Respirator and even eye protection is essential when spraying any 2k clear or primer. Solvents seap into your skin, but definitely don’t want to breath the vapors in. 👍👍
I’ve had spoons coming out my arse for a long time. Used to wear out my wife. Spoons and chopsticks to stick parts to and stick them into a box to hold them for drying. I’d go into P.F. Chang’s and leave with 10 sets each time.
I’ll occasionally spray a little bit of paint in my booth without a mask, probably too often. I will NEVER spray any 2 part primer, sealer or clear without a mask. It gets into your lung and sticks to the Alveoli and hardens and will never leave but it makes the alveoli it sticks to, useless. Paint will usually dry before it hits your lungs but it won’t stick and eventually you’ll cough it up. Not clear tho. A few times isn’t going to kill you, but it adds up. I’ve been painting models on and off for 20 years. That’s plenty of time to screw up your golden years. A good spray booth knocks it way down but a little always stays around you. If you can smell it, it can and probably will get in your lungs
Yup. This stuff is so nasty that even 3M wont rate their respirators for it. Anyone looking to spray this needs, at minimum, full-body PPE including FRESH respirator cartridges (3M 60921) and very good ventilation. People need to research isocyanates and determine for themselves if they can spray 2K clears safely. These are industrial paints and people who work with these for a living wear full supplied-oxygen suits to stay safe. I can't see a reason why this sort of information wasn't mentioned in the video, description, or as a pinned comment. Barbatos is well aware of the dangers of these paints and has actively chosen not to provide this important information to his viewers. I wonder why.
That is why for clear I spray enamel thinned with lacquer thinner. 2K clear is great but too easy to make the model look like candy apple. Plus it is a _bitch_ to sand down to fix any imperfection.
Never Spray any Paint without an Mask No Vallejo,no Tamiya ,no 2k clear You have only one lung And before you buy the next Model buy an Spray booth that blows the Air Outside
@@Acuno_ Its kind of bizarre. He mentioned the fc750 (IIRC) as being ISO free in a previous video. I in amazement almost purchased, but then contacted the company and they confirmed it did indeed have ISOs. Stuff is no joke not sure why he treats it so lightly.
“Mr. Showtime.” The hardest working man in the business. Your success is truly a great labor of love and the spirit of sharing knowledge of what we find our centerness in. The hobby is lucky to have a genuine person as you are.
Your videos are exactly what I was looking for. Someone who is only interested in testing product, no shoving sponsors down my throat, no unnecessary polish on production. Thanks, here's to 1 million subs!
People have problems with the hardener going bad due to the design of the can. What they do not realize is that when they are tightening the cap the clear lip part is also turning. If you hold that with your thumb and index finger while tightening you should not have that problem. If you thin it with reducer at almost 1:1 with the clear it look much nicer IMO. Congrats on 50K !!!
I clean my guns with cheap lacquer thinner. Works great. Goggles, respirator, gloves are a must. Long sleeve shirt as well. I don’t spray cars anymore, but I’m still spraying instruments on a weekly basis. If I’m spraying 2k clear, I’m not spraying it in my little house booth. I’m out in my shop’s spray booth-yes, even for a model.
Spray aqua gloss over the chrome first. Let it dry fully, then mist on 2k clear... wait for 2 min.... then med wet coat it.... wait 2 min....then flow wet coat and let it cure for a day. Works perfect on alclad and othe sensitive chrome paints. The 2k actually helps bring back the chrome effect that may be slightly lost after the aqua gloss layer. Spray it lightly first... let it flash off a little.... then medium wet coat... then full wet coat. Hope it works better for you. PEACE!
Congratulations on the 50K you master of the paints and tips for us modellers. Well deserved and keep them comming. You Will make us all Paint specialists. Been using that automotive 2k about 1 year now. Before that i used the slash boxes.Could do 2-3 carbody,s with 1 box. Privé tag about €25,- OR $25-30. I have payed at that shop for 1liter clear,0.5 liter activatie and 1 liter of thinner in Total €45,- OR $ 45-50. Done now 12 small carkits and 1 tractor and fridgetrailer all in scale 1-24 and got still 60% left over in the tijd. Savings a huge amount of money and a super result. That greenstuff world cameleon colors are insane. Never thought i would use my airbrush as much as i do now,and that is because of your vid,s.
Congratulations on the 50k subscriptions!! Your literally the go to guy when it comes curiosity!! You make saving money, time, and gives me confidence to do basically everything to my gunpla - with ease!! Again Congratulations you deserved 👏 it Rex
Thanks again for yet another high value review for all of us. I'm glad to know that Acme is still in business... I'll pick up a box of their dynamite as well since I have a roadrunner problem on my property.😉
I've painted cars and motorcycles for years and now getting back into building models again and I'm sure others will bring this up regarding the safety aspect of spraying 2k urethane. As you mentioned, they are a gift to painters everywhere; incredible finish, easy to use, easy to apply, durable, flexible and once cured, resilient to just about everything on the planet. These paints use a chemical bonding process (like epoxy) to cure but also contain isocyanates. The combination can be dangerous very quickly. If you choose to do this frequently, a proper respirator and ventilation system is an absolute must as should be gloves and goggles. Clean up requires acetone which in itself can be nasty too. Have fun and enjoy but be careful with this stuff.
Came across these awsome videos few weeks ago. Just now getting into airbrush. Always been a rattle can guy myself. But these reviews help me decide what to buy. Keep up the great work.
Your channel gave me the confidence to airbrush with alclad chrome paints and everything is explained in such great detail all for free. An essential resource for hobbyists. I was able to make a very cool looking rg zeong that I am proud of. You deserve the subscribers.
I recently started building Gundam models this year and wanted to start getting into painting and customizing them. I found your channel, it is so informative and the videos are so detailed. I didn't even make it to the end of the first video and I subscribed. Congrats on the 50k keep it up!
Congratulations on the 50k that is one hell of an accomplishment. I wish I had half the skills you have. I've always wondered if auto 2k was sprayable in some way to plastic models and now I know because of you. Thank you for all that you do for us fans. I talk about you just about every day to a friend that's just getting back into model cars since all the kids have moved out lol. Look forward to the car body paint job because that's what I enjoy building. Thanks and congrats 🎉 again. Keep on rocking and making the videos and I'll keep watching them.

Congrats on the 50k milestone. Another great video. I love the finish 1 clear been using it for a while on my model cars. Bought it on Amazon. Good stuff. Congrats again.
Congratulations on reaching the 50k milestone! Although you say you are shocked to reach these heights, you shouldn’t be. Your passion for your subject matter comes through with each video, making them informative and an enjoyable watch/listen.
i did my first 2k clear on a Tamiya Subaru Impreza WRC kit, i used Gravity spains 2k and was shocked how far the paint went, 1st tack coat (rough finish) leave for around 2 mins followed by another medium coating again 2 mins for the thinners to flash off followed by a final wet coat. allowed a week for it to fully cure and the shine is amazing, but yes it's identical to what car (automotive) spray shops use.
Count me in on the contest. Congratulations on getting 50k subscribers. Great test of that 2K clear. I’m definitely going to order a quart of that stuff. Thanks for sharing.

You could try using an acrylic clear over the chrome, then the 2k. I've seen other makers do that with some large 3d printed props painted with Alclad and Duralumen.

It doesn’t surprise me. You’re the best on this subject on RUclips.
Have you tried Minwax polyurethane for wood as a clear?
