Fish, dried meats, or specialty spices often fall into this category, as these items may be considered valuable or irreplaceable gifts. While customs forms are provided in multiple languages, travelers from countries with less rigorous biosecurity measures may not fully grasp the rationale behind Australia’s strict policies. Misunderstanding of "Personal Use": Some travelers believe that if they bring food items for personal use rather than for resale, these items do not need to be declared. However, Australia’s customs laws apply equally to all high-risk items, whether intended for personal or commercial use. This misunderstanding is particularly common with homemade or packaged foods, as travelers may view these items as harmless. Most likely this women's illegally modified passport was stolen/lost/illegally sold and with the place of birth being listed as South Korea. That would have set off some serious red flags. It's easy enough to explain your case. But yeah there are some interesting cases. I had a coworker from Macau who needed to renew her Portuguese passport. Back then, Macau was considered an overseas territory where everyone had full Portuguese citizenship (which wasn't lost after the 1999 handover to China for Portuguese citizens born in Macau before 1982). She knew little Portuguese, although she was fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English (having graduated from high school and college in the United States). She didn't know how to contact the closest consulate so I helped her out with my amazing research skills (phone book) and I heard her on the phone. Apparently the first thing that happened when she mentioned (in English) that she needed her passport renewed was that they tried to speak to her in Portuguese.
I have dual citizenship (and 2 passports of course) because of my parents, but I don't speak my dad's native language. You can just imagine the looks I get whenever I fly to his home country using that passport.

Everyone arriving in Australia with either food or products that can harm our eco system should be fined 20.000 dollars and immediately lose their visa . Absolutely NO foods should be allowed to take into Australia, no matter what it is. Easiest way, no more excuses from people saying that they didnt read the entry form. Simple Law: NO FOODS and NO goods which contain things such as feathers and untreated woods. Harsh, yes, but the only way.
Probably the best idea . Unlike in the US/UK you just can’t be lax about what’s brought in . That’s why there’s no customs fast lanes in those types of places. The fines should be much higher and the policies much stricter, Australia ain’t the UK and it ain’t USA they need to be more serious.

It is usually borne by the airline. Although they are not experts in document examination, the airlines are responsible for their passengers having the correct documents for entry. Okay the sheer stupidity of the statement "she has a Korean passport but she can't communicate in Korean." Where someone is from, where they have a passport from, does NOT dictate the language they can speak. My god. I don't understand this level of ignorance. Plenty of people all over the world are raised in a place and can't speak that language. There are PLENTY of people in the United States that have US passports but can't speak more English than what they needed to get by for the citizenship tests. Lord.
But they can still speak and understand some and we're likely not born in USA. This woman didn't appear to understand a single word and sorry but that's impossible if u been raised in a country u will know some of the language.
The immigration officers are looking for indicators that a person isn't who they say they are: not speaking the language of the country whose passport you have is a valid reason to further investigate: in this case, yes it turned out that she's not Korean, which was a problem because she was asking for entry as a Korean tourist. She's not a Korean tourist, the immigration officer spotted it, that's her job.
You don't understand " this level of ignorance ". Reading your posted comment my surmises are the level of your understanding shouldn't be a gauge for comprehension. Not a word is spoken or understood in the language of a one offical language Nation by one of that Country's Citizens. Korean is a language isolate, meaning it has nothing in common with any other language in the World. No commonality with any previous language ever known to this World or any current language. What are the odds a passport holder of South Korea didn't speak one word or understand one word of their one and only National Language? Your " sheer stupidity of the statement " is perhaps the most ironic posting in the history of RUclips. WOW.

Why Travelers Bring Food from Their Home Countries
Cultural and Culinary Significance: For many people, food is central to cultural identity. Travelers from diverse backgrounds may bring foods that have personal or cultural significance, such as traditional herbs, spices, homemade delicacies, or meats, particularly when visiting family or friends in Australia. This is especially common among travelers from countries in Asia, the Middle East, and the Pacific Islands, where food items like fish, cured meats, or specific fruits are integral to cultural traditions and family gatherings.
Food as a Gift: In many cultures, food is viewed as a meaningful and respectful gift. A traveler may bring regional delicacies as a gesture of goodwill, intending to share a taste of their homeland with loved ones or to mark special occasions. Fish, dried meats, or specialty spices often fall into this category, as these items may be considered valuable or irreplaceable gifts.
Perceived Quality or Familiarity: People may believe that food from their home country is fresher, safer, or more authentic than similar items available in Australia. For instance, a traveler might prefer the taste or texture of a particular type of fish or spice they know well, even if Australia offers alternatives. This sense of familiarity can make travelers feel inclined to bring comfort items from home, not realizing the biosecurity risks they pose.
Cost Considerations: Certain delicacies or specialty items may be more affordable in a traveler’s home country. This is especially true for those visiting from countries where specific foods are abundant or where certain delicacies are part of their regular diet. For some, the cost savings of bringing these items outweighs the perceived risk.
---
Reasons Travelers May Fail to Declare Food Items
Lack of Awareness of Biosecurity Risks: In some regions, travelers may be less aware of the strict biosecurity risks posed by bringing food into Australia. For example, they may not know that a simple piece of fruit could carry insects or fungi that could harm Australia’s crops.
Fear of Confiscation or Penalties: Some travelers may not declare items out of concern that customs will confiscate their food. This fear can lead to deliberate non-declaration, as people try to sneak through items they consider harmless or low-risk.
Language and Knowledge Barriers: Although Australia provides customs declaration forms in multiple languages, some travelers may still struggle to understand the terminology or scope of restrictions. Terms like “biosecurity” or “animal products” may seem vague or overly broad, leading travelers to assume that only certain items are prohibited when, in fact, they need to declare any potentially restricted goods.
Stricker fines should be implemented for travelers using falsified travel documents.

Last time I saw unusual reason for entering AU illegally was an South Korean women want to left her country due to high psychology pressures there (if u learned about S Korean culture u might know). She cry at the end of interview, and she also quite on rage towards officer initially.
They know what they are doing. No entry...
She has a Taiwanese accent
いや、優し過ぎるでしょ😂
アメリカの高圧威圧態度に比べたらめちゃくちゃ天使w
Japanese customs and immigration are also getting pretty strict as compared to before. One of the only countries I know of that do an immigration check on departing passengers as well as arrivals to make sure they have a valid entry stamp and had not entered Japan illegally in the first place.
The thing about the US is that if your low risk it’s really easy to deal with them (I mean global entry lets you bypass all of thier bs ) . But if you’re not or you mess up they are absolutely nasty even to citizens .
Try sign language?
I can’t help but be reminded of men in black 😂
17:50 $20K Chinese dollars? ? Real dollars for fake dollars? I’d she obtained it in HK , the they should really say $20,000HKD . Main land China’s currency is the Yuan, not dollar.
Those were very masculine shoes Toni was wearing...🤣🤣🤣
What's wrong with Converse shoes??
Not rally there are lots in Oz and NZ who are citizens but dont understand English
That lady is from China.
the woman is very silly
Why they cover her face?
The food brought in by the middle-aged Lebanese couple: Why do their travel agents not assist them in understanding the damage those plants, bugs, leaves, seeds can do? Don’t they have guideline documents in Arab countries? Our customs people are wonderful. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! 💕
Harsh, yes, but the only way.
you know that this is old right. the fine is now in the four figures.
@@lt5466 No, didnt know , thank you for the update:) Still, 400 dollars is not enough, must be much more to stop people from bringing in foods.
Probably the best idea . Unlike in the US/UK you just can’t be lax about what’s brought in . That’s why there’s no customs fast lanes in those types of places. The fines should be much higher and the policies much stricter, Australia ain’t the UK and it ain’t USA they need to be more serious.
Does anyone here speak Mandarin as first language?
The fake passport woman's Mandarin accent sounds like Indonesian/ Malaysian Mandarin.
Tony needs a haircut.
While i do understand that the girl had a fake passport & ID. This is something hard to deal with as she may have been forced to go away. Many Chinese people try to leave due to how some people are treated.
Petra can always find a mole
Her accent is definitely not from China, more like Taiwan or South East Asia
Oh, really, have you studied all the languages used in China to make this claim?
@@sarali5135 I could pick out an American accent from anywhere in the country despite not living everywhere in America. People from different parts of the country move around, or are on TV or in movies. I would think it would be odd if you couldn’t tell if someone had an accent from your country.
lol I can tell she's def not from Taiwan
Her accent seems to indicate she’s from the fujian province. Ppl from that area are notorious for trying to smuggle into counties by any means necessary.
china
Ugh.....
Who pays for the flight home..??
It is usually borne by the airline. Although they are not experts in document examination, the airlines are responsible for their passengers having the correct documents for entry.
There are agreements between airlines and countries, and airlines can be penalised for bringing passengers without legal documents.
The airline probably wasn't fined because she had documents that looked OK at first glance but the airline would need to find her a seat back to China where the authorities would take her into custody.
Usually the airline , that’s why airlines often inspect your documents pre-flight to make sure they won’t have to waste money on deportation .

After watching a few of these Australian customs videos, Ive decided to never visit. I feel sorry for Australians living under these draconian authoritarians.
Oh this video is a huge dramatization. Assuming you’re a US or UK resident , you should see how insanely draconian the border patrol here is if you mess up . All of the people in these videos acted Sus and were referred to secondary inspection . The key ? Declare everything and dont act strange .

Uhm….the passenger wasn’t speaking…at all
That Snow White's 7 dwarfs t-shirt alone was a dead giveaway...
WOW.
If she went to Mexico she would be in the USA by now
Omg no she wouldn’t . American border patrol is like 100x nastier . I’m a citizen and I fear them .
Korean can’t speak Korean.????😂😂😂😂😂
Perhaps you were unable to follow?
She is Chinese.
