- Pokemon Red vs Gold fan animation. Continuation of the teaser from 2013. This is about the original Gold Silver and Crystal version, not the Heart Gold/Soul Silver remake. So, Red had an Espeon, the battle was in a cave and all that stuff from the classic game from 1999.

This is a fanvideo I've made about the most memorable pokemon battle (for me =P). I've started this in 2013, because I always wanted to see it beyond the GSC graphics and the turn battle of the games.
Now and study/work is being my life for now, so I didn't have much time to do it as main activity, (and sharing the time to do animations of stories that I am creating for my career) but i've managed to finish this video because of the AWESOME feedback you all have given to me in the first part of this video, even my channel being unkown and very tiny. Thanks and Enjoy!

YOu know, looking back on this iconic fight and remembering how Red's mom mentions she hasn't seen her son in a few years... It makes me wonder if Ethan/Gold (or Kris or Lyra if you play as the female) only went to Mt. Silver to find Red to bring him home. And like if our character tried to convince Red go home to his mom but he refused so we end up battling him to try and make him?
I always thought of this theory since after you beat him for the first time and he “whites out” but when you go back to talk to his mother her dialogue changes after so it seems she knows you went to look for him w.o directly saying it in HGSS

As a 23 year old college student who grew up playing Red, and having a Charizard as his stater, that moment when Red looked down at Charizard and just stared at him like “I know you can do better”, and then the flashbacks? How many moments did I, and anyone else who had charmander as a starter, have to rely on a Charizard to finish a battle like that? Just an instant nostalgia trip for me, maybe it’s just me lol.
I always picked Charizard and Typhlosion in their respective games in many many playthroughs. Therefore, the flashbacks that both trainers get with their last Pokemon that happened to be my starters, always make me feel super nostalgic
As a fellow charizard chooser, I can sympathize. While I did not play Red and Blue, I did play Fire Red.
No matter what, my Charizard was a powerhouse ready to take on any type. Even Rock types fell to Charizard's flamethrower.

I absolutely LOVE how the battle is inconclusive in the end. It's way stronger of an ending than for either of them to be victorious.

Both Pokémon were down. The first to rise was Charizard. Red didn’t “escape the battle”. You can run from battles. He left after winning.

In yellow you can get all the starters
@Sir We Are About to Die they did that because red was the player character and they didn't want to exclude people who chose venasaur or blastoise (the closest thing we have to a canon is origins and generations in origins we see him chose charizard and in generation we see blue has a blastoise) and besides he caught them all anyway
@Sir We Are About to Die his sixth should have been hitmonlee or hitmonchan (perhaps one for each version hitmonchan for gold and hitmonler for silver) and red was the player character for yellow you can tell by the sprite( although the Sprite is slightly different in order to look like ash) but I agree yellow should not count just the original 3 (red,blue,and green)
@Sir We Are About to Die blue also should of had blastoise (although that can be discarded because of it bieng a gym battle and not using his best team)

@@galeforce0113 it's not required for the cave but it is required if you don't want to go insane trying to navigate that place.

I wish we would have received an animation in generations like this. The ending was actually satisfying. Neither of them actually won, but it made Red come back to his senses and want to test his skills in the PWT.
And in Alola. Point is he learned that strength isn't all about pursuing it alone and in isolation.

Red used a max revive. Which makes you pokemon get up
Golds typhloshon got up with nothing used to get him up.
Actually Red won since he and his charizard got back up before Gold and his typhlosion did.

Watching this, I just think of how expressive Red is in Pokémon Masters even without speaking actual dialogue. The ending, having him revisit Pallet Town and his mother, getting the PWT letter... very well done. I wish we got more developed “player characters” aside from Red in the main games, Masters does it a bit, but makes them all somewhat the same. Red stands out immensely, and I wish we got more variation, like how the manga does it... which, again, Gold’s team in this video was based on that manga team, so a bunch of cool attention to detail!

Maybe that’s what he was doing on top of mount silver. He needed to perfect this skill so he went and trained.

@@willwh9228 That's debatable if they tied why did gold stay there and why didn't red. Reds always been the greatest so tieieng is like losing to him but for gold it's like a win. If red won he would finaly realize he is already the best and go home while gold would stay there to try and get better than red.
@@olivergates5843 because gold was knocked down by typhlosion so he had to wait for typhlosion to get up before he can do anything. Red wasn't knocked down by chaizard and we see red go to chaizard and do something to make chaizard get up (probably using a revive) so both of their team fainted which means it a tie red just recovered his team first.
Man, looking back at this, and looking at the finale to Red's story, I can't begin to imagine how awesome this fight will look when the time comes.

I know that Red won this battle, but Gold won the struggle. He showed Red somebody else can be Champion. I think that’s all Red ever wanted, he was clearly one of the strongest trainers of all time. This is beautiful
@Mighty Raccoon Pretty much, it's meant to teach you that even if Gold beats Red in that encounter, it doesn't necessarily mean it's the end of a journey.
Gold winning is meant to represent for Red to get out of that cave and see the world again, and there'll be rematches later, some where Red wins, and some where Gold wins again, the pokemon battles live on.

Not really, since it was his very first battle
It will be interesting looking back at this animation when the current Gold series reaches it's finale. It will be interesting seeing what similarities and differences there are between the battles, not to mention a perfect showing of how the already amazing work with the animations has only grown in these years since.

I love these animations because you don’t depict Red as a silent statue for his entire life, you showed him smile and showed his friends still care about him and how Red does normal stuff other than being silent and beating ass with his Pokémon.

8:05 that shot of the PWT letter means so much. I see this entire animation as canon, and Red being beat by Gold and letting him move on to other things in the world is why Red showed up at the PWT and Battle Tree
I gotta say, at first I wasn't too sure what to think of this at first. At first I was thinking "Oh this artwork isn't that great." But later on with all the retro sound effects and original GBC art, my nostalgia went through the roof! I could clearly see the love and dedication that was put into this animation. I took back every negative first glance opinion I thought of and just thought to myself, "This... is a work of art!"

@@blazingexil4003 well this is a nostalgic story during the battle it shows the past hardships that they went through and how strong it made them it told a complete story in under 10 mins with epic battles and great editing, you have to admit this is better than most episodes of the anime.

The mysterious music, the way the cave went from dark to light as Gold approaches Red, the recollection of all the gym leaders and trainers/rivals beaten, the sight of Red as the music gets more epic, the turn around, Gold's nervous approach up the stairs with the pokéball at the ready, the drop of sweat dripping down Gold's face and finally the way Red nonchalantly threw his ponytail made me watch this like a fucking movie! Awesome job!!!
Plus I really like how Gold seen Suicune. Definitely looked legendary. If Pokémon were real I don't know if I'd have the balls to stand in front of a legendary

You're really talented artist. I loved how much care you took into the details of the fight scenes. I really felt the passion behind both trainers giving it their all.
The fact that the battle ended in a draw was great. I got the feeling that the only reason he went to unova was because of the thrill that he got from battling gold; almost like this was the first time that he was challenged by an equal since he defeated blue.

This Red has the original team from the games, not the anime.
Its not the games its the manga in the games he has a lapras instead of an espeon.
This was utterly perfect and 100% stuck to canon! I loved it, all the references were key and the build and shows of growth were amazing. For once someone gave both red and Gold both their perspective which made it even better.

Aidan ... there is alot wrong in your comment. First of all in the original 2nd gen Red indeed had an Espeon rather than a Lapris, that was just a weird and unnecessary change to Reds team for HG and SS which imo made it weaker due to the duplicate water typing.
Next Ethan catching the Red Gyarados, and especially Lugia, aren't canonical, if they were Red would be throwing around a Mewtwo and the Legendary Birds.
Enuma Elish I'm pretty sure that happens in the manga. Which is based on the games. The games are canon. And since the player in the game storyline encounters Lugia it's canon for Ethan to encounter lugia.
You are certainly taking liberties with canonicity aren't you. First off as well made as the manga is its not official and therefore not canon. Yes it is roughly based around the games but the events inside of the manga are not acknowledged. A more reliable source would be the pokemon specials like Origins.

I like how they both reflect on their journeys at one point it really shows how much more this is other than just a pokèmon battle

Yeah if you deposited a pokemon in the box (holding an item) then save and turn the game off mid save it would make you a copy of the pokemon you put away and the item it held. Master balls for days.

I love all the little things you've done here, like referencing not only the old sprite art but the attack animations too. I enjoyed Sudowoodo's scenes and the final fire starter fight the most. This is largely because, in the old days, that was my chosen counter for Red's Snorlax: a Sudowoodo with Dynamic Punch. And then showing flashbacks of how far both trainer has come to reach their climactic clash. Very nice. I can only see you getting better from here. Keep at it. Oh, speak of keeping at it, are you going in order or is Red's invitation to Unova more than just a fun nod to later games?
