      I would definately agree with you but unfortunately I've known people who are like that legitimately.
      They don't interact at school and only speak mandarin at home or with other mandarin speaking friends. Rather than schools helping them they just let them do their own thing.

    I have always admired the professionalism of Australian authorities. During my four years of living in Australia, I never encountered any issues with policing or rude immigration officers. Australia is truly one of the friendliest countries to visit.

      True! My friends who came to USA in middle school and lived in Chinatown speaking Chinese never sounds like him. Only people who grew up in China and barely finished school speak like him.       Well it can easily happen. You can be born in Australia then be raised abroad and come back and still be a citizen. It's not rocket science. As soon as you are born in Australia you have Australian citizenship for life, even if you can't speak a lick of English.

      @@kayflip2233this is incorrect, Australian's citizenship law goes by the jus sanguinis concept, which meas that nationality is acquired by descent, just being born in Australia doesn't grant you citizenship, at least one of your parents has to be either an Australian citizen or a permanent resident for the citizenship to be granted.

    A few decades ago a young lady from Nashville was the first Viet-American to win the national spelling bee, when she opened her mouth the most stereotypical Tennessee accent you can imagine flowed out. My brain locked for a second because my eyes and ears couldn't reconcile. Kids pick up the accent of their new language very quickly.

    I feel this boarder officer! I used to work for the Government of a SEA country and omg... it was crazy how tf (and mostly) mainland chinese obtained birth certificates/passports (always newly issued) from the country. I even interviewed one and it was impossible, he didn't speak the country's language nor English. That's, of course, a red flag!

      Many, many people are born in Sweden to MENA parents and speak with such thick accents as adults that normal Swedish people can hardly understand them. I’m not defending the Chinese guy, but sadly in Sweden you don’t need to speak the language or pass any tests to become a citizen…

      In reality though they'll never be granted another visa. Especially if from developing countries as even tourist visas are impossible to get if one has an immigration "black mark".
      I have family from UK that overstayed and worked illegitimately 30 years ago.
      Their most recent application for a visit was rejected in 2019.

      In most cases yes. 99% of the time yes. But if you grow up in a ethnic enclave going to ethnic school just hanging out with your ethnic group speaking ethnic language your whole life. Then you can have a foreign accent but not quite. Not even half as severe as this guy.
