- I created my own Game Boy game! Not an imitation, but rather an actual ROM. It was quite the trip.

It'd be really cool to port Sonic the Hedgehog to the gameboy, since you asked for suggestions. Something simple, none of that momentum and slope stuff.
i got as far as movement in gbdk and realised i was in over my head as well xD

man this Scotty midi master is absolutely nailing it! No offence but music alone ramps it all up like 5 flasjing stars on top of that! (which are actually 2 8px sprites tossing about the screen).

I didn't bother with a publisher. The game is no where near as polished as some of the other games coming out for Game Boy.
As for ZGB, the tutorial is a good start, but for me I found it more useful to dig through the code of other ZGB projects. Many of the projects are linked right from the ZGB GitHub page. Good Luck

Hey do you know if I can make something like this and put it on a cartridge I'm making a surprise for a retro lover (I'm also a retro love)
Technically yes, I was able to play it on real hardware using one of those flash cartridges. The gameboy community is able to create custom legit cartridges but I have no idea how you would/could go about that.

@DistractedCoder I've done a lot of research and people made a cartridge and a little connecter to connect the cartridge to the computer and using a app you can put roms on to Gameboy Gameboy color and Gameboy advanced

A lot of resources are linked from the ZGB Github page github.com/Zal0/ZGB. You can find the Wiki which covers the tutorial game and links to other projects creatd with ZGB. The GBDK Discord channel has a dedicated section for ZGB and the people there are quite helpful.

Since you're open to suggestions, i reckon you can make a playable of these bumpers from Fox Kids Europe in Unity Engine with a story, bosses, character creation ala Sonic Forces etc..
