Normal Guy Supercar except that he hit the curb pretty hard and the car might have detected rollover. Maybe if this dude didn't suck at staying more on the track he wouldn't have had the airbad deploy.

You could pull the fuse, but you also want the airbags if you get into a bad crash.

The problem seems to be a too sensitive air bag sensor , I was about to get mad to the fact of one hand driving , then I readed your description , damn, Glad you could handle the situation like a pro , really .
Man, you’re 1 handed driving is about 100x better than my 2 handed driving 😂 glad to see you can still tear it up on the track! Hopefully you don’t tear up any more air bags but you handled it a lot better than I would have

Glad you are OK. The side impact air bags are there for protection from side impacts and roll overs. An angle sensor will set off the air bags when a preset angle of tilt has been reached. My guess is you reached that critical angle when you jumped the curbing. It appears you received an injury from that air bag deployment on your left arm. I understand why you were driving one handed due to your condition but when holding the steering as you do at the 12 O'clock position, if the frontal air bags go off holding the steering wheel in that manner can give you serious wrist/hand injuries by driving your hand back into your face/helmet. They deploy at over 300 kph which is a lot of force. You may want to look at an air bag override for track days to prevent any other injuries. ILR Car Control School

They KILL people.
While they save lives in high speed crashes, when they deploy when it’s not a crash they burn bad. Plus they can blow limbs off. These things deploy in 3 FRAMES flat.

Not the first time that has happened to someone driving a Camaro either...... It must be something with harmonics because GuitarmageddonZL1 had his go off also driving at quite bit faster pace but Airbags are meant to deploy at a certain sustained G force and watching your G meter it was over 1.25G wondering if that had something to do with it and the harmonics of the car.
The triggering is a lot more complex now then just peak g force. Clearly the car decided a roll was likely imminent and dropped the curtain airbags. The systems are designed to almost never fire (better than 5 9s) during "normal" driving and almost always fire if an actual rollover happens. This will lead to the system firing during abnormal driving conditions some times because having both an accurate high speed attitude solution for the vehicle and a good model of what's going to happen in the next fraction of a second is really really hard.
Why did you sit there not knowing what to do? Why the hyper ventilating? The incident was nothing just a bump and the burning feeling of the airbag
On racetracks after a crash or an airbag deployment you sit on the track for safety. Same goes at nascar. Only time you exit is when told to or when there’s a fire.

Was this a defect in the airbag trigger or is the car preemptively protecting the driver from a side impact which is most likely a result of sliding. the airbag does not seem to deflate as quickly. As airbags triggered by impact.
Either way it’s not supposed to happen. It was to prevent large airbag deployment but they should go off when 15 gs are reached.

Actually, what happened was that your airbag sensors thought that you were in a crash, because you hit a bump at high speed. Since the airbag sensor consists of a ball inside a tube, the bump probably caused the ball to knock against the sensor, therefore the control unit thought you were in a crash, and deployed the airbags.
Airbags haven't used the ball since dual-stage airbags became standard, because they don't tell the computer how severe the crash is. Inertial sensing is done with MEMS accelerometers and gyroscopes like your smartphone. Additionally, impact sensors, which are magnets attached to stiff springs are placed on the front and sides. Since only the side airbag deployed here and there was no physical impact, it appears the vehicle detected a rollover, which is triggered by the roll gyro in the restraint computer.
Meatloaf drives faster one-handed than most people two-handed, kudos!
Damn, sorry to see this happen, you could have hit a little less kerb but that's still a valid line. Hope you get her back running soon, and there should be a way to lower the sensitivity for track use.
That was a terrible line unless you're playing a video game. If you're going to cut them so bad you slam the bottom of the car on a chicane, pull the fuse for the airbags first.

when you mess up at the beginning you hold your line even when you know you’re gonna fuck the curb because there’s no way to reasonably fix it at that speed.
obviously he doesn’t intend to dry hump the curb but you gotta do what you gotta do, and fix it next time as the saying goes.

Its the curb lift at those speeds that cause the trigger. If he would of gone slower with same lift height, probably would not of triggered.
is there a way to turn them off. fuse pull? do you just get light or does it put it in limp mode?
Could pull the fuse. The issue then becomes, what if I actually need them on track?
I too came to scold your one-handed driving until I read the comments/description. I can only assume the hard corner impact registered as an actual impact. Gotta be hard as shit driving smooth one handed.

Sorry to see this happen sir... however GM cars have a history of doing this without them really acknowledging it even when it happened to a GM employee. I hope this video goes viral and GM fixes your car for free as well as coming up with a fix so this doesn't happen again.
94tegLSatMSC this happened to a guy in a CTS-V on one of my track days. What really sucked was he was part of the GM driving school group.
This happened to me in my 2007 hummer h3 . gm said they wont pay for it . I'm still fighting.

Yeah Chevy got busted for it, they should only go off when about 10-15 gs are reached. Sounds like a lot, but it is a good threshold. You wouldn’t want airbags going off from slightly bumping ur car on a curb, would you?

As if that's a good excuse for the airbags going off... GTFO. Hopping curbs or putting one or two tires off while taking a fast line is a common occurrence at the track. This is a manufacturer defect plain and simple.
He drove over a corners curbing, bumped half the car in the air sideways... maybe a little sensitive, but you can’t fault GM too bad here.
SocketToMe yes you can, other cars are not doing this. Hopping curbs at racetracks are a common occurrence and these are advertised as a track car.
If GM cannt design a air bag that can handle the car they should have a off road only way to turn them off.

My 2014 silverado is 4x4 and I was on a dirt trail. Was maybe going 10 to 15 mph and my side airbags went off too about 2 years ago. still love this truck. Everything is great on it. But I am PISSED GM won't pay for that.

A full racing harness is always helpful on track. Depending on how things go at the dealer, I may get a racing seat, roll bar and harness.
R Stands For Race have you ever tried a spinner knob, curious if that would help or if it would lead to oversteer.

As another one handed driver, I can state firmly that the spinner knobs are NOT for racing! You lose almost all feel of the road... imagine driving with a game controller! Without feeling the road, you have no idea what the car is doing and bad, bad things happen. ;)

Just saw this video after my airbags went of for hitting a concrete barrier with only the wheels. The airbag burned me pretty much in the same spot they did you
That should not have happened. I believe the airbag system factors the cars speed into its logic for figuring out when to deploy and it might be more sensitive to side impacts at higher speeds. So it could have been a combo of the sharp bump that seemed to toss the car a bit sideways combined with your speed. Still I’d send this video to GM. Hopefully it was fixed at no charge.

I would just pull the airbag fuse when your hot lapping or racing. Then put it back in when on the road. That’s a big meaty car it should keep you safe in that environment without airbags. Public roads in my opinion is where you truly need airbags.
