john fahey - sunflower river blues (cover)

Hi! Here is another very dark video (colorwise), I really tried to get ahead of it this time but the sun just managed to sneak away in time. Oh well. This is a song I randomly stumbled upon a couple of months ago. I really love how moody it is, the original recording of it is pretty old so it sounds all crackley and wobbly, it's great. You've probably already answered this elsewhere but - whats your recording setup like?

Don't think so actually!! For acoustic stuff like this it's as basic as it gets: I use my Zoom H6 with the X/Y head on, place it at about the 12th fret (if it's a guitar) and fairly close, then adjust the input so when I play really loud it doesnt clip. That's it, then I take it into the computer and do some minor adjustments like normalising and a little EQ. This guitar gets a little bassy so I usually have to cut some of that out.

@@tgp4871 Oh that's a good idea, I've tried recording with a pretty decent dynamic and condenser mic in my office but I've never been happy with the quality, usually need to bump the gain a lot to get anything good out of it and then I run into a lot of clipping and stuff, and what I really hate is that for banjo you can usually hear my hand rubbing against the pot head/skin more than you can hear the actual notes, which doesn't seem to represent what I hear with my own ears irl. The portable mic looks like a great option and I could start recording outside of the office. Thanks!
