I remember an evening when my mother took us children to a syrup boil. They had harvested the sugar cane, and that night the great fires beneath the boiling pots glowed in the field under the stars. We ate BBQ and chewed cane, and when it was done, there were jars of syrup to take home. I would be hard pressed to find a syrup boil today, and I haven't been able to find cane syrup in the grocery store. It's all corn syrup now. But I'll never forget how the cane tasted or how that syrup smelled on a chilly night in autumn.
Oh my. How sweet it is.!!! Brilliant adding ginger & lemon. Enjoying sweet memories. Wonderful. And Lily is enjoying her sweet treat. Thanks for the lesson👍💥
A small tip to you. Just use 2 inches of sugarcane in seedling tray and get a seedling. Plant in soil and wait for it to grow about 1.5 feet. Then cut the seedling 6 -8 inches above the ground. This will allow side shoots to grow. You will get atleast 6 sugarcane from one seedling instead of just one. When one bush grows above 3 feet, tie them together with its leaves. It helps them to stay straight. You can experiment this on just couple of seedling. Hope you would try this one. By the way, scrape the skin with a sickle before making juice.
Haven’t thought about sugarcane in 50 years. When we were kids we’d stop in east Texas & throughout the south in the summer & get a stalk. Can’t wait for the festival.
oh sir its good that I have seen your youtube channel. its perfect timing. I'd also like to have time to plant sugarcane.. thanks to God. ur such an inspiration to me to grow more and dream more. do you also have videos on how to grow peaches and pomegranates. do dates also can bear fruit in your country sir
Nice! I have that exact same veriety of cane its tougher than the other varieties its hard to cut but it juices the best. Im planting single nodes this year about how far apart would you plant single nodes in ground?
You can grow a hardier alternative to sugarcane called 'Miscane.' It's a crossbreed between sugarcane and the grass known as Miscanthus. I bought 10 seeds 'labelled' as sugarcane earlier this year. Despite warnings that cane will not grow if the temperature falls below 14 degrees Celsius (57 Fahrenheit), my plants have continued to grow from its first year's sowing. Indeed, one of them is over 6ft and has a flower. 3 months from seed to flower, and I keep them in pots. So, I'm thinking I have a 'Miscane' here. Oh, and I live in Scotland. Yes, 'that' Scotland. The colder, wetter, blustery one across the Atlantic. I plan to cut my canes down before the first frost and store the rootstocks indoors throughout the winter. Should have enough windowsills. So if you're still in Illinois and have enough room to keep a few plants indoors away from the cold, I would invest in a few seeds (you do not need many. I had 100% germination from 10 seeds).
I’m in zone 9 I planted my sugarcane on sept 28 there up young plants it’s nov2 I’m in 9a I have young plants 10 inches tall should I winterize making sure dirt is pulled up on the stem and I planted to cover around it with pine straw will they be ok for the winter time????
I live in zone 7. We have a long growing season, but cold in winter. How long does it take to grow big enough to harvest? If I planted in spring, would it be ready to harvest by September?
I wonder if my teeth are still strong to strip this and chew? love the juice.. There was one we called Sri Devi' it was juicy . It's burnt before harvesting in large scale in some countries.
Love ❤️ this video & the others which I’ve seen Jag ji. Interesting, educational & good commentary. Thank you 🙏 so much for all your hard work, contributions & intelligence for producing so much food to feed our great 👍 nation. God will shower his blessings upon you. I’ve subscribe to your channel.
Hi bro i start to grown sugarcane in my backyard is like 1 feet big do i need any fertilizer to put on it or any good recomendation to more healthy sugarcane pls reply me thx
I normally replant as I cut. Maybe a new row, we just take the bottom from where it's cut 2-3 sections with the eyes exposed and lay it in and cover. I've also started by throwing cut sections with the eyes exposed in water in a container. By laying it in with the 3 eyes that's 3 new shoots it regrows as older stalks die off. Now, do you cook it off into syrup?
