Conjuring films are grounded in reality. Ridiculous stuff happens in pretty much every movie.
That’s exactly what I thought when he said this. They’ve been exaggerated beyond beliefs all in the pursuit to make a “horror” movie.
I think he means the reality of the movies keeping to the movies set of rules

In the movie the priest said that her seeing the nuns and speaking with them was one of her visions, not the demon, which would explain why they helped her. The old nun they speak with when first entering was the demon, who didn't tell them much, tricked them into staying the night, and then attacked at the end.
Thank you 😧

So much potential the villain had. Not fulfilled
Yup
Nun fulfilled
Let's just say if this was really the Valak from the Lesser Key of Solomon, everyone would be screwed. Similar to King Paimon from Hereditary. Valak would have been too OP.
RIGHT!!!!
There's so much potential for a more creative story
EDIT: I should clarify, yes I know that in the movie we see that Valak's origin was a demon was summoned, and that was how Valak came to be.
Valek is a demon sooo was never human
They already said it in two movies now that Valek likes hiding in something holy like a nun outfit to fool everyone
Like a actual demon would like because it's the other side
@@dregamesta I guess she was sleeping throughout the two movies.

I love the nun and all the conjuring series there all amazing
There is something greater going on
Huge fan by the way, you're one of my favorite RUclipsrs
I agree 100%.
Omg yeah that definitely makes more sense
Luis Espinosa I was thinking the visions of the nuns were supposed to be the spirits of the deceased nuns trying to help Irene since she appears to have some special powers, such as the visions and being able to break through Valak’s tricks as was seen in the graveyard.
MuscleCarsorNoCars MuscleCarsorNoCars that makes sense too. I don’t think it was a trick Valak did to out itself. That doesn’t make sense. Clearly they nun spirits were there to help her. That’s why in the end She gives proper barrier
Luis Espinosa I agree
And it’s Valak by the way :)
Valak didn't tell Irene. The spirits of the nuns were trapped there and helped Irene.
Tatyana Gordon exactly
That makes sense! I was wondering why she would have done that to herself lol
@Mo Z How's he an asshole, asshole? His videos are fine. Just don't watch them if you don't enjoy them.
Since Irene had visions from God before, I got the impression that the other nuns were God’s way of giving her the information she needed.

Awww bless her😂😂
I loved seeing both Farmiga sisters in this same film. They’ve done other roles together as well, but I loved this especially since Taissa and Vera look so much alike, it made the story more interesting.
Okay. I normally love this videos but:
As I see it, the Nuns were not sent by Valak but instead the trapped ghosts of the Nuns that lived there. In the beginning, it was stated that the place was not holy anymore and, in the end, it was asked if it was of any use to bury someone in the unholy ground, to which Irene answeres with: "It is now!"
My guess is that the Nuns were all buried there and not able to leave because Valak's presence inside their home meant that they did not fullfill their duty, leading to them turning into ghosts.
(I know, what a coincidence.)
Anyway most people won't read that. Yes, the movie had a lot of flaws and I honestly couldn't care less for the protagonists but it wasn't just jumpscares and not explainable magic things as well as Valak telling how to defeat himself just for shits 'n giggles. Honestly I could write all day about this but I'll leave it at that.
"Valak telling how to defeat him"

I don't think that Valak was telling sister Irene about itself. The spirits of the deceased nuns were warning her. In conjuring 2 also, Valak didn't tell Lorraine its name, it was Lorraine's premonition shown to her by God.

You said what I was thinking.! 🤓
I agree with you.
Valak is not a she,nor a he it is a Demon they have no gender
Ivan Divić You mean Valak is non-binary¿?

I'm sure being close to Valak increased her visions x10.

The gimmics did make you jump, but none of them were surprising. Just cheap jump scares. Another let down.
Yeah I agree on your point. Valak was expected lol.
Yet it was far better than Hereditary
Bro how can you say this is a letdown if it never had potential in the first place. Its a simple, fun, creepy story.
This was like horror movie junk food. A little juicy, mostly empty, but you ate it up anyway. The story may have been lacking, but it was beautifully shot. I really did think they did the best with the material they had.
Veronica Vatter Couldn’t be better worded! I completely agree, it was not a terrible movie at all. People are being a bit harsh
I think I'd like to believe this theory instead, given that it's weird of Valak to actually gives out what can stop her.
I don't think you get what Valak likes to do with crosses
@@leonardofarias8843 the nun is a demon, the upside-down cross is still a sign of God worship
Not 'demon worship' the point still stands that it's a misrepresentation of what the inverted cross actually stands for
@@Shadowstar_Art In this case it was supposed to be a evil symbol because they were always near the demon
@@leonardofarias8843 yeah that's the intention all these directors and writers use it for, but its original meaning still stands it's St. Peters cross and it's meaning over time has been twisted to mean something it's was never meant to be

I did really like that. Frenchie comments on how all the crosser surrounding the monastery probably kept the demon inside instead of out.

I also think they could have explored into the nature of catholic lore, which would have added another layer of depth to the movie.
But now we know why she got that vision when she was handling that case
Except they did explain her actual origins. It just seems you didnt pay attention
Exactly! The movie explained that Valak is a hellish demon summoned by a crazed Duke, can take any form, likes dressing as a nun so she can hide amongst the holy, and uses people's fears to torment them. What more of a backstory is there?
Can we just take a break and realize in one scene the priest screams at a zombie "the power of Christ compels you!" And then slaps them lol

Sorry, I did miss part of your comment. Apologies.

Keep these skits up. They're legendary.
Not related. The way Taissa pronounced "Oana" was funny, for a Romanian. It's not "Oh-ana", it's more like "Woah-na". 😬
Lol, love your skits man.
I dont usually. I mean, I give him massive credit for trying, and I'd never bash him for it, but this one was pretty damn funny. I chuckled at both of them.
At least you don't have to watch the movie, right? :p
Irene wasn't wearing her Nun clothes at the end because they were wet...you know from NEARLY BEING DROWNED BY A DEMON!? Just wanted to point that out.
Valek follows Lorraine as well 👻
Well you are so freaking right about it.

I think the nuns at the chapel and Sister Oana are not an illusion of Valak but a vision of Irene. She connected to the souls of the nuns, tey sent her a message of what happened and how to stop it since they could not do it. The faceless nuns at the end are the actual products of Valak.

The reason why we don't find the Nun scary now is because we were all scared of the ad.
Or it was done before.

It wasn't VALAk which warned her about Blood of Jesus ...it was that nuns spirit helping her iren
THIS
you are damn right
I agree with you, Corruption 19.
I love the nickname Frenchy for Maurice!! Felt bad though at the end for him. 💔
Jack Darring exactly .. 🙄 why would a demon tell you how to kill it

Actually the nuns that help Irene are her visions and that's why she said they were from God because the nuns protected her

D33Y4 Yes i agree, there’s a lot of foreshadowing in the Movies. It’s just hard to keep track of because some times you think it’s real but it’s just visions.
Valak*

Completely disagree. They where irenes visions or angels taking the form of the nuns due to this universe playing very heavily on catholic canon

Marz Coachman Lol what tf was it possessed by?
Valik wasn’t controlling the nuns it was Irene’s visions
Didn't the visions of the other sisters come from sister irene because they were trying to help her
Never said either way. But we know Valak can do that. Nothing about the nuns
Tbh rotten tomatoes isn’t exactly reliable as a reference
For this movie it was. The adds got me hyped up 2 years before the release. And the actual movie was very shitty. I stopped getting scared of horror movies because of this trash
mehhh. I don’t think... that’s how it works... if your not scared of horror movies anymore that means nothing would be able to compare to it
Encrypted Aqua I’ve been watching horror movies since I was 3 and have been scared of maybe 3 horror movies since I was 12. But there’s no denying this movie is overdone recycled trash. You can find much better horror movies than this. Candy man, John carpenters the thing, silence of the lambs, 1970s black Christmas, the original hills have eyes
@@mgth7812 the real reason why ppl dont get scared it bechus you get used to jumpscares you brain know how to react and thats what makes it less scary untill the point of it aint scary at all annymore
halley ponce well I’m not saying it’s good, it’s a pretty bad movie, but I stand by my statement
I thought they were the same person too. But I see no one else has said it or thought it, looks like a younger version of her.
There sisters in real life
I thought Sister Irene was actually a younger Lorraine.
They look at like bc they are sisters in real life ... but it would be cool for them to be the same person in this story
the ending to this video was better than all of the nun lol
