The real Donna lied about not knowing about the last 15 years because she knew how upset he felt especially about the Flux, in the last series she knew straight away as Doctor Donna about his forms over the past 15 years. Plus yes the Tardis told him about the fake Donna, it was on the screen on his console.
I didn't watch all of Jodie's seasons what happened with the flux out of curiosity
Basically, the doctor's adoptive mother, the founder of the time lords as we knew them, decided it's time to erase this universe and move on to another, so they created an antimatter-driven event called the flux
Don't know if you spotted it, but if you pause your video at 19:56 (not sure when that is in the episode), you can see that the TARDIS monitor is scanning the bone structure of Donna's arm, that's how the Doctor knew.
yeah i assumed i'd missed something of that nature
Russell & Tennant showed more weight & emotion in one single scene thinking about the flux than Chibnall and Jodie did across three episodes after the event.
This one was way better than The Star Beast, in my opinion
An amazing "two"-hander with some stunning acting, but also how cool is it that RTD made the Doctor's strength (his speed of thought) the worst thing he could have as a weapon? Genius.
I love it!
A very classic episode with a spooky mystery and a cliff hanger ending.
Good Memory! I agree with you they are kind of like the Midnight Entity
They absolutely referred to the Timeless Child and the Flux in this episode.
the fun rewatch bonus for me was when Fake Donna entered the Tardis, the Doctor's screen had an X-ray of her arm on it; he did indeed use the Tardis to double check just in case he was wrong, and it paid off.
alluding to the Timeless child and the Flux was probably the right thing to do here; in a series like this trying to retcon is liable to make a much bigger mess than following through on the moves previous writers made, even if they're stupid moves. By establishing this early that that's still a thing, and having it have actual real character consequences instead of just being unecesary drama, it's possible to build around the hole without needing to go back and fill it in.
The gravity mavity thing is because in the cold open for this episode they ran into sir Isaac newton and interrupted him while he was discovering gravity. He ends up calling it mavity and that’s why Donna keeps calling it that because they accidentally changed time
yeah i thought that's what it was. i was just expecting it to have more impact on the plot of the episode
@@MurkMoviesI think since a lot of folks are diving into DW for the first time with these specials, it’s good to have a casual display of how such a small and seemingly inconsequential encounter can permanently change historical fact. It’s meant to be throwaway, but still show its permanence.
@@sp0ngeb00b7 I hope they go back and change it back; I will get tired of mavity.
Absolutely loved this ep! The little things being off like with mavity feels like a set up for Toymaker meddling with things I cannot wait for next weeks ep! Also Wilf!!!!
15:15 - because the script called for it. 😂
The ending id definitely toymaker
It’s a 10 out of 10 from me. Very creepy and David Tennant and Catherine Tate shone in both roles they played.
He's angry because of the trauma from flux, and everything else I assume
I gotta say the flux and where he's from is not something you can just ignore. given the magnitude of it, it needs to be addressed. I trust Davies can make it a good part of the show in time we just have to see where it goes like all his plots before love this ep though from start to finish it had me hooked without the jarring butt in from star beast.
yeah im sure something good can be written in relation to the impact of the flux on the doctor. i just was reminded of the chibnall era so my reaction was kinda negative lmao
What butt in from the star beast?
the extremely on the noze identity stuff like they handled it great at first but then decided to take it to 11 so much it pulls you out of the story. im all for trans representation but that was too far for it to even make sense@@ennayanne
also i had an extra thought the sonic hasn't been overpowered for the specials in particular. the tardis can rebuild itself so it just a switch to do so in that case. 12 made a 3d hologram with the scorvox blitzer, and resonating concrete has been hinted at before, the only new thing is the hard light shield and honestly given how long it takes to make even that has its limits. completely agree that taking it away made this ep 10 times better though!@@MurkMovies
No I disagree RTD should just not erase the Timeless Child arc but ignore it and just not mention it so they keep with the tradition that the Doctor is a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey because it's pissing on and disrespecting Terence Dicks work this is not the RTD from 2005 he is wrecking Dr. Who worse than Chibnall.
people will call the sonic op any time it does something that isn't opening a door... the TARDIS literally has the ability to regenerate as the doctor said in that very scene, so idk how that's the sonic being op lol
I really enjoyed this one. If last week was a 7/10, then this was an 8.5/10. And yes, it was definitely referencing The Timeless Child, and that's going to serve as a Time War style motivation for Ncuti's Doctor. Give RTD a season to weave in some depth to it, and it'll be like lore that's always been there. Chib's idea was good, but you need a really good writer to deliver it.
I just fundamentally don't like the timeless child as a world building detail but hopefully Russell can flesh it out and add some weight to it to make it less egregious in my eyes
@@MurkMovies I think he will. I think he'll bed it in and we'll focus more on what not knowing his past does to a person rather than the lore itself.
I wonder if the no-things will end up being the Eternals from the 1980s episode ENLIGHTENMENT.
I think the whispering in the theme tune is part of next weeks episode!
Donna's death was hinted at first in 2008, second in 2023, and third?? Hint hint, we might be needing tissues for the third and final special, as I was told there is a death in it. A significant death. Whether this source is good, we wait and see. But third time unlucky for Donna maybe?
So....DOES Donna remember what happened in the past 15 years? I have not seen the episode, just the reaction, and I am still uncertain. In the last special, they made a point of a male-presenting Timelord, and if he was still female, and so on. How did they know? Do you know if it was mentioned or discussed at all? In the reactions I have seen so far, it seemed like Donna and Rose knew in the last special, and in this one, Donna did not know anything, but the long-armed one did. Can someone clarify this for me, please?
ok as the Doctor donna she had the metacrisis energy to keep up with the mass of memories and im guessing some psychic timelord thing let her tap into everything that happened. without it it becomes a jumbled mess...or shes lying but i dont think so given the no-things really did have "outer space brains"
