My sister was on ketamine and they would leave her alone. She would call me and I would talk to her until it was time for her to go home. Otherwise she would freak out. It was helping her so much when NOTHING ever had but then insurance decided to not cover it. Hate these fools. My sister ended up turning to street drugs and dying last september. If only the greedy insurance would have kept paying.

I lost faith in the FDA ever since the war on opioids. They allow snake oil salesmen to pedal anything. Also why when you take a new drug out in the market like when Gabapentin first came out for off label use for pain. And you complain about the side effects to the prescribing Dr. Do they always say that's impossible, that snot a side effect. But years later you see new warnings about the side effects you complained about. Why don't they want to report the patients side effect?

I thought I was going blind on Gabapentin. My vision became so blurry. I was never warned about the side effects. I'm with you, though, drugs are pushed through that might be questionable. I'm surprised Esketamine made it to the market. I'm a little afraid of it, but I'm still going to try it and hope I don't end up on a mental ward.

I thank God for gabapentin. But if it isn’t fda official for the purpose of its treatment that some are using it for then it’s black marked for the people that the fda ok’d it for then it is also removed for the purposes that it is now used for but I totally agree that there should be a specific area for the side effects as well as any positive feedback but if you have a side effect that should have been addressed by your doctor then put into your chart just like your medicinal allergies. That’s just my experience and opinions are. Example hydrocodone doesn’t work for me but it does for half of my kids and my husband. Oxycodone works for me and the other half of my kids. It’s weird but I know that the kids with his blood type works with them and the ones with my blood type works well for them what works for me.

I'll be starting Esketamine in June. I wish it was Ketamine, but beggar's can't be choosers. There's a new drug coming out soon that seems promising, too. I've tried all of them since I was 17 and now I'm 54. That's a long time to deal with severe depression. My sister mentioned ECT to me, and I know you're out when your shocked, but that just seems really scary to me. Some people don't always get memories back, but then again, maybe that would be a good thing. I'm glad you mentioned the trauma thing and addressing it before ketamine. I've had therapy, but I feel awful when my crap makes therapists cry. They are human too, and I'm sure they deal with a lot themselves listening to people's horror stories. I don't know if talking about it really helps anyway. Maybe I just haven't had the right therapist, idk. I think they are realizing now that some people need longer therapy sessions than an hour. I wish I could afford someone like Karl Deisseroth or his wife to untangle my mess. I think my brain needs a good going over.

@@lyndachele Thank you. I'm looking for a trauma specialist right now. I've been through psychiatrist's and councilor's over the year's, but didn't find any really good help, so I gave up. I do as much self help online as I can and I read a lot, too. I almost assuredly have some brain damage from some serious blows I've taken, and trauma itself damages the brain just with things you've heard or seen. I've spent time in hospitals and it amazes me that no one has done any brain scans. I'm not sure that I've ever even had a correct diagnosis. In America, CPTSD isn't even in the DSM, but I know that's what I'm dealing with. I try to practice always being grateful, and I've been forgiving, but there's always been a deep lingering sadness that I just can't seem to heal. I'm obviously doing something wrong. It's tough getting through each day. All the trauma in the world and how awful we are to each other doesn't help. I've almost gotten into a fight at stupid Walmart where I see ppl so mean to their kids. It makes me so angry!

I had 15 ten minute TMS treatment sessions
minutes at a TMS Center here in San Diego. The necessity of driving 35 miles to and from the location 5 days a week made this treatment really inconvenient and difficult to keep up. I had to stop the treatments because of a different health problem. I'm not sure if I would want to restart the TMS treatments or not. The TMS tech who was actually applying the electrodes really had little information about TMs in general. I asked him what kind of training did he have to perform TMS treatments. After all he is messing with another person's brain. He said that he learned the treatments through on the job training. I figured that well since this guy is just a techie and is following the protocols then I guess he's okay to mess with my brain. The other disappointment was that the psychiatrist who was in charge of the TMS clinic would come by once a week stick his head in the door and have a 5-minute session with me. It really was: " well do you feel any better than you did last week? Okay we'll keep going with the sessions but will switch from unilateral to bilateral treatments.,
I said okay you're the doctor. Let me just say that there is a dearth of information and general ignorance about TMS among most M.D.S. there is ignorance even among the various types of therapists. I spoke to an L.C.S.W. and she knew nothing about TMS.. it seems that psychiatrist and talk therapists live in totally different universes. If I do go back for restarting the treatments I need to be more assertive about getting information and face-to-face talk time with the psychiatrist. My hesitation to do that was a mistake on my part.

I will talk TMS up to anyone that asks (or even mentions it 😂)! I have SUPER treatment resistant depression and I haven’t been acutely suicidal since the first time I did it five (six?) years ago. Unfortunately I no longer live near anyone that does TMS so I’m a bit of a mess, even on my meds. But when I am able to both be on meds AND do TMS… man, it’s the best. I’m so thankful for the two times I’ve been able to do it. Hopefully sometime soon I’ll be able to find it close enough to drive to on a daily basis for weeks.

I have clinical depression, OCD, CPTSD, and Bipolar disorder (extreme). My psychiatrist was able to get TMS approved thru my insurance because it is FDA approved for depression. However they were seeing really good results for Bipolar with this treatment and that was really what we were looking to treat. After the series of treatments ended we started reducing and removing some of my meds. At this point I take meds for depression and anxiety (CPTSD). I have not had a manic episode going on 5 YEARS. I do have another round of TMS scheduled in a few months unfortunately I have had a seizure and 2 TIAs so I will be talking to my doc about those issues before I go back under the magnet. I do have to say that part of me is bummed about losing the OCD. My house used to be impeccably clean and orderly and now it just constantly looks like we are recovering from a tornado, but I can live with that. Mostly. 😅
I know my 5year result is a major outlier, so to be clear I am definitely NOT suggesting that anyone expect that result, even my doc is still surprised. I do have to say that I believe going into the treatment believing I would benefit from it and encouraging myself with positive thinking throughout the treatment made a big difference. But I'm a hippy born too late and I really do believe attitude can affect anything from a surgical outcome to how long you are miserable with a virus. I have a tambourine around here somewhere, I shall now go meditate. 😊
Edit: The only issue I had with TMS was a mild headache after the first session, so I just took an aspirin before each subsequent session.
I also have had two spinal surgeries with a third on the horizon and have had chronic pain for 27 years so maybe I need to try ketamine treatment.

I was hoping there would be new technology to reconstruct the TMJ, last year I got examined, there is nothing there. I’m bone on bone. It’s frustrating from the viewpoint of also being an animal lover, having any of my animals suffering, I can have the vet give them the “last act of kindness”, which I’ve had to do. I only have Medicare and State Aid plus. I first learned about ketamine for this through working in an ER over 25 years ago from a horse trainer who said that it helped a relative with severe pain. I asked a lot of questions out of curiosity and only one other “country “ nurse knew of this back then for veterinary use and of course human use was there but not in this way. If nasal spray were covered or a clinic near Chicago I am sure my pain specialist would be for it. I really need help. If I could get any information I would love to put this up for discussion including for a close relative as long as hypnosis is not involved. Who do I contact?😊

Went straight to McDonald's and pigged out. The doctor even looked like you doc. Is this the kind of leverage er Dr's have? Now 18 years later I'm a horrible mess from several tramas since. Currently I'm having infusions every two weeks (4 hours), with 50mg troches 4 times a day. I'm really not thrilled with the TMS idea. He also mentioned doing a SCS. I would really like to keep working the ketamine awhile longer. We struggled at first because I couldn't handle his request of not taking my Klonopin 24 hours before to 24 after. @@MedicalSecrets Hi doc, thanks for the reply, it's the first I've gotten from a channel creator! My apologies for being crass, I could have sounded more kind with my words. I also apologize that I didn't see your reply until today. I am most interested in psychology and physics, so I am highly irritated with both TMS and the trend of 'professional medical' Ketamine administration for any purposes other than anesthetic.
Here's my reasoning for Ketamine; the use of ketamine, regardless of set and setting, is to intoxicate. The benefits of that intoxication that are so frequently exemplified are (in my perspective) always a LUCKY side effect of being in an extremely dissociated state yet prefrontal areas stay active, I think that's why ketamine is frequently mentioned along with other psychedelics like psilocybin, LSD, DMT, 25I, 2CE by people seeking extra-medical treatment. I think they all are a fools errand, no real nootropic or healing come from any of these by direct cause, merely an extreme experience that sometimes has the side effect of breaking a bunch of defense mechanisms unintentionally built up over time, which is a mighty fine reason to try a psychedelic/dissociative. Just not over and over again. I see Ket clinics as a white collar place to stop in and get hammered, I lump them in with other ethically questionable practices like body hydration clinics, pot dispensaries. I see many parallels in those businesses, all take advantage of an environment made to resemble a legitimate medical facility and a suffering person who will indeed be wowed and shocked by the experience, all are not covered by insurance. Further, it is up to the patient to tell the clinician if they think they're better and need less or to cease treatments. I doubt that a dispensary or Ketamine clinic would turn away customers, err, patients, or lower their dosing incrementally because they believe the patient is recovered and further treatment of the same dose will no longer cause improvement, rather they are encouraged to do it as much as they think they need it within the reasonable limitations. If these treatments really caused a breakthrough psychologically, they would not be routine, probably not even multiple. For these reasons, I believe the use of Ketamine outside of the OR to be recreational, even if it is in a clinical setting. It is fun business getting us high legally and profiting. Is anyone shocked? No. That's why nobody cares that they're lying to themselves, "other people do it, and there are bars that serve drinks with even worse drugs in them like ethanol! ewww!" lol. I just want us to call a spade a spade.
I have a much more concrete basis for believing TMS is 85% as silly as electroshock therapy. I say 85% because it is no doubt a method that allows SOME control modulus over EST however it is still quite obviously a "brute force reset" of nerves (I know almost nothing about nerve types, only took A&P 1 + gen psych), which as indicated by electroshock therapy, can be more harmful than helpful. Since the coils used in TMS are non-contact, that means they are of course generating a magnetic field, or in physics, an H field, as opposed to E fields, electrical fields.. Since static (non-moving) magnetic fields alone will not induce any voltage potential in any medium/material, pulsating (and maybe alternating) currents are passed through the coils to make the resulting magnetic field oscillate. Now that we have an oscillation, E fields can be generated inside a material without surgery. Great! BUT you are not able to precisely control anything other than the general region (down to the centimeter laterally and probably 3x that in the vertical I would guess) and the general intensity applied by changing the amplitude, frequency, distance from scalp, coil type and shape... but you won't ever get a precise enough control over such a device to claim it medically effective unless it is internal, or uses high tech like a phased array. Now, if someone makes what's referred to in engineering as a 'phased array' of coils work with neurons, you could steer and shape the magnetic field quite precisely, and it's resulting E field and conceivably force nerve resets only at a specified depth, not a column or region, and at sub-centimeter widths. Nueralink among others will pay big to the person/institute that gets it right if it's possible. I do consider it more than plausible, just gonna take another couple decades of improving our ability to pick out very weak signals with purpose-designed electronics combined with special filtering software. I would love to learn more about TMS and how wrong I might be, but the equipment and it's operation is hard to find out about, it's all so proprietary and wrapped up. Would be neat to talk to a designer of the equipment, but that'll never happen for me.
Kindness is the best medicine. It even makes death easy to swallow. Drugs confuse us such that we don't know what we're swallowing.
