43mm is a "no-way" focal length for me, no matter how good that lens may be and the theory behind it. (It's kind of "in the middle of nowhere", like 50mm.) I am a 24mm to 28mm guy, especially when nowadays you can crop images even with in-camera settings and get equivalent "teles" (bigger focal length simulations) without loss of quality with all current super high Mp full frame sensors, while you can't the other way around: getting wider field of view (smaller focal length simulations) with bigger focal length lenses. By the way, I have plenty of classic manual cameras + lenses and, as far as my eyes have always told me, the real focus length of human vision is 55mm (in 35mm film format = full frame digital format) and not 50mm (which is slightly smaller in comparison), that's why many manufacturers made that exact focal length lenses instead of (or in addition to) 50mm ones.

It's all good. I love my 28mm Q3. I was just lucky to get it. I won't be upgrading. Not saying the 43mm isn't great. It is. Everything Leica does is wonderful. But $6800 investment to normal Focal length would be for a professional. Great video. Always.
Why was there no side by side comparison or did I miss it? I mean I can always take my 24-70 set it at 28 and 43 but it seems like a missed opportunity in an actual comparison vid no?
Why does the back screen on the 43 look clearer, brighter and more colourful than that on the 28, while they are sitting on your desk, both looking at the same view? Is that a lens quality thing, or is it just a field of view thing?
No idea, will look at the two back screens again and see what's going on. Maybe its just some distortion from the filming camera I used for the YT video?

Hi Math. Good to see a Leica video again. Second video Q3 43 for me to watch 😂 I always wanted a Q with a 50mm cron but I will settle for the 43 mm. Have you seen the mtf chart of this lens 🎉 It's on par with the SL 50mm APO 😮 Going to my camera shop tomorrow to talk about it and maybe book one. Thanks for sharing Can you try to load your 28mm profiles into the 43 😮😊
Thanks RS, I already commented on your reply to one of the other comments. I think its a great new Q3 so if you can get one early on I am sure you will like it 😊 On the profiles, I have to find out, interesting question!
I actually mention the weight of both cameras in the video. I had only initial data for my pre-production Q3 43 unit but here is what Leica published by now: Leica Q3 43 has approx. 772g / 688g (with / without battery) and the Leica Q3 28 has approx. 743g / 658g (with / without battery). Hope that helps 😊
Ouch, my bank account... 😅 Maybe they should make an APO Summicron 43mm f2.0 for the SL, I'm always switching between 35 and 50mm... Leica? are you listening? Great video as usual, thanks a lot!

The video is quite good. The quality of the Leica Q3 is at a very high level. The resolution is also of good quality. But the frame rate is absolutely disastrous. 15fps without continuous shooting is completely useless. I don't understand it at all. Accordingly, I understand that this old lens is not capable of faster focusing. Which is a real shame. And the eye focus quality is also absolutely dismal. It's a real shame that they already offer such options. It's pointless to have 8k video if the camera can't even focus properly... :-)
Ok you actually got soe stuff mixed up. Your FOV is actually much wider than 40mm or even 26mm. But on fullframe format a roughly 43mm lens would give you the perspective (not the fov) of the human eye.
Excellent as always. Thank you! Can I ask a stupid Q as a very interested non leica shooter. Why make the 43mm an APO and 28mm a Lux? Wld it have made more sense to reverse this if the choice was available given the likely use of both lenses? I am sure both are amazing. Will anyone buy both Qs for interchangeable lenses😱.
It makes sense because they tried to give the 28mm lens as much ability as possible for subject-background separation. Personally I don't shoot at apertures that wide. But that's the rationale. The 43mm has much shallower focus than the 28mm. Ideally the 28mm should have been a Noctilux, if you like that kind of shooting.
The 28mm Summilux allows for a widest aperture of f/1.7 whereas Apo-Summicrons (as explained in the video) do not allow for a wider aperture than f/2.0 in all three systems: Q, M and SL.
It is HIGHLY annoying that the Q3 only displays frames when “changing” focal length instead of zooming to the equivalent focal length in both the EVF and the screen.
Exactly. The SL design is NOT what you want because it is designed for big voluminous lenses. We want compact high res lenses, so it’s a trade-off. With higher volume lenses you can squeeze more performance but it doesn’t make for a good travel camera. Peter Karbe was quite clear on that. Frankly the M camera design is outdated without a proper autofocus…
Hard to believe that such a camera will see the light of the day 😂 But hope dies last. I personally think this is it in Q-universe, 28mm and 43mm, plus various special limited editions but with these two focal lengths. Plus a Monochrome Q3 of course, many people wait for this.
Würde ich sofort kaufen, aber wie nicht nur bei Leica bzw. Kameraherstellern allgemein, ist sie wahrscheinlich erst in 9-12 Monaten lieferbar und dann hab ich die Lust daran verloren...
This time it should be different, Leica Stores have more supply than usual from market start on. I have mine already and hear from others that they were lucky too. Maybe worthwhile to try your chances?
If you standard UV filter with the original lens hood, you will not be able to use ‘macro’ mode, ruclips.net/video/QiwsHkNj0sg/видео.htmlsi=3yWE1Fp0MgfhhKyy Leica should offer us with a new lens hood instead of asking us to buy a lens hood
Let’s see if everyone who dismissed the Qs because they didn’t like 28mm, which wasn’t actually 28mm anyway, goes out and buys one now. I suppose that’s what Leica is hoping for.
@@patrickhopkinson1851 Can nothing guarantee, Patrick. But I hear from Leica that supply at market start this time is higher than usual, maybe worthwhile to try your luck 😊
Thanks Rainer, my video is 100% honest to my best knowledge but "initial" in a sense that I will post more on this camera once I spent some weeks with it and have more images at hand. Will come back on the new Q3 43, promise.
@@RS-Amsterdam Haha, good to hear from you my friend 😊 And indeed I could have made the video even shorter but I guess people wanted to see a bit more "flesh on the bones". All the best and have a nice weekend 🎉
Could we also put this “normal” focal length nonsense to bed? Erwin Putts, who may have known a thing or too, was quite clear that 50mm has nothing to do with eyes. These have a horizontal field of view of c.135 and a vertical field of view of 180 degrees. The 50mm lens is 46.5 degrees. It also has nothing to do with size of the film or sensor. The image projected by the lens is circular for a start and Oscar Barnack used Leica’s existing 42mm lens on the original prototypes. The similarity between the chosen focal length (which is a major determinant of magnification) and the diagonal of 35mm film was a coincidence.
I think was is considered “normal” is not so much the actual focal length, but rather the perspective of a 50ish mm lens. No squeezing or compressing compared to how our eyes see.
It would be interesting to see: - if there will be square stack nd filter for the new lens shade. It look like there is a metal interior shelf perfect for stack a couple of magnetic filters so finally we could properly do video switching from foto - how does perform the 43 lens shade on the 28mm how much vignette and especially in video mode where a crop is applied
Thanks for your comment, appreciate your input and thoughts. Guess we will nevertheless continue to call this a „normal“ focal length since this notion is around for a long time 😊

@mathphotographer I would like expert Leica user like you let us know, or consider, that Leica Q3 43 do not seems to consent to set up a filter on the lens if you put on the lens hood. As other RUclipsr pointed out (references ruclips.net/video/qxnreg1vcQk/видео.htmlsi=zqOC42t9jpfP6LpD ), if you want to switch the lens to macro mode, it seems there's not enough space and if you do this the filter touch the lens hood structure before it's completely extended. If this is correct, did they misproject the lens hood due to the marketing thought that the new lens have to have the same overall dimension of Q3 28 lens, or they simply miss the point? My question is: can we buy a product I think is overpriced like Leica products that seems to be "marketing" for half their prize, as it is also for other best manufacturers, and discover that a so called master of photography manufacturer did not understand or consider the simple fact that if somebody give grace to Leica to buy the Q3 43 want to protect the frontal extremely expensive lens with a filter? My answer is no. I'd like to know yours.

Leica should just made the Q3 with interchangeable lens 😂
Or just get an SL3
They do have M11
Never happen. It would kill the interest in almost everything else they sell for all but the most diehard Leica fans.
I'll be waiting for the Q3 75mm ...
It was definitely faster. I ordered it Sunday night at a local store and got called to pick it up next morning.
@@super.saigon I have mine already as well, picked up in the Leica Store in Frankfurt 🥳
Sorry but i had the grip and it wasn't Arca swiss's compatible ,it would have been nice if it was .....
Let me look into that again, thanks for pointing out.
Of course you got it. You get every expensive camera.
Haha not all of them but some 😅
You have to buy an extra lens hood if you want to use it with a filter and Macro mode. 😞
I am using the A7CR with the Tamron 20-40/2.8 .... Same 61 MP Sony sensor, but a much better AF. And of course much cheaper.
Subscribed!!!
Swiss make pretty good chocolate.
Yes they do - Switzerland is famous for watches and chocolate 😊
And trains running on schedule. At least a few decades ago. I heard that might have changed.
Great video 🫡
Thanks! 😃
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 First
Congratulations, Zohra !!!
Maybe they’ll make a Q3 43 007 version ❤…✌️out
That would be fantastic! Peace out 😊
would be great if both set at 75mm and see the different between two camera. Not to compare the clarity bokeh
Hugh Brownstone did exactly that.
Its a different crop but, yes, can be done of course and will be interesting do see images side-by-side.
The hate is exactly the same
1st here 👋😁
😊
If you standard UV filter with the original lens hood, you will not be able to use ‘macro’ mode, ruclips.net/video/QiwsHkNj0sg/видео.htmlsi=3yWE1Fp0MgfhhKyy Leica should offer us with a new lens hood instead of asking us to buy a lens hood

What a RUclips shill. Well done!
Let’s see if everyone who dismissed the Qs because they didn’t like 28mm, which wasn’t actually 28mm anyway, goes out and buys one now. I suppose that’s what Leica is hoping for.
I actually assume that current stock of new Q3 cameras will sell out very quickly.
@@mathphotographer They aren’t easy to get hold of. I was going to p/x my Q2 but will wait a while longer.
@@patrickhopkinson1851 Can nothing guarantee, Patrick. But I hear from Leica that supply at market start this time is higher than usual, maybe worthwhile to try your luck 😊

Leica is fooling people
ein ehrlicher und unabhängiger Test vier Wochen nach Produkt Veröffentlichung wäre mir lieber
Then I suggest you purchase the 43 Q, shoot the test footage, edit and post. That would be great. As Nike says, "Just do it!"
Thanks Rainer, my video is 100% honest to my best knowledge but "initial" in a sense that I will post more on this camera once I spent some weeks with it and have more images at hand. Will come back on the new Q3 43, promise.
28 minutes video to say that both cameras are identical except one is 28mm and the other is 43mm 🙃🧐
I hoped to having provided a bit more insights than that 😂 But thanks for your feedback in any case 😊
Next week the Miami Camera store will spend 2 hours and 30 minutes to say the same 😂😅
@@RS-Amsterdam And I will absolutely tune in for that one! :-)
@@Biosynchro Like two women talking about their stuff hehehehe
It would be interesting to see:
- if there will be square stack nd filter for the new lens shade. It look like there is a metal interior shelf perfect for stack a couple of magnetic filters so finally we could properly do video switching from foto
- how does perform the 43 lens shade on the 28mm how much vignette and especially in video mode where a crop is applied
Thanks for your comment, appreciate your input and thoughts. Guess we will nevertheless continue to call this a „normal“ focal length since this notion is around for a long time 😊
180? Maybe a horse
@@Juz4m Focal lengths don't compress anything. The distance to the subject does the compression.
Can't they get Trump in his diaper?
This is a serious Leica channel. Control yourself please.
@@rumporridge1 my mistake. sorry, thought i was in a different channel.

@@mathphotographer Gnadig Herr, entschuldig mich.Es war mein Fehler. And that is about all the Gymnasium Deutsch that I can remember. I finished Gymnasium in '58, a long time ago. Der Mann ist ein Idiot. Genug. Ich bin hier nur fuer der Kamerakunst. Dankeschoen. You always have good posts, thorough, knowledgeable and succinct. That Q3 42 is almost enough to get me to buy one, but not quite enough.
