  • Hi! Here is another very dark video (colorwise), I really tried to get ahead of it this time but the sun just managed to sneak away in time. Oh well. This is a song I randomly stumbled upon a couple of months ago. I really love how moody it is, the original recording of it is pretty old so it sounds all crackley and wobbly, it's great. Do listen to it, if you haven't already, and take care :)

You've probably already answered this elsewhere but - whats your recording setup like?

Don't think so actually!! For acoustic stuff like this it's as basic as it gets: I use my Zoom H6 with the X/Y head on, place it at about the 12th fret (if it's a guitar) and fairly close, then adjust the input so when I play really loud it doesnt clip. That's it, then I take it into the computer and do some minor adjustments like normalising and a little EQ. This guitar gets a little bassy so I usually have to cut some of that out.

@@tgp4871 Oh that's a good idea, I've tried recording with a pretty decent dynamic and condenser mic in my office but I've never been happy with the quality, usually need to bump the gain a lot to get anything good out of it and then I run into a lot of clipping and stuff, and what I really hate is that for banjo you can usually hear my hand rubbing against the pot head/skin more than you can hear the actual notes, which doesn't seem to represent what I hear with my own ears irl. The portable mic looks like a great option and I could start recording outside of the office. Thanks!
