I suffer from MDD/PTSD. I tried ketamine for the first time last spring.
Immediately started to cry with happiness.
The world suddenly shifted to love and compassion.
I reflected on why I was suffering and felt grateful that there’s so many beautiful people in my life.
It’s truly a miracle drug but must absolutely be respected.

I had Ketamine in the e.r. when I broke my ankle in 3 spots with dislocation. I felt safe with the all the nurses and doctors around, so I was able to enjoy my trip while they reset my ankle. I experienced such a profound sense of peace and believe it has had a hugely positive impact on my mental health since.

I also broke my ankle (plates, screws) It was one year ago almost to the day. Still not right. I also was given Ketamine to set the ankle. It was the most terrifying experience I ever had. I had many hallucinations. I was in a tiny box (VERY CLAUSTROPHOBIC!) Someone was saying “you’re going to die!” Coming out of it was a nightmare too. I don’t what dose is proper, but I was given 50 ml. Perhaps lower does are very beneficial for therapy. Sorry for the long story

@@MedicalSecrets Actually I do think that ptsd is caused by the JC virus triggering the 5ht2a receptors. Thats why serotonin releasing agents, agonists of the 5ht2a and antagonists of it are very effective. High stress will deplete serotonin, and and the competitive affinity of the virus will make it bind to the receptor, due serotonin depletion. This creates thought loops and stress that can be diagnosed as ptsd. The same way that the 5ht2a agonists can create thought loops. what do you think? Maybe pure antagonists of the 5ht2a receptors without being agonist at any receptor, like mitrazapine or cyproheptadine might be the ideal solution to this sindrome? Maybe because K agonizes this receptor( and displaced the virus from its place via competitive affinity) wiith but does not stimulate any other is that because it is such a good thing? Serotonergic receptor stimulation for way too much time might deplete serotonin. Maybe because after stimulating massively 5ht2a receptors with mmvsshiezz these (the receptors) close for 2 weeks thats why it is so effective? You dont have to have multifocal leukoencefalopathy to have a mild jc virus infection, specially when most of the population was infected at some point and at battlefield conditions eventual and transitory inmunosupression is likely to occur, and this makes it to migrate to the nerves and trigger them. Idk my opinion and 2 cents. What do you think doc?

Ketamine has greatly improved my life.
I suffer from C-PTSD, major depressive disorder and anxiety, along with herniated and bulging discs on multiple levels of my vertebrae.
This disability has cost me my career in law enforcement, loss of family members and so much more.
I have been receiving IV ketamine (titration over 45 min) for ~5 years now and it has substantially improved my life function. I average a treatment once every 90 to 120 days.
Unfortunately, it is not covered by insurance and it is expensive, especially for someone who depends on SSDI as the only income.
I must budget and sacrifice for the treatment but it affords me some peace and some short term pain management as a bonus.
This should be covered by insurance for all

    • @Justagirlnamedshawn
      @Justagirlnamedshawn Год назад +27

Charles, I 100% understand where you are coming from. I had to give up the work I once loved, due to severe DDD, the RA that has wreaked havic on my joints, the spinal stenosis, the SI joint problems, no cushion in my disc's in my cervical and lumbar, it is just bone on bone, the constant pain, at times have made me want to end my life😢 trying to get help, and the druggies ruined it for chronic pain patients like myself, so we have to suffer. I struggle everyday, but I get up and push. If a person with chronic pain is trying to better their lives, and want to be able to work, because we definitely aren't getting rich on SSDI, insurance companies should be paying for this, or rather ANYTHING that would help us to prosper in life. It is a very sad way to treat well deserving people!

I recently had a double mastectomy due to breast cancer. The months before the surgery I was focused on worldly things preparing for it, and had no time to process my feelings about it. When I woke up from the anesthesia, I immediately knew exactly where I was and why. And I burst into tears. Huge sobs that I couldn't stop for a kind of long while. The nurses said it was the ketamine that caused that. If that's the case, it unblocked some emotions that are pretty important to express. I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but I think that went a long way to my being more at peace with what happened.

I got Covid end of 2019 and was so sick I thought I would die. I then developed horrible anxiety and agoraphobia. Luckily I was able to retire instead of getting the shot when mandates rolled out at work. I then rarely left the house and had groceries delivered and waited until after dark to get my mail out at the curb. Adrenal dumps every morning upon waking and at every stupid little sound were just terrible.
I researched and found an on line Ketamine doctor and they started me at 150 mg trouches every 3rd night. After a couple months my dose was increased to 400 and I hit my first K-hole. Scared the crap out of me and I honestly thought I had died. Did that a few more times and ended up quitting the treatment. Just couldn't do that anymore. But...one day very soon after I woke up and I was healed. I got in my car and ran some errands. I felt so free! It's been 6 months and I am still cured. I honestly believe Ketamine works miracles.

I rode a lot of space rockets. But I wouldn't be surprised if that's why I don't have PTSD from the accident ...all the ketamine they gave me over months and years in the hospital". Before ketamine I was an insecure person who had goals in life but always lost focus on them. Ketamine helped me focus and understand that life is what you make of it. I’ve had “bad trips” but even the bad trips have been substantial. The way I would describe Ketamine the best is you go through multiple layers of the brain, trying to understand where you went wrong and then focus on what needs to be done to get better.

That is so similar to how I would describe it mate! It’s so breathtaking not thinking anyone would understand, then coming here and reading these types of comments.
I was a massive coke, drink ect addict. I’d take anything that had an effect, except Ket.
It came to a point last year I lost everything, my relationship with my daughters mother, access to my baby girl, friends, pushed family away. I was a narcissistic, horrible depressive drunk who dug myself into a hole and healed myself by abusing my body rather than seeking help or waking up.
July 2023, a switch flipped, in the North East of England, pretty much anywhere in the UK, you can get pretty much anything quicker than you can get a pizza if you know people.
I got some K, having tried it as a teenager and hating it, and I was pretty nervous but I had nothing to lose, I heard vaguely of the benefits and thought I’d self medicate.
JAN 2024 and I’ve literally beat alcohol, coke and cannabis addiction (or moreso I can pick and choose when I want, which was something I could never do)
I have written almost 2 books of journals of my PTSD, History, piecing together why from a kid I ended up where I was as a teen, where I ended up at 24-25 ect, not something I even planned to do, it just shows the miracles K can do, the way you describe it is so accurate.
If I could put it as simply but as easy to understand as you have, I’d say it’s almost asif the K was with me, supporting me on my journey, understood me and instilled a sense of belief and in my view, god in me, it made me unpick my brain, tackling each issue with every experience, some were HORRIBLE, but not in the way they made me uncomfortable, they were just dark trips which benefited me by unveiling nasty truths I’d hidden from my own conscious.
Like anything in excess it’s bad, but K, to me, someone who actually couldn’t stand the stuff not even a year ago, I now truly believe it’s a miracle cure. NOTHING the doctors could have given me would have fast tracked me to where I am today.
I have gained 2 qualifications to work in certain industries on good money during the time I’ve been self medicating with K, resolves family issues and lost a beer belly, all in 6 months!
I still worry about the effects on my liver/bladder/kidneys, but for what it done for my mental health, which was borderline daily suicide, I am just relieved at last!

Enlightening! Unfortunately we MUST come up with other ways to help us with constant pain. I’m not complaining, because I am BLESSED. I have CPRS, the pain is unbelievable. After all the nerve blocks I was allowed, pain medication is my only way to cope. The problem is trying to fill a prescription.I’ve been shunned, and eyes rolled at me from many Pharmacists. One actually told me I should try a different medicine. I feel like a street drug addict. I only take enough to control this pain. NEVER the amount I’m prescribed, it takes a huge emotional toll as well. No one can see nerve pain, I look fine, my own family members have poked fun at me!
After listening to this video to the end, I don’t think it’s for me, but for anyone it helps… hooray!

I have severe cervical dystonia and chronic pancreatitis from a gallbladder surgery that caused my bile duct to have a blockage. If I could just go 10 minutes without pain, I really think it would make a difference in my life. I was given ketamine in the emergency room, but all I remember is I felt like a robot lol. I think I have medical depression and PTSD. My cervical dystonia was caused from a nausea medication given to me. I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired and it would be great to have some help feeling better.

In only 3 infusions, I have seen more progress for my depression and PTSD than I have in over 40 years of traditional therapy! I also have chronic pain from degenerative disc disease and hope that my body will respond better to the pain (I know that Ketamine will NOT stop mechanical pain).
It's definitely not a magic bullet, but used in the appropriate settings can really benefit those of us who have suffered for decades with the dark cloud of depression and PTSD.

I've gone through IV ketamine treatment for Dysthymia and treatment resistant double depression. For almost a year before I started the treatment I had severe crippling panic attacks multiple times a week, I had been on multiple medications for over 3 years (SSRI, SNRI, the works), and I was getting quite hopeless for anything to actually do anything useful, and tho not quite ready to give up on myself or life, I was getting to a state where I didn't want to really do anything to help either, knowing I'd fall back in a few days during some severe panic attack. Talking with my Psychiatrist the ketamine route became really clear quite quickly. My wife and I luckily had some money set aside, which allowed us to fly to the US and get proper treatment.
Tho I didn't see much change at first, my wife told me later she saw improvement instantly, but didn't want to say anything about it, afraid it would be detrimental to the progress. I started feeling better after about 4 treatments. It was odd, my brain started making connections it hadn't before, and in the days after every treatment I found myself pondering life in a much healthier way and coming to insights that for some reason I didn't want to see before.
It's now about 10 weeks after my very first infusion, and 6 weeks after my last. My mind hasn't been this healthy in a long time and I've found myself wanting to do more things. I haven't had a single panic attack in 10 weeks. Most of all, I had to re-learn a lot of emotions. People feel sad sometimes, and I totally forgot that. I was living in such a sad and dark place, I didn't realize that bad feelings don't have to last. Don't get me wrong, it's not a fix all, and my dysthymia is still there, creating a black lining where others might see a silver one, but it has allowed me to actually build a bit of a life again and trust that there is help, and that, in the end, this too shall pass.

The few times i have done K nasally from dealers i never knew if id even like it and loved it. Wasnt something i wanted to abuse like the benzos or opiates, but i always felt so good afterwards and more willing to do the work i know i need to do. But when i have tried it i was not living correctly and also abusing the other substances. I truly believe that if i were to use Ket now while being clean and sober it would really be of help to me with my overwhelming daily anxiety and depression that usually leads me to self medicating with benzos and opiates etc that always lead to me regretting ever even picking up to begin with and leaving me stuck in the hole i subconsciously dug myself into while using without even realizing 😅

But just really realizing now how it could have and still could be super beneficial to me for getting better as ive been on every type of ssri/snri antidepressant etc and none of them work for me i swear 😑 😢

I have huge respect for this molecule and wish it didn't have the negative stigma of a dangerous party drug. If you have the opportunity to try it, do so in the privacy of a safe environment and micro-dose it. Also do not expect every experience to be the same. It is best to regard it as a sacred ritual, and only used periodically. You quickly build a tolerance for it, and it can become habit forming. Respect it, and it will give you treasure.

My youngest brother Leslie committed suicide age 16. My oldest brother Monty overdosed on heroin. My brother Dale, (the middle child with me) intensionally overdosed on fentanyl. My mother has schizophrenia and is now in a nursing home. Over the years I have tried everything for depression with no relief. At age 65, I feel life will never be worth living but I still hang on. Maybe had my mother been treated for her illness years ago, my three brothers may still be alive. I would love to try ketamine but it's not covered my medicare.

Now I am traveling to see my grandchildren and loving my life.
I LOVED the entire experience because I have very little fear and no anxiety. I know... Lucky me.

I never knew they used ketamine in surgery. Every interesting. I don’t know what they used back in the eighties, it left you nauseous for a half of a day! Propofol and the cocktail you use is so much more gentle! I usually wake up still in the OR. I start dreaming then some noise will wake me up. In a month or so not sure going to have more surgery. I had the Holep procedure, and then had a dilation for a urethra stricture. I still have two structures so I’m going to have a urethroplasty done in a month or so hopefully it will take care of the strictures. The video is very interesting thank you.

I've had so many injections that I've forgotten how many, plus until 2 years ago, I had 2 Spinal cord stimulator implants (they removed the cervical one, I just have a lumbar one now) would ketamine help make the constant burning from the RSD/CRPS?

I have extremely aggressive endometriosis (2 significant surgeries one of which was 10 hours, included a vats and diaphragmatic dissection). I received ketamine in a pain clinic in Toronto once. It scared me that I was pain free for the first time in my life. It reset my pain management tolerance and I restarted at a low dose of tramadol with my local pain dr after (I was taking lots of tramadol and oxycodone). If I wasn’t so afraid of the feeling of being so pain free I would have continued. The Dr was great but I didn’t feel like I deserved that feeling or that it was real. It was so incredible. I was so afraid of addiction or dependence. I wish this video was available at that time. Thank you for opening the dialogue for those of us who suffer silently. In Canada most Drs won’t take the time to actually explain the medicine so I didn’t understand what I was taking/feeling or how it was working. Also here when you receive a ketamine infusion they leave you alone in the room, once the iv is done the nurse does vitals and you go home. You don’t see the dr after at all. It’s crazy how different you explain it.

Hi Dr. Kaveh, I have had some of those poor experiences you describe at the end of this video. Two days ago I had my 7th infusion (this one was a booster after the initial 6). The nurse anesthesiologist (she's studying for her nursing psych degree) I've been working with seems to lack compassion, essentially attempting to have a therapy session with me as I'm coming out of the ketamine and barely functional. This time she started telling me I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place with my anger, and asking me who I'd be without it and then informing me it's keeping me safe. Again, my fingers and toes were still numb and I had all these bodily sensations I was trying to process and here she is asking me questions my intuition told me weren't even on the right track. The reason I wanted to do ketamine infusions in the first place was to get to the "stuckness" in my subconscious. I'm also wondering if my dose is too high (.65/kg, I believe) as I'm extremely sensitive to drugs to begin with, and my sessions can feel really frightening. It takes me 5-6 hours to feel normal again. Lastly, she has no recovery room and forces me to leave when I'm barely coherent. This last experience left me feeling unsafe and uncared for and like I definitely won't ever go back to her and I most likely will never do ketamine again.
I will say my depression and suicidal ideation was greatly lessened after the first series of 6, but there were no nice feelings of warmth and connection, only sobbing and screaming and shaking during the sessions and being afraid I'd never come out of them again. I had to keep telling myself "I'm okay, I'm okay, I'm okay" endlessly. I know in one session I asked her if I was dying. This doesn't feel like this is how it's supposed to be.

Oh, I'd be very peeved off having a woman like that around me as i'm coming out of the medication she's very unkind. I hope you said to somebody what she said. You know people like compassion in this world, and just because they're in the medical industry doesn't mean that they are kind and loving.
But you knew you were going to come out of it. Sometimes, when we rely on our own inner child to help us through things, it's the best thing that we can do because sometimes people are there for our. Best interests. I always believe in the power of prayer, and I remember after my mom took her own life. It was extremely hard for me when I was seventeen years old.
Years later, somebody told me a scripture, and I would like to share it with you. It's in the book of Psalms, and it's chapter thirty-four, and its verse 18 eighteen.
There is a god who cares and remember that.

It's like that when we carry all our baggage around our life. We don't have a life because we are like the homeless. We don't have a life because we have not found the life that is available for us. It's because we hang on to everything for what recent maybe it's because we'd like to punish ourselves. I don't know what your reason is but you gotta. I have only fiddled with Ketamine in a recreational setting, but found it far more than fun, in fact I found it even challenging in some cases, but always followed by a positive pay-off.
I personally find it to be very interesting, and i assume it to be something worth further exploration when it comes to managing mental health / resets of consciousness..
I look forward to learning more on the matter, and hopefully this substance will continue to maintain its place in the eye of scientific research for the sake of health, growth, and clarity.
