Eating Lady Finger regularly can help control cholesterol levels and keep the heart-healthy. Okra has been found to have lectin, a type of protein that prevents human cancer cells' growth. It contains Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Zinc, which can help in improving eye health. Thanks for uploading this video. Very good info.
@@suryalatha2551 as far as I can tell, they like hot, and keep them watered. I’m in Florida and we planted around September. I’m betting late spring will be good too. Like I said, we just started this year, so I’m still in the experimental phase of learning.
Lilly is so adorable as a pup and enjoy seeing her in the newer videos. She is still adorable as ever. Thank you Jag for all the videos that you make for newbies, experienced and those who just need a refresher course.
My family loves okra and last year was my first time growing it. I planted 12. Just wow. I still have massive amounts of frozen okra. This year i am only planting 4.
I live in Texas and okra is taylor made for Texas climate. There are a few okra varieties that you can allow the pods to grow up to 16 inches and they will still be tender (Louisiana Long Pod) but the Clemson Spinless is the best tasting in my opinion.
Out of all the plants I grow I must say I enjoy growing the okra plant. As you stated and I agree it does not attract many insects. This year I planted my okra in a raised garden bed. The spacing was not the best, but being close together the leaves of the okra create a very nice shade and I have noticed I do not have to water the plants as much like I did in years past. I live in Texas so that is a huge plus for my okra plants.
Please look into alfalfa hay mulching. One of the benefits is that, this will greatly reduce the watering. And it needs to be deep mulching, with 2 or 3 inches I believe.
Thank you very much for the information! Now I can finally add okra to my vegetable collection this summer. Okra, along with asparagus, ranks first in my list of favorite veggies.
Fabulous video! Okra is my absolute favorite vegetable. Thank you for making me feel empowered to grow such an easy crop! Your kindness just radiates, I appreciate you sharing your time and expertise :)
Thanks! Great information on Okra! I put it in my raised bed. The heat in So. Alabama is perfect. It’s really starting to take off and it’s starting to rain everyday. Just added my homemade compost…Didn’t realize they love to be heavily fertilized.. Your Lilly is precious!
I live in northern Italy at 740 m and planted some ochra seeds yesterday and then your video popped up! It isn't a very common vegetable here, but I am very curious to taste ochra. Thank you for these precious tips, hoping to be able to harvest in a few months! PS Lilly is a beauty!
Central Arkansas, we grow lots of okra. Mostly heirloom burgundy, and Clemson spineless. We eat it raw, primarily. Most our pods we pick are between 4inches to 10 inches, in the case we for got a few for a day or 2 too long. Even the big ones are generally not stringy as long as we have kept the plants well watered. You are so right, they do LOVE water, however are quite adaptable. Our stalks are like treetrunks by the end of the season and I utilize them either Shredded and out back into the garden or I dry them and make small border fences with them. Thank you for your videos. Have a blessed, bountiful season!
Thanks for the info. I just put some seeds to germinate 3 days ago, to sprout just saw a couple with slight growth. However, I’m glad I watched your video. You said that you have give it some time to sprout. I feel much better now. God bless you..
Ive been gardening veggies for 3yrs now & i see that ive been missing out on Okra !! Im glad you shared this video. I had no clue how big okra can get 😯 . Im so excited for my new plant babies to grow 😄🪴
I tried growing okra in the mountains of Costa Rica and it wasn't happy. A friend at the beach in the Pacific side took my seeds and they grew 6 or 7 feet tall and produced enough for everyone who wanted it. My friend gave me a huge basket full when I visited, more than all my plants grew up in the mountains. Now I'm in NC and hope to plant okra tomorrow, even though it's a little late maybe.
First time watching one of your video. Your presentation is really well made. Lot of great closeup shots. Really pleasant atmosphere. And I especially appreciated the depth of information regarding okra - you basically covered everything I wanted to know about, seed to harvest. I am extremely thankful.
Okra does well directly sowed in warm soil. I'm in Zone 6B (Louisville) and direct sow in late May to early June. They sprout and grow quickly, basically into a tree in these parts. By mid-summer, I'll start getting pods galore, and that's just from a few plants.
Very comprehensive video to grow okra and get seeds for the next year. I live in Australia followed the steps in growing from JAG'S video and got the perfect results.
Great tutorial. I love okra and will be planting mine for a June 1 transplant date. I will be using biodegradable pots so I can plant the whole thing without disturbing the roots.

Wow thankyou for sharing, lcan now understand why l've had zero success with growing okra. Been doing all the wrong things. Can't wait to try again! Greetings from South Africa.

I made a raised bed of wood and nails and used a mix of garden soil ,cow manure and cocopeat ..Loved the video and info is very useful..🙏
i am hoping to plant okra this year. first time. i hope to pickle it. i love pickled okra...my seeds are being shipped now. got some clemson spineless, jinge orange, okinawa pink, and red burgundy.
I tore a 2 foot okra plant out of the ground to prioritize the one next to it, and I made sure to protect the roots of the one next to it without worrying about the removed one much. I potted it and all leaves were dying by the next day, but one tiny new leaf grew, and prospered, and now has friends. It was an interesting experiment. Why was the young leaf not bothered as the others died around it? I wonder if this knowledge has any potential

Lectin is bad for health, recently I learned Orkra has high oxalate, which will cause stones.
