      In this video, right at 1:00 in if you pause and zoom in, you can see the banyan tree still standing…now, whether it survives or lasts the day, unknown.

    I just can't believe what I'm seeing. What percentage of the buildings and homes were gone? It's hard to tell from so far away. Thank you for uploading this footage. It's hard to believe that there won't be dozens and dozens of people burned or killed, especially with no cell service, including 911 to call for help. Just devastating!

    So devastating I worked in Lahaina and some of the people in that area work 3-4 jobs in their 80's and whole families live in the house and our culture could learn from these people.❤

      I lived in Lahaina in 1971. There were no jewelry or t shit shops. No Art galleries. It was Morikawas Saimin, Hop Ho market, Yamamoto Store. Plenty Hari Krishna and Hippies , smoothie hut by the Supermarket.
      Yeah places continue to change.I hope the old sites from the 1800's weren't lost.

    This is so sad and painful to watch, but thank you for sharing it. As I pick out the landmarks that are there - and thus see the many ones that aren't there anymore - this at least helps with understanding and knowing the extent of it all.     I was just there in April and this is so heartbreaking. All I can think about is how many people just have nothing right now because of the fire, as well as about the first responders, firefighters, medical staff and what they are dealing with. Prayers for everyone on Maui.

    I pray my sister is safe , she's in long term care maui general Hospital with dementia , and scoliosis. The hospital has never given me any info on her except room # .my piggy lazy niece handles her $ who hasn't worked in 8 yrs .karen souza was a teacher and nanny in West maui for over 30 yrs .any information on her and her care would be greatly appreciated !!!!

    If it were Northern California, the cause would be arson or "professionals" doing a control burn.

    The government needs to train citizens as voluntery fire fights so more people can fight these fires instead of letting them destory their homes, work place & communities.
    back in the 1800-early 1900's this is what citizens did. They ALL stayed and helped put th fires one bucket at a time along side fire fights.
    Something needs to change in Cali, Hawaii, other states/counties that have major brush fires and allow citizens to be trained to fight fires with their neighbors. MANY buildings & homes could be save.
    I dont even see ANY fire fighters or fire trucks in any of the Maui fire videos coming out. So sad.

    Was just there a few months ago. It was so lively and at the same time so full of history. Unfortunately it was also a very dense little town which no doubt made it extra challenging to contain the fire. It's unbelievable that a town can just disappear like this. I hope the fatality numbers are kept real, real low...

    I think the state needs a separate wild land fire fighting teams or groups on each island with their own brush trucks and not be dependent on the city or county fire departments which will stretch the fire departments resources very thin.

    I just flew out of there on the 6th and stayed at a hotel called the outrigger for a whole week starting from the 31st. My heart goes out to those folks in Lahaina. Absolutely devastated this happened. There’s only one main highway in and out. Keep the locals in your prayers. They are the life blood of that island.

    I am thousands of miles away and I am absolutely crushed. In early 98 I moved from FL to Lahaina. I lived on the north end of Front street near the cannery. I have such wonderful memories of that town and the people who became friends. I moved to Puako in early 99 and I saw that even Waikoloa was hit by fires.
    My heart is broken, but I gladly share the pieces with all my ohana inhabitants. 💔

      I would always discuss with my family about visiting somewhere new but my heart always wanted to return to Maui. Lahaina holds so many precious memories for me. I took my mom there for the first time in honor of her 70th birthday. She is no longer with me. She never stopped talking about her amazing time there and how beautiful and kind the people were to her. I am just so heartbroken for all affected by this tragedy. I hope they find strength, comfort, and peace. I’ve been just looking at our many photos in Lahaina all day long. What a tragic loss🥲💔

    My heart is broken and I cry every time I see the photos or videos. I was never able to travel there but my late father lived in Lahaina for years and fell in love with the magic of the island.       I've lived most of my life in Hawaii. The hurricane was far away but the winds come in a circular fashion so the direction can seem unusual. So, maybe it's like an outer ring of the storm? I don't know. ...

      A pilot friend took this video with his iPhone from a moving helicopter with the doors off in the early hours with bad lighting and smoke still in the air while on a flight to assess the damage. Just wanted to share with those that were concerned.

      So far, all aerial footage was shot from different people, using their phones, from this helicopter. The town is still smoldering with a large amount of smoke blowing over the coast. Why don't you fly to Maui and rent a helicopter and show us how to film a smoldering town with a large amount smoke in the air from a helicopter?
