I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.
You are a very good River fisherman this should be in your wheelhouse. Have a good time. Your swim jig could be a player in this one.
Thanks
I dont have any pizza recommendations, but the old colony smokehouse is my favorite place to eat there
Awesome
It's been years since I fished the Chowan. I fished several Red Man and BFL tournaments there. Loaded with cypress trees and cotton mouth water moccasins. Bass fishing techniques have changed drastically since I fished there. I kept it simple back then. I liked some of the other rivers in Abermarle Sound. Be safe and good fishing to you.
Fished there when I was younger and my dad's buddy caught a good bag of fish flipping the pads on the river.
Thanks!
it’s pronounced Cho-Wan like saying Choke and Dawn.
I’ve never fished it but I’ve got thousands of Hours on The Roanoke from Plymouth to Williamston. I live 30 minutes away , it’s my favorite fishery.
I fish for Large mouth Crappie Stripers and American Shad.
Crank baits and swim baits you’ll thank me later .
I can tell you the local fishing guides on the Chowan catch 8-10 pounders all day long with Top water Frogs.
i’ll I’m you what I use on the Roanoke.
Good luck and forget Pizza try Easyern BBQ. 😁
Thanks
Give some of Berkley flat tail gulps a try if you haven't. They look really nice in the water. Thanks Matt
Will do
Very insightful hearing your thought process going to a new body of water, especially the "whys." I would imagine articulating them has to help your thought process. Fish well, good luck!
Yes it does
Too water and buzzbait …. Give them HELL Never noticed your a Lefty .. Good Luck
I use both right and left
Hit the like button for the man 🙏. Please
Thanks!
The wind controls the tide on the Chowan, plenty of pads and plenty of blue shelled crabs. Caution if you see a tree on the bank with broken off baits hanging from it, there's a good reason why they are still there. Yes big and ugly snakes and mudfish too, have fun !
Haha i found that out
Wish you the best. I've personally never heard of this place. Hybrid hunter is an amazing grass llure
It really is!
Enjoy Eastern NC! Weather and fishing have been killer!
Yep
Tide is caused by water coming in and out of an inlet to the ocean. There is only 1 inlet on the northern obx which is oregon inlet. Not enough water can pass thru to affect the albemarle basin. Check out the smokehouse while you are in town.
Gotcha
@@MattStefanFishing rally hat today. Pulling for ya. Such a shame becker is such a sandbagger.
There isn't a tide to speak of I think because the outer banks cuts it off from the ocean. They definitely gonna smash a frog.
Thanks
I hate snakes also, if you find them that dropshot around the cypress trees could be money.
Yep
If it’s not too late, throw the old terrain. 1,000,000% will get smoked!
Yep
That river is known for possible wind and tidal water. Or the cypress trees or pads will factor in. Flipping jigs/lizards around trees, Texas rigged worms, a finesse style worm/stick worm, prop baits, buzzbaits spinnerbaits, or a frog. I think old school lures will do better than anything else.
Thanks!
Hey Matt, great info. FYI got my PB again on a Core lure. The Ozark rig. 6.2 largemouth. Not huge by most standards, but big for my home lake of Boone. Also, want to know if you guys are thinking of doing a more finesse style hook or more nikko style on the wacky rig. I've tried weighting worms nikko style with it and it does work. But a longer thinner hook would be perfect. Also, the wacky rig spins some so hook is sometimes on bottom of rig when bite comes and it's easier for bass to shake off. I was wondering if you guys though about a double sided hook setup? Meaning hook out of both sides above wire holder. I think that would be ok under rules, but you're expert. Thanks again for your vedios. You and Jonny are always on cutting edge. Tim
Big one!!! Working on one
Thanks Matt. FYI for whatever it's worth, I started using a bait keeper spring on the Ozark. It holds good and keeps me from tearing up the baits while sliding over the weighted hook. Anyway, love the Ozark rig. I believe it is going to explode on the tournament trail because it presents differently and is so effective in cover. Good luck this week! Tim
I wouldn't know but I would not fish those lures. I would start with a true burner that is fastest.
Thanks!
How many people yelled jack hammer at the phone? haha 🙋🏽♂️
Haha
Good Luck Matt! Hope you have a good time and do well!
Thanks
Good luck Matt! Bring home that trophy!
Gonna try
Matt. You will do great!! Enjoy and dominate!!
Thanks
It's not tidal, but the wind can change water level
Yep
Look forward to seeing you pick apart some waters in the home state. Noone has been there, I think that suits your style.
If I ride that far I always continue on to the salt 🤷🏼♂️, I may be missing out.
Sounds good!
Floating worms are great in the rivers in n.c and a Rico
Awesome
🍺Jack Hammer🤠👍.
Yep
Thanks.
"...I'm drawing a blank. What is the main one..."
That was funny.

Top waters will shine.
Didn’t for me
Old school hog snatching... very exciting for you ... Matt ... on the Chowan... you'll do well... alittle deeper water adjacent to spawning areas and some Fighting Frogs from Big Bite Baits..😊
