This high bitrate MOD is based on newest Viofo Parking Mode Beta v1.80 firmware which fixes Low Bitrate Recording bug found in v1.70
Requesting confirmation these W-series MODs work with all Parking Modes using Hardwire Kit or Power Bank. If other Parking Modes don't work with high Bitrates use MOD-PMi or MOD-PMj.

Hey I just picked up a A129 Duo IR, Will these firmware updates work on the IR version of the A129 with same installation instructions etc.? Im assuming everythings the same between the A129 and the A129IR, do I have that correct? The Viofo site lists all the same specs other than the A129 specifically shows info about the supercapacitors rather than the IR features but everything else looks the same to me. My biggest reason for getting the A129 was the buffered parking mode, and I chose the IR version over the regular thinking that the IR would do alright with night time parking surveillance for the rear (I have a pickup truck with a camper and tinted windows on the camper). Thanks for all the videos on these, these were huge for me when deciding to go with the Viofo cams over others.
using A129 Duo non-IR firmware on the IR camera removes the IR Camera Menu option to activate the 4 IR LEDs. The A129 Duo non-IR Dashcam now supports buffered parking with FW v1.80+. The main A129 camera is the same, difference is only IR rear camera and the special IR firmware. Parking Mode works when power cable is connected to camera side port not GPS mount. Owners of the A129 Infrared Camera with 180 degree Lens rotation unhappy with official IR firmware sharpness, color or low bitrate detail should contact Viofo for improvements or request custom modified firmware by BCHobbyist.

@@bchobbyist Thank you! I might be reaching out to you for that possible custom firmware. Going to test out the a129IR and see how the nighttime parking mode looks, and also reach out to Viofo about bumping up those bitrates :) Thanks for all the help!

My A129 Duo keeps shutting down using Auto Event Detection (v1.8) due to the summer heat.
Do you think it’s possible to add a heat sink or maybe even a fan?
There is no easy way to add heatsink or fan above chipset, doubt it would reduce the temperature in full sun while Parking Mode is running. Extreme summer 103F/40C temperatures can damage all devices left on the dash, most dashcams can't handle that type of intense prolonged heat. There isn't enough room for internal fan, inadequate vents for external mounting. There are limits to operating temperatures these dashcams can handle.
Is the parking mode record in high bitrate too or low bitrate?
FW v1.80 Parking Mode records in different Bitrates depending on option selected. Parking Time Lapse uses same bitrate as normal recording, Parking Low Bitrate Recording uses locked 4 Mb/s.
@@bchobbyist i found out in this mod (v1.8), I cant access my cam using usb cable connect to the cam. I need to remove the sd card and using card reader to access it.
confirmed computer USB connection to A129 for "microSD CardReader Mode" file transfer utility no longer works as expected using official Viofo v1.80 firmware or MODs. Obviously Viofo has made a change to functionality. It works perfectly using FW v1.50 with MODs.

in the normal FW what is the bitrate under High settings ?
second question, any chance we can have videos from the cam in one file instead of hundreds of videos scattered in the memory card ?...

A129 stock firmware bitrate is 16 to 20 Mb/s.
Dashcam storage partition is FAT32 restricted to 4 GB maximum file size. Writing MP4 video files larger than 1GB increases chance of file corruption especially on last file of a crash and when using slow speed cheap memory cards. Dashcams are designed to record accident evidence in the most reliable way. Use 3min loop recording clips or less for maximum recording survive-ability, setting 10min clip duration isn't recommended.
