  • Previously, we destroyed the stock Subaru diff. It's the cheap one, so it's not the end of the world. Let's have a look what killed it.

    This video has been superiorly entertaining. Perhaps in the future consider more vlog styled videos because you're fantastically entertaining just in casual conversation

    Honestly impressive the R160 lived that long! Also not sure about UK spec but in the USA at least several Impreza, Forester, and Legacy models came with 4.111 diffs. So good shot it came out of a Legacy or something if you just bought it used. The JDM WRX 4.111 would have been an LSD as well not sure if that one was. 4.444 are the ones people here want and have a hard time finding hah.

    • @vPerformance
      @vPerformance  3 года назад +1

      Yeah it was a LSD 4.111 I bought from a man in a shed. Why do people go for the 4.444? To do even more gear shifts due to short ratios?

      @@vPerformance Oooh hahaha oh no. And yeah because they think shorter gears means more faster more better. 😂 I actually have one of the few cars that came with one in the USA, an automatic Impreza 2.5RS. It's going to get kerploded with lots of torque soon.

    Slap a bit of JB weld on that pinion, and it'll be right as rain!

    How many BHP does that Subaru have? I'm debating whether or not to try and keep the R160 diff with TY856 and 300-320hp. I'm keeping it AWD, but it's gonna see some heavy use from track and rallying.

    • @vPerformance
      @vPerformance  3 года назад

      340 horsepower with the ty754vg7aa gearbox which has lasted really well through a hard life. We've used 2 driveshafts (one each side) and one diff.

      @jokumukamikalie 3 года назад

      @@vPerformance Oh wow, it's honestly a miracle your gearbox isn't already 4 speed or less. I didn't want to take that chance so I'm waiting for my 856 to arrive but I have not been able to find the 180 rear at a reasonable price.

    What axles are you guys using? My friend and I are building rwd Subaru's and my friend keeps breaking his r160 axles. Although his axles that did break were pretty old.

    • @vPerformance
      @vPerformance  3 года назад

      Stock r160 axles. We use about 1 set per year and they're only 15 quid

    • @brianwhaley327
      @brianwhaley327 3 года назад

      @@vPerformance so to keep them from breaking you just try to avoid clutch kicks or are using the least amount mechanical grip possible ie: high pressure in the tires, camber, zero tow in or out on the rear

    • @vPerformance
      @vPerformance  3 года назад

      Rear is zeroed out for camber and tow. We're clutch kicking 350 hp with about 25psi in the rear tyres. We carry a lot of speed while drifting though so the wheels stay rolling most of the time, not often using hydro or clutch kicks.

    • @vPerformance
      @vPerformance  3 года назад

      The rear suspension is very hard though, same with rear anti roll bar. That helps get the car rotating

    • @brianwhaley327
      @brianwhaley327 3 года назад

      @@vPerformance oh ok. So my friend and I are in the process of building rwd Subaru drift cars. One is a GC8 with a full exhaust from the headers to the tail pipe and is otherwise stock other than coil overs. He has the r160 diff and axles and goes through one axle every 20 minutes or so. Its a pretty low car which I think is a massive contribution to him snapping axles as frequently as he does. Any suggestions to keep it alive?
      Also my car is a 2003 Legacy wagon with the EJ20Y and manual trans 285 stock hp. I'm gonna run the PPG rwd conversion spool and a stage two clutch. I'll also be running a set of coil overs and a welded 4.22 diff out of a Subaru Legacy b4. Any suggestions for what else I should get to keep everything together before I get 500hp rear axles?

    I've blown three 4.11 Diffs and about six 4.44s in my RWD subarus. The new owner of my Blue wagon as blown another 2 diffs. a 3.9 and a 4.44. They're all cheap so we dont care haha

    • @vPerformance
      @vPerformance  3 года назад

      Do you know how they fail? Is it the pinion gear every time, or a variety?

    • @kdscustoms6344
      @kdscustoms6344 3 года назад

      @@vPerformance It was pinion everytime for me. It's just too small and weak to handle more than like 200hp directly to it, the AWD takes away most of that stress. I had one last a really long time by putting redline shockproof heavy oil in it and overfilling it slightly but they always die in the end.

    • @vPerformance
      @vPerformance  3 года назад +1

      @@kdscustoms6344 For the next one we're doing the redline shockproof. We're prepping another 4.11 and a 3.54. I do wonder if the 3.54 will last longer because the pinion has 11 teeth instead of 9. We shall see!
