For the performance improvements : Lower the poly count of your models, enable gpu instancing in materials, mark object as static that are static ( no movement, no scaling, no animation), turn off shadows where not needed, pre bake the lighting on static objects. Hope this helps, amazing work. Also, if this doesn't help, your last option would be threading or using unity Jobs system.
Another tip: If you still want an object to cast shadows but don't need it to be affected by other shadows you can turn off recieve shadows which can significantly improve performance
I thought this would be “I spent 1 year publishing my first game” but simply changing the words from “I” to “We” makes this journey feel so powerful, I’ve been here since the first video on this game, and I rewatched the videos at least 4 times.
Ideas for the power ups at the very end! Box: An animation plays where the player puts the box over them whilst running, and then disappears to everyone else, and becoming translucent on the screen of that player, no idea for purpose, maybe you can push people. Jet pack: Very fat but very short burst of speed, so you can easily over take someone directly in front of you Jack in the box: Either you pop out of the ground next to a random player or it pops up, scaring a player and knocking them back Chilli pepper: Already discussed in the video, speeeed Camera: Basically just a child friendly flash bang, it will be taken out and clicked, making a bright light and stunning a nearby player Wrecking ball: Hits the player, launching them forward in a wide arc Fire extinguisher: Basically bullet bill from Mario kart, if a player is doing very badly, they get this power up and speed ahead, knocking away anyone they collide with
Just a suggestion but for the third branch of the museum I've seen a LED wall from a museum where all the investors and contributors to the museum were displayed in a pillar in some sort of a diagonal marquee. You should make a game-mode with lava rising where instead of a race you have to survive the lava and each time it rises faster until there is only one player left
Actually, keep the dodgeball. You could rework the mechanics so that it bounces off walls like a green shell from Mario Kart. You can scrap the aiming though, make it so you throw it in the direction you're facing.
Hey Cody! I was watching this video and you mentioned there being a problem with the FPS. What most games do with that problem is make objects that are farther away from the camera lower quality, and if they have animations the FPS of that animation is lowered also. I don't know how to program this, but I hope it helps!
I think you should do something with the kick up. If the character would fall from a very high place and falls down it would make some sense for the character to fall and then do a kick up but do what you guys want to do.
Maybe a way you could get an alternate costume is by finding it in a level. For example, you could find a queen bee costume (for the bee, BEElieve it or not) in the Tree Spring level just off to the side of the main track, like how at 8:00 you have the hot tub off to the side. It could be ordering other bees to do something and you get the costume in some way similar to how you get bonus characters in TABS, you look at it, or stand near it for 10 seconds and it glows until you get the costume. Great vid, and best of luck developing your game.
@@CodyCantEatThis Well also it can be seen that the polygon count goes from 200k to 5.0M, maybe LODs and occlusion culling could do something to disable stuff when it is not visible. I might be wrong tho, but hope it helps
12:35 when someone gets hit by an item, the animation should be them falling forwards instead of backwards because of the momentum they previously had.
8:34 Look into occlusion culling - it seems like your game is rendering a lot of geometry that it doesn't need to. Unity has a built in solution for this, so that could help a lot (if you're not already doing this).
I think the frame drops are most likely due to the polygon amounts in the level, so perhaps split the models into chunks each one with varying levels of detail depending on how far away the player is and being culled out or something like that if it isnt visible to the player
no it absolutely isn't. art this simple should have virtually zero issues running with that amount. the real culprit is probably that the level was setup in unity instead of blender. in blender you could have all the separate meshes be a single object, which is way faster for calculating things like lighting. don't just make random guesses when you don't understand game development.
@@RR-rx2kq right but "thinking" out loud and saying the literal most obvious conclusion that has very clearly been thought of already helps literally no one except it makes him feel better - so really it was just him selfishly pretending like he had something to add
@@Squidmoto3 geez man im just tryna help in some way, you dont need to be that rude. i literally just like talking about games thats all im wanting to do. I don't need to be selfish and i want to genuinely learn game development stuff, so dont be so harsh on someone for stating the obvious, yes I know its the obvious, I don't know what else to say about it other than assuming and then pointing it out because I honestly half thought they werent sure what the issue was, instead of laying off on someone try you know, calmly telling them that the person making the game may have thought of it already instead of claiming that the guy saying so is selfish. If I am being annoying, doing something that others would hate and someone points it out to me with really good reasoning I'll stop, or probably maybe would delete it in this case. If people really want me to delete this comment I will.
Just wanted to let you know you are right Huski, this is something I have also had issues with, and while there are multiple factors for the low frame rates, the very high poly counts are one of them! You can see in the video the game is rendering over 30 million polys at points of low frame rate. While the art is simply and "low poly" in style, theres no optimization done to it atm. Often times 'low poly' style ends up actually using a higher amount of polys than other styles because it doesn't have the luxury of using things like textures and normal maps to fill in details and they have to model the details in. MC is an asshole, it sucks to have people like that in a community that should be trying to help each other.
Wouldn't it be cool if all colors had different idle animations to show they have different personalities(red is impatient and wants to run, blue yawns, green is waving somewhere, yellow is nervous, etc)
As somone who wants to learn game dev I love ur videos and have since I was young, you always get me exited about game dev all the time, thank you, love ur vids :D

Fire Extinguisher: probably like bullet bill from the mario kart games??? Chilli: speed boost? Jack in the box: stuns other players if they are close??? Maybe like a jump pad??? idk what else
That’s a lot of custom cosmetics! I see how it’s putting you behind schedule somewhat, but it shows you care and it looks like it will be a really fun and valuable game
Hello Cody. I just finished the video a few minutes ago, and I found an inconsistency with your level design. (This is something that other racing games such as Mario Kart does not have, and I found it in the level design of your Jungle/Hot Spring’s beginner level.) The inconsistency is that there is no sense of direction in your map levels. Let me explain. In the minutes that you displayed your jungle level, I observed little to no indicators that urged the player to participate in a race. Now, this is not a problem for a specific type of players: These players like to explore the warm and cozy map at their own pace, paying attention to the surroundings, and forgetting about winning the race entirely. But unfortunately, you know that is not the type of game for those type of players. This is a race. They’re supposed to focus on the thrill of the race, and the race itself, instead of the decorations alongside the road. What you’re lacking is visual feedback. When the player is absorbed in all of these finer details, they forget that they need to beat the race itself. In order to make them stay focused on the track, visual feedback is an absolute necessity. An arrow along the road, pointing to the finish line, may inspire one to move in that direction. A flaming wall chasing the player behind, slowly burning and following the track, may give players a sense of urgency to constantly move. Games like Mario Kart use direction and slopes to encourage behaviors like this: with some maps having you constantly descending or ascending, so you don’t lose focus on your movement. Your map does not have any of that. From my view, it is like when one leisurely explores a jungle hot spring. I hope this advice helps.
I am really curious as to why almost all of the victory animations include negative scenarios for each costume. Being stung by bees, being trapped in jail, scared by a crow, etc. To me those almost come across as losing animations instead.
Just an idea: for the levels you haven’t already completed, maybe you could add a secret path that is a quicker route to the finish line. I noticed that you guys were inspired a lot from MarioKart and remembered that every MarioKart track actually has a shortcut. most of them are small but neat. I don’t want you to have to go back into a level you already completed just to add this, but it would be a fun bonus for people willing to search in the already detailed levels. This game is looking great and cannot wait to see it finished!
@@Farello485 Thanks for the reply. it always makes me happy when people respond to comments like these. It really makes me feel like I did it for a reason, and you have my respect now. Thanks!
Cody as someone who wants to pursue game development, seeing that it takes this long to make games really shows the work that goes into these games! It's really good to see the realistic progress, anyway I love your videos, can't wait to play this game!
I think the box powerup is like a weaker aura, you're invisible to the missile, the cloud, and other players but you can't damage other players and you don't get a speed boost
Idea for the jack in da box:if you have it you can place a box Down and if any other player get near the box a clown will come out and he will throw rubber balls at the player and if the player gets hit they get stunned
For those waiting on an update on the game, the music producer for it (WRMHOLE) had said that it’s going to be put on an indefinite hiatus due to a lack of funding, and unfortunately has low chances of returning.

You are the light of the world. Stay safe. 💪🏽❤️. Have a beautiful day💯💯💯❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love the game!!! I would love to play this. I recommend that the race course from the first video of this game should still be playable for a basic level, but it's up to you.
If you want to add a starting race animation, here’s an idea: After some time, the character will sit down and pull out some kind of handheld device or console, like a Switch or a Phone, and when they start moving they would put the phone away and roll to get a bit of a speed boost, kinda like the starting boost you can get if you hold A after the 2 in the countdown is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
with the question mark things, you should make it split in half, the question mark flies up to the top of the screen, and the question mark turns into the icon for the powerup.
Cody you can add idal animations for certain outfits like the boxer will start punching or the cop starts eating donuts these would be cool and you make back customization like you can add things for more customization like a mini punching bag or donuts hope these ideas help good luck Cody 😄
Idea for characters: add back custom characters, but make it so it works like gang beasts. If you’ve never played that game, it has a button to click to make a custom character, and once it is done, the character is saved to your personal skins. Also since you plan on making an in game shop, you should make it so you could buy more colors. Ex: white, brown, black, gold, silver, bronze, ruby, etc.
Perhaps in some stages like the beach, you could have some funfair-like mini-games along the stage that you have to complete in order to finish the race.
I have a couple ideas, the first one is for a power up idk if im the first one but it’s like a projectile that slows down anyone in range kinda like the rocket with a slow down effect, and the other is a home world kinda thing where you can go through a portal to the different levels
You should make it do when the player tries to go back at the next invisible checkpoint, It turns solid and doesn’t let them go back. Also maybe add a UI element that says something like “WRONG WAY!”
fun suggestion: can you make it so that when your invincible items that are thrown at you boounce back to the person who threw it. I dont think a single game has done this so far and it would make the game unique.
Powerup theories: Cardboard Box: causes the user to become completely invisible for a certain duration. Weapons won’t target them and will instead hit the ahead player, and positions won’t update if someone overtakes them while it’s active. Jack-in-the-box: Like the Wet Floor Sign, but larger, and explodes in a large radius either when a player comes close or after a certain amount of time. Chilli Pepper: Initiates a fire trail behind the user for a certain duration, which hits anyone caught in it. Jetpack: Allows free flight for as long as it’s active. Wrecking Ball: When used, appears and swings backward, knocking back any opponents hit. Fire Extinguisher: Similar to the Mario Kart Bullet Bill. The character will begin riding it and it’ll travel up the course either to your current usurper or just for a certain amount of time.

Actually, keep the dodgeball. You could rework the mechanics so that it bounces off walls like a green shell from Mario Kart. You can scrap the aiming though, make it so you throw it in the direction you're facing.
I like the dedication to this game, you and your team have been working on this for a while now. This game is looking amazing.
it does take a while for him to upload. but when he does he always comes out with a banger.

Can't wait for the full release!
I'm sad to say its canceled :'( look at his latest community post comments :'(
Brah
Concept idea for the ball power up: you can allow the ball to follow a set track and have it bounce around basically adding a moving obstacle
14:30
Rocket: High Altitude
Camera: Flashbang
Wrecking Ball: Big Knockback
When the game is revealed,it is always perfect.
8:40 I think all you should do is mark the non-moving elements as static, that should fix most of it as can be seen by the Batches count
We've tried that and it helped somewhat but not completely
@@CodyCantEatThis Well also it can be seen that the polygon count goes from 200k to 5.0M, maybe LODs and occlusion culling could do something to disable stuff when it is not visible. I might be wrong tho, but hope it helps
12:35 when someone gets hit by an item, the animation should be them falling forwards instead of backwards because of the momentum they previously had.
yeah, but then ppl would abuse them to give em a speedboost probably
8:34 Look into occlusion culling - it seems like your game is rendering a lot of geometry that it doesn't need to. Unity has a built in solution for this, so that could help a lot (if you're not already doing this).
I tried occlusion culling once and it crashed while baking. I haven't tried it since then lol
Ive been waiting so long for this. Im crying tears of joy. Thank you cody
Its not that deep cuz
@@randomdudewithdog it is
@@randomdudewithdog you're not that deep cuz
For the Dodge ball you could use something like the Mario kart tour hammer item, where they go straight but if some one is close the item tracks them
Luz actually is a gane developer comfirmed!!???
This looks incredible!
I literally can’t wait for it to come out! It looks amazing! :)
Would love to see specific idle animations depending on which skin you’re wearing
@@huskitroop748 yeah id go ahead and delete it brotha
When Cody uploads, you know it’s going to be a good day
You stole the comment above you
it's been almost a year, you know what that means... 3 more moths til another upload... yay
Yup
As somone who wants to learn game dev I love ur videos and have since I was young, you always get me exited about game dev all the time, thank you, love ur vids :D
Idea time:
About the idle animation you make a unique animation for each costume so that people can feel amazed at it
Hope you like
Sincerely: Hero Jared❤️
This is actually an amazing idea
WHEN WE NEED HIM THE MOST, HE RETURNS
Fire Extinguisher: probably like bullet bill from the mario kart games???
Chilli: speed boost?
Jack in the box: stuns other players if they are close??? Maybe like a jump pad???
idk what else
Idea for an achievement: being at first place in the resort and then stopping to go in the hot tub, name uhh.. “hot tub break”
the game got cancelled. Wormhole confirmed it
That’s a lot of custom cosmetics!
So like Mount Wario from Mario Kart?
fun fact apples are healthier than meth
Wdym?
He means they spend way to much effort on this game
It’s amazing that it went from updating “my” first game to “our” first game. Keep up the good work! 👍
I am really curious as to why almost all of the victory animations include negative scenarios for each costume. Being stung by bees, being trapped in jail, scared by a crow, etc. To me those almost come across as losing animations instead.
Me too!
In the finished level there is already a shortcut on the 2nd corner, the 2 mushrooms🤔but otherwise a lot more shortcuts would be cool 👍
@@Farello485 Thanks for the reply. it always makes me happy when people respond to comments like these. It really makes me feel like I did it for a reason, and you have my respect now. Thanks!
for the dodge ball you can make the player go into first person and make them aim at the closet player near them.
These turn animation left right while walking doesn't even got right in Wayfinder or Palia 💀
it's been 16 months
Can't wait! I'm sure you could do so much more in a year.
4 months until the next 1 year vid i hope
Cody as someone who wants to pursue game development, seeing that it takes this long to make games really shows the work that goes into these games! It's really good to see the realistic progress, anyway I love your videos, can't wait to play this game!
You should watch Jonas Tyroller he's a great game dev RUclipsr
I think the box powerup is like a weaker aura, you're invisible to the missile, the cloud, and other players but you can't damage other players and you don't get a speed boost
It's been over a year, Cody... New game update?
My man Cody was working so hard, the cops were searching for him. What a madlad.
amazing
Idea for the jack in da box:if you have it you can place a box
Down and if any other player get near the box a clown will come out and he will throw rubber balls at the player and if the player gets hit they get stunned
Don’t worry guys, it’s almost gonna be 1 year ago which means we get the next video
Edit: nvm I guess
Yay
Its been a year
For those waiting on an update on the game, the music producer for it (WRMHOLE) had said that it’s going to be put on an indefinite hiatus due to a lack of funding, and unfortunately has low chances of returning.
they need a crowdfunding campaign

The video isn’t a year old yet 😅
Soon
Bro doesn’t even know how long a year is
Be patient don’t just expect the video to come out at the earliest time possible
I am invest in this game
Add an Explorer Mode so the players can freely explor without racing but you have to get 1st place on all the tracks to unlock it
2 more months to go....
That's what I was gonna say lol😂
Les go

I love the game!!! I would love to play this. I recommend that the race course from the first video of this game should still be playable for a basic level, but it's up to you.
If you want to add a starting race animation, here’s an idea:
After some time, the character will sit down and pull out some kind of handheld device or console, like a Switch or a Phone, and when they start moving they would put the phone away and roll to get a bit of a speed boost, kinda like the starting boost you can get if you hold A after the 2 in the countdown is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
with the question mark things, you should make it split in half, the question mark flies up to the top of the screen, and the question mark turns into the icon for the powerup.
Ideas I have for your game: Make the jet pack basically the bullet bill power up. Make the camera freeze everyone in frame.
I just watched all of your "my first game" videos and i just wanted to say that it's really cool to see you more confident now than back then
It would be cool if one of the waiting animations would be the player tapping his foot and leaning back like sonic in classic games
Can’t wait for the next update, hopefully a release date this time but no pressure, the game looks awesome great job
fun suggestion: can you make it so that when your invincible items that are thrown at you boounce back to the person who threw it. I dont think a single game has done this so far and it would make the game unique.
Powerup theories:
Cardboard Box: causes the user to become completely invisible for a certain duration.
So hyped for this . I really like the personality of the game !
